  1. http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/teams/report/BUF/10707761

John Wawrow from the AP writes this stuff, and he's very close with the organization. He's also quite reliable. The Bills, in all likelihood, will take a WR at the #11 slot. I'm not a betting man, but this would seem like a pretty safe one.

I hope not. At #11 you need to go defense. I know they have spent some money there this offseason. They need to reinforce at corner and need depth at D-Line.

  2. Not with these eye-popping FA contracts and escalating caps. Bums getting 5 million. When the owners pick themselves off the floor, look for 8 buck beers, 6 buck weenies, and tix to zoom upwards in '08. Da*n union contracts...

    IMO. :worthy:

Why not? Just have Erie County send Ralph another wellfare check

  3. Why do we need a RB with the 1st pick? It seems that our defense is more important than our offense right now because of the loss of Fletcher and Clements. We signed really good linemen who can guard for our RB's right now. WHY DO PEOPLE WANT A RB WITH THE 12TH PICK WHEN THERE ARE BIGGER THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT ON THE DEFENSE?

What running backs? Williams and Thomas?

Not even the Denver or SD lines can turn those two into a running game. The Bills need to find a starting running back at some point. If not the draft then after the mid summer cuts.

  4. With all this talk about much needed help at DT, everyone seems to be forgetting that we drafted McGargo in the first round last year. Now I am aware that he missed basically all of last year but, why isn't his name being thrown around this offseason as a potential starter?

Not only did he miss most off all last season. He also was injured in his senior season. Since Oct 2005 he has only played in 5 games. Which is two major season ending injuries in 6 games. To expect McCargo to suddenly be healthy is a bit foolish at this point. If he can come back and last more then a few games? Great. Consider it a bonus.

I do have to say one good thing about Youboty. Starting him at corner will help the Bills pathetic run defense. With a shell shocked McGee on one corner and a rookie who wasn't even good enough to dress (Forget playing. He wasn't even good enough to dress.) on the other corner? Teams would be airing it all season against the Bills.

  5. In another thread, apuszczalowski posted signs of a "loony thread". They were:

    I'm just the messenger here.

BTW, Marv was intimately involved in the draft. Polian and Marv worked as team, from my understanding.

What can I say. Apu has had a man crush on me for some time.

    Back to the topic.

Polian worked with some guys named John Butler, AJ Smith and Dwight Adams. You may have heard of them. Marv is not and has never been a personnel guy.

  6. We move up to take another corner because its not Youboty that i am worried about. Last year in camp they were saying that Youbty was turning heads left and right and looked like something special. My concern is with Terrence McGee. He's great at nickel back, but my god he can't cover premier receivers straight up.

How many games did he dress for? Somehow he goes from not good enough to dress to being a starter in the NFL?

  7. Saw a rumor on another board that Bills had offered both 3's to move up from #12 to #2 with Detroit.

This would be a good deal if Millan were desparate enough to get out of #2, but only if the Bills plan was to trade back down. A GM ishis right mind would laugh at this offer.

According to the draft value chart, the Bills would gan a huge advantage in value. With Peterson, Thomas, the QBs or Calvin Johnson on the board they could conceivably upgrade their 2 3's for a couple 2's and a 1st rounder next year.

Anyone think Marv has become a riverboat gambler in his old age?

The Bills are not going to spend the kind of money it would take to sign the #2 overall. There is a better chance they would drop down from #12 to save some money.

  8. Definitely Youbouty showed nothing that guarantees him a opening day start, but it seems to me to ignore the reality of both his performance in his one start (a win with a great D performance against the rag-armed but cagey Pennington) and his holding his own in two other appearances and the big reality in today's NFL, his contract slotted to a 3rd round choice that Youbouty is easily guaranteed a roster spot.

If third round choice at DT Tim Anderson is till hanging around in his third year, then Youbouty is simply flat-out guaranteed a roster spot in his second year.

As far as the Bills holes this fact actually tends the Bills toward something other than a CB. At least we at least have an option (even if you or others do not believe in it) at #2 CB, however, at MLB and RB we simply have Shaud Williams and Digregorio as the best options to start on our depth chart and Crowell and nobody as reasonable options to start.

I agree that we have an interest in getting some more competition at CB, but the even more critical needs at other holes may well drive the likely to start and contribute 1st and 2nd round choices to other needs where we do not even have an option,

Do you advocate filling a need or taking the best player?

I also have to question if the Bills have a #1 corner. McGee got lit up all season. He looked tired and over matched most Sundays. Teams targeted him.

  9. because we picked a first round CB last year. no not whitner... youboty.

all im saying is that besides the fact that he was projected to be a late1st-early2nd pick, IF he had stayed in school and played CB on that Ohio State team he would DEFINITELY be getting more hype than Hall or Revis.

so that being said, i guess we have our first round CB already. now, i also understand that we only have 3 CBs on the roster right now and if we dont ink a FA we will have to draft CB on the first AND second day. but im hoping that K thomas comes back around and we grab one in the 3rd or 4th...

There is no assurances that Youboty will even make the opening day roster. He didn't show anything last season that would guarantee him a spot this season.

