  1. 1. Haloti Ngata DT Oregon 1. Winston Justice OT USC 3. Darnell Bing S USC 4. Ko Simpson S S. Carolina 5. Ryan O'Callaghan OG Cal 5. Omar Jacobs QB Bowling Green 6. Melvin Oliver DL LSU 7. Fred Matua OG USC 7. Andre Hall RB S. Florida Just my 2 cents. Now criticize away.
  2. I don't claim to know more than any gm, but it's not like this is a team without other needs. If we moved down and Whitner was gone, we could've taken a DT or an OL. Someone had to be trying to move up knowing Leinart wasn't likely to be there past the Cardinals.
  3. I don't have a problem with them taking a safety, it actually is a position of need for us. But why not trade down? There had to be mutliple teams trying to move up for Leinart. This seals the deal for me. This team is going nowhere with Marv running the show.
  4. I guess I'm just tired of us drafting guys like Anderson, Sape, Edwards and Bannan later in the draft and hoping they work out. Ngata is the best DT prospect in the draft, and this is our biggest position of need. I will say that although I wouldn't be disappointed if we took Haloti at 8, ideally we could trade down and still get Ngata, Bunkley or Justice as picking these guys at 8 is a bit of a reach.
  5. I get that the Bills want to rotate their D-line, but who exactly are we going to rotate in? Anderson? Sape? I'm not comfortable with either of these guys being key parts of a rotation at DT. Tripplett was a solid pickup, but it's going to take a lot more than that to solve our run defense problems. Also remember that Haloti played every down at Oregon, not just run downs. If he is rotating in and out, his endurance issues become less of a factor.
  6. I agree with cantankerous. The reports are painting this guy as an overweight stiff. If you haven't seen him play much before, of course this is what you will believe. Believe me, Haloti is anything but another Mike Williams. He plays through nagging injuries and contrary to popular belief, he doesn't take plays off. Also, he isn't just a run stuffer. Even though his sack totals aren't that high, he collapses the pocket if left one on one and is great at batting down passes at the line. Nobody should be disappointed if Haloti is our pick.
  7. I think trading down and going for Justice or Ngata if he slips is the best option. However, taking Ngata at 8 would not be a bad pick. As I said in the Ourlads thread, I'm a huge Oregon fan and saw Haloti play pretty much every game he played at UO. First off, Haloti is huge, but he's not a Gilbert Brown that will eat himself out of the league. He pretty much stayed at about 340 to 350 his entire college career. Second, he did tend to take plays off early in his career, but his last season he was much better about playing hard. I think people say he's lazy because he was often double and triple teamed so it was hard for him to get a consistent push on every play, which caused people to think he wasn't going 100%. Finally, there shouldn't be any worries about his knee. His injury came in the 1st quarter of the 1st game of his Soph. season (on a punt no less) but he played his last 2 years without any problems at all. Not saying he can't get hurt again, but he seems to have recovered well from his last injury. Just my two cents since I've seen him play quite a bit.
  8. Hey guys, first time poster out here in Oregon. I'm a huge Oregon fan and saw pretty much every game Haloti played in college. That Ourlads report makes me think they never saw him play. They are wrong on so many points IMHO. G Fred Matua dominated him the whole game. First, one guy did not dominate him in the USC game. They had 2 or 3 guys on him every play, just like every other team he went against. No inside pressure when he's single blocked. Rarely makes a play. Wrong again. He was often unguardable when left one on one. Go watch the Cal game and you'll see what I mean. Takes too many plays off. This was a problem his 1st 2 years at UO. This problem seemed to go away his junior year. Not an impressive pass rusher ( 3 sacks ). Is this really what you need a 340+lb DT to be? Also, 3 sacks isn't too shabby for a supposed run stuffer at the next level. I think Haloti would be a real nice pick for the Bills at 8. He should be a solid starter for years. I could've pointed out more issues I had with Ourlads, but this post is way too long as it is.
