  1. It's pointless arguing with the anti-Peters group. The bottom line is, I don't think you can say you know more about football than Andy Reid or the Philly coaching staff, can you? Or combat the fact that Jason Taylor said he was the toughest O-lineman he has ever faced (no, I don't have a link, so you can choose not to believe me if you wish).

You don't get better by trading away your best players. Was how he went about renegotiating right? Of course not. Nobody will argue that. But as fans, our concern should always be whether any move made or not made makes the Bills better. And if you don't feel that this trade makes the Bills much weaker, then you really don't know much about football, sorry to say. There's a reason he got all that money he was asking for, and that's because he's a damn good player and the rest of the world knows that except for a few hyper-sensitive posters on this board. No, he shouldn't have given the Bills a discount for taking a chance on him and no, he wasn't a team cancer. He never requested a trade. He was an idiot for sitting out, but he is the kind of player you keep around. The Bills aren't as poor as some may think...they could have easily afforded his contract demands. And none of this precedent-setting crap either. If this was Donte Whitner pulling this stunt, then ya, him you get rid of asap. But Peters was their most valuable commodity.

This was, by far, the dumbest move this team has made in a long time.

I could care less about Peters at this point, since he does not play for the Bills anymore. I do wonder what Cowboy's fans said when they traded Herchel Walker though. Granted they got 400 1st round picks for him, but I think they managed ok without one of their top players.

  2. I said in a post yesterday that VY is the next Mike Vick, an overrated running machine who the league will catch up to. For some reason, people on this board and especially ESPN and the national media love this kid, despite his TD-INT ratio, poor passing rating and poor completion percentage. Sure he won a couple games last year with his feet (remember, that doesn't win Super Bowls) but this league with the scouting they do will catch up and make this dude a one-dimensional overhyped below-average QB like Vick.

Anyway, he's the new Madden poster boy despite a handful of starts and no playoffs. Nice.... this is why the NFL is becoming more of a joke every year..... money, money, money and skills and character and winning be damned.

Now it’s Vince Young’s turn to take on the Madden Curse.

The Tennessee Titans’ quarterback was selected to appear on the cover of EA Sports’ “Madden 08” video game.

Last year, Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander appeared on the video game cover and became the sixth consecutive cover star to suffer an injury during the season.

Major Adams, Young’s agent, said that he and his client didn’t fear the socalled curse.

We don’t believe in no jinx" Adams told the Nashville Tennessean. “People said when they put Vince on the cover of Sports Illustrated [that] it was going to jinx him in the Rose Bowl game, and [Young’s Texas team] won the national championship.”

Does this mean he actually believes in the jinx?

  3. The schedule looks tough now....but don't be surprised if we see that change in early November. Maybe Dallas, Pittsburgh, Baltimore will all be mediocre teams once they get on the field.

    You never know.

Pittsburgh is already a mediocre team, plus they have a new HC.

  4. Culpepper has a lot to prove.  His season last year BEFORE injury was lousy, and once Brad Johnson stepped into the starting role, the offense improved immediately.  Also the knee injury will be a factor, despite how he may have looked in pre-season.

In addition, if I may, Culpepper has proven to be a poor QB under pressure. In 2002 (after the prior exits of Christy, McDaniel and then Corey Stringer?? ) he struggled with 18 TD's, 23 INT's, and 23 fumbles. Enter Matt Birk, McKinney and others and he did good again. 2005 Birk goes down and again Culpepper (in 7 games) throws 6 TD's, 12 INT's, and 7 fumbles. If the Dolphins truely have a poor line, I don't think they really upgraded at QB.

  5. Maybe they should ask Lee Evans (and the other receivers) their opinions on JP and Kelly. Pretty sure they would say JP gives them a better chance. On the flip, the rbs probably want Kelly so they can get a 100 receptions this year. It may be a matter of which qb will get them the best stats/fatter contract by the end of the year...if Peter Kings vomit is true at all.

  6. Dude I hope you're either drunk or 12 years old.  Who is Clemens?  Who is "double t" Whittner?

You don't think Fletcher, Spikes, McGahee, McGee, Evans etc are even remotely talented?

Seriously, re-think a little bit and learn how to spell.

Must mean Charlie Clemons. He's a solid LB and cleary is top tier talent like McGinnis.

  7. First of all, the thing that stood out for me, my Dad, and my brother was that JP seemed to do great on 7-on-7, but when it came to 11-on-11 he simply didn't perform very well with a rush in his face (at one point screaming out "!@#$!!!" after not even getting a pass off, which prompted a few "Did he say what I thought he said??" comments from the people in the stands around us). He put a couple throws right in the dirt w/ pressure on him. Losman throws a beautiful ball - too bad you don't get points for playing catch. You could see he was also getting down on himself after mistakes - I just kept hoping he would stop doing that - I just don't think that is something that inspires teammates. Like it or not, our impression was that Holcomb did better w/ 11-on-11 and pressure on him - after a slow start in which he almost got a couple intercepted in a row. At one point Holcomb made two nice consecutive passes to Aiken to opposite sides of the field - at which point I said jokingly to my brother - "They both just cemented starting positions"  One of the Aiken passes was at the expense of Clements - prompting a few people in the crowd to yell "Cmon Nate!!!!:

Even you said that JP struggled a little bit in the 11-11 drills and the slim edge went to Kelly Machine Gun Holcomb, but is there some obvious tell tales that showed JP is not getting "it" with everyone on the field (as the other onlooker mentioned)?

  8. I searched online. Did this guy ever start an NFL game? Any stats on the guy would be nice.

So I messed up my first post. Mike Williams happens. Anyway. Vikes won 6 out of the 9 games when Fowler started (1-2 with big dumb and 5-1 with giraffe neck).

Star Trib had this to say about him.

ASSETS: Has quick feet, good initial quickness, and sound technique. Good pass protector on the interior.

FLAWS: Limited overall strength. Won't bowl defenders over. Doesn't pull very well and doesn't always get proper leverage.

    CAREER POTENTIAL: Solid backup.

  9. FWIW. I watched him play in some of the Vikes games last year (I live in MN), and he didn't dominate and didn't stink. He was just there. However, MN's line was pretty poor as well in the middle (hence Hutch signing) so I think it is tough to judge him when he was surronded by poorness. Another wait till the season starts signing by Marv. Let's hope for the best.

  10. We could just...sign Stephen Neal, which we honestly should have done last week.  Instant upgrade.  Give me him over Wells any day, hopefully losing out on Wells will give Marv a kick in the butt to sign Neal.

I am new to TSW (obvious), but why is this board enamered with Stephen Neal and think he is better than Wells.

    1. He is another cast off from NE (See Bledsoe, Milloy for info)

    2. He is an undrafted player (doesn't mean much, ie Peters)

    3. He didn't play a game last year. (See ESPN player log)

    4. He didn't play a game last year backing up 3 young NE linemen.

I might have the wrong Neal, but if not can you give me some feedback on why you think this guy is good?