The Bills have a lot holes to fill. RB, MLB, DT, CB & a #2 WR to play across Evans are all huge needs for the Bills. The Bills might be better off just going with the best player available. If it's a corner? Pick the corner.

  10. The question wasn't about the run defense, but your ability to still draw breath.

Yes the run defense is horrid still. But I'm not counting out McCargo until after this season, or another injury. We can still address the D in the draft and as far as I know Kawika Mitchell is still available at MLB and should be our main focus right now. Plus you never know who's gonna be looking for work after the June cuts. lets not count out this team in early March.

You failed to read the initial question. Are the Bills "now" a playoff team. Which is what my response was based on. Today March 3rd the Bills defense is not as good as it was at the end of the 2006 season. They have lost some major pieces.

Even if Marv Levy has a great off season he may not be able to fill every Bills need. I would think you agree that the after O-line the run defense is the Bills greatest concern. I'm not sure if the answers to these concerns are even available in free agency or the draft.

  11. Just need a CB, RB, and LB but

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES WE ARE! :thumbsup::wallbash:

    What do you think?

This team was 28th against the run. Tripplet is too small to be effective. McCargo is useless. I thought Fletcher was

also too small but he is no longer a problem.

Picking up the O-lineman is nice. But unless they play both sides and are run stuffers? The will playoffs remain a pipe dream.

  12. Wow! I step away from the board a few days and so many are trying to take my place.

Funny thing is I like the Bills moves so far. They are investing money in the offensive line. It's a

far cry from signing Tuten Reyes.

  13. As much as I despise Marv I can't find any complaints thus far. I will try though.

They seem to be doing a much better job this off season addressing the offensive line. They have lost

a lot thus far in the off season. Replacing Clements will not be easy and hurt the defense which already

has huge holes. They need to plug the middle by finding a run stuffing MLB and by finding a replacement

    for Tripplet.

  14. I don't understand how after the fiasco he just created by dumping Shottenheimer so late, after their replacement already signed on to coach a different teaam, and really has won nothing but a couple good seasons (and nothing in the playoffs) could be a top 3 GM.

Until he got his first SB win as a GM, I wouldn't have put Polian as a top 3 GM, and Polian is about 50x better then Smith.

My top 3 (not really in any particular order)

Patriots GM - Have to give him credit for being frugal with players every year (letting high priced guys walk if they weren't part of the core) and contending every season

Colts GM (Polian) - Every year they are competing for a spot in the SB, Finally he got the appearance and win. This also goes back to his days in Buffalo were he built 4 straight SB teams.

I really can't think of anyone that stands out after them but If I must chose one, probablly the Steelers GM

Honorable mention (and a bit of a head scratcher to some) - The Redskins GM (or should I say accounting office), eveery year they spend Millions and they still are a bad team. But every offseason they have no room against the cap and look like they are going to have to purge the roster, yet every year they somehow wind up with Cap space to sign the big names to huge deals

GM's I can't rate in the top 3 but have had competitive teams

Jerry Jones - Teams are almost always good, but is too meddlesome with the coaching and on field stuff

AJ Smith - After the fiasco with the coaching staff this offseason, and the fact that he has had the luxury of a couple of top 5 picks, its hard not to build a winner

Green Bay GM - The team seems to be in a tailspin because they keep banking on Favre coming back and working things around him. Time to start building for the future

    Worst GMs

Millen - I don't know how this guy can keep his job every year, with him as GM, theres no hope for the future

Arizonas GM - No matter what they do, they just can't win

Texans GM - Its seems so crystal clear to everyone else, build a decent o-line to keep Carr off his @ss and you might have a team that is looking at the playoffs

Miami's GM - Dante over Brees? Even before getting to see the results of last season, anybody could have told them Dante wasn't that great

Cincy's GM - The team is now out of the leagues basement and a contender, but the off field issues of his players have to put him here

Honorable mention (only because he is not a GM right now) - Donahoe, as Bills fans, no explination is needed

Sorry Apu! Any GM that can turn Peerless Price into a first round pick doesn't deserve to be on anyone's "Worst List" IMO.

Considering how much love there is on this board for Loseman and Evans you can't ignore the fact that they are here because of TD. For every Mike Williams type player there are three or four quality guys including Aaron Schobel. Actually all the difference makers the Bills have are a result of TD. So give the devil his due. TD's worst draft and FA signings are better than the current Admin's effort of a year ago.

  15. Now if we could just get JP to do that, he'd be paying Ralph 3Million this year for the pleasure of playing for The Bills.

We could have reduced the average ticket price instead of raising it by $5.00 per seat per game.

Sorry. I had a DeLuca 1967 Acid flashback moment.

Even if Loseman reimbursed the county for the $3.5 million wellfare check they handed Ralph I still wouldn't waste the time of putting him under center.

  16. Talk about a classic example of point 1, look at LeCharles Bentley. 12.5 million dollar signing bonus, all guaranteed. His annual salary being eaten because the investment is to large to just let him walk. When it's all said and done Bentley could cost the Browns 20 million or more for a couple weeks of football.
