1. Man, posts like this frustrate the hell out of me..  while I don't entirely disagree that the offense needs help.. it's all about the lines! You don't build a respectable team by getting skill position players first, and linemen second. No one knows how good J.P., Willis or any damned receiver on this team for that matter, can be, because we haven't had a decent line since the "Glory Days". It's time for Bills fans to come to terms with the idea that this team is going to be 6-10 next year, (at the very best) regardless of who we draft or sign in free agency. Good teams are not made over night, it will take 2-3 seasons. Those that are made overnight, never last.

No one doubts the Bills would be lucky to hit the 6 win mark. The problem is that this free agency period would have been a nice starting point for the rebuilding. You don't rebuild with other teams scrubs which appears to be the Bills plan. Youa re right that it will take years to rebuild this team. A lot of us are just wondering when they will start.

  2. Bah, he's a turnover waiting to happen.. while he IS an upgrade over just about anyone the 'phins have had at QB in recent history, he isn't going to be a savior.

    640985

You miss the point. DC doesn't have to be "a savior". They are building and have in place pieces for a great supporting cast. The 'phins are light years ahead of the Bills and Buffalo doesn't seem to be willing to close the gap.

  3. Unfortunately the Bills will not be able to address this need with the 8th pick unless they're going to reach on an offensive lineman or if Dbrick falls to them, which he won't.

What offensive lineman would you want the Bills to take at #8?

    640691

I would like the Bills to trade down. Maybe thier 1st and 2nd for Denvers two #1's. If that is possible I think the Bills could go back to back on the line. McNeil from Auburn (6-9 335) then come back with Giles from Georgia (plays gaurd and tackle).

It would be suicide for the Bills to think win now. Long term the Bills the need five new starters on the offensive line. None of the returning players or any of the ones signed this off season are long term solutions. I'd like to see the Bills use there first three picks on the O-line.

You have McGahee. Take the next two season he's under contract for and find out if he can carry the mail. No running back in the league was hit more behind the line of scrimmage then he was. Let's see what he's got before a decision on resigning him has to be made.

  4. Having a great TE will help the Bills. We need someone young and strong to help the QB's get off the turf.

You can have Gates, Moss and LT on the offense. If the QB can't get them the ball because he's on his back then what does it matter?

I've seen teams with average QB's win the SB. I have yet to see a team with an average offensive line win one. Which is why the Bills are in trouble unless they seriously start to address the problem.

  5. Brad Johnson        | 15 | 184 294  62.6 1885  6.4 12  4 |  18  53  0 |

Why do the Vikes need another qb? Johnson tore it up for them and was something like 7 and 2 in his starts.

    639529

Maybe because he's 38 years old? But the Vike's are not any closer to the playoffs then the Bills so I don't see it happening. But the Broncos? If that big Duck is still there? A deal maybe had.

  6. Hmmm. Must have lucked out this morning, because I've heard nothing but sportstalk in the last half-hour. Today's main topic: whether signing Craig Nall -- and telling him he's here to compete for the starting job -- foreshadows the possible departure of J.P. Losman, keeping Holcomb as the veteran 'insurance policy'.

HS: "It's tough enough dividing up minicamp/training-camp reps for two potential starting QBs... how do you do it with three? It doesn't make sense."

    637144

HS brings up a great point.

I feel when you have three QB's it means you don't have any. I have no problem with an open camp to decide the starter. I just have a problem with the three guys that will compete. You have a young kid that was mishandled, a veteren QB who hasn't shown much in his 9 years and a fourth year third stringer. With all the QB's that were to be had in free agency? This is the best the Bills could do?

  7. Who are you going to trust, Tom Donahoe or Marv Levy?

If Levy gives Losman a chance, then obviously he sees somethign he likes in him, but until then, Losman is just a guy Tom Donahoe drafted.

    636931

Didn't the current GM re-hire (or retain) the same coach the TD did? Or did you forget that?

Jouren was not the first choice of the current leadership. He is a last minute replacement. But why bring up facts of the past? Lets hammer TD for not being "fan Friendly".

  8. And again, that same line looked good protecting Holcomb and Holcomb despite having basically the same number of starts as JP in his career looked decent behind the exact same line.  So maybe it  isn't the line that is the problem.  Maybe I have called Mcnally out wrongly and the problem truely is Losman.

    636918

Looked good? Should I even bother with breaking out the numbers or should I be nice and give you a chance to edit your post.

    You let me know.

  9. How about this?

Before sending JP to the scrap heap? Let's get him an offensive line to protect him?

It's not to late for the Bills to start. They stil have time to trade for and draft O-Linemen.

Let's give JP more then 1-2 seconds to read a defense before it's decided that he can't.

It's amazing how ghosts from the past get more of a benefit of the doubt then some of the sparse talent the team has.

  10. It has nothing to do with anti-Bills stuff.  Simply put, the guys in the AM were friggin horrible.  Seriously, coming off of a weekend too, they barely even talked sports today.  I thought Schopp and the Bulldog were pretty decent this afternoon, but I can say this......if I was the station manager, and I heard the crap coming from my radio station that came through this morning, there would be two guys fired real quick.

I heard two callers in an hour.  One from Virginia, and one from Atlanta.  They hurried the guy from Atlanta so they could talk about downtown parking.  Unreal, especially for a Monday.

I don't even care if they are anti-Bills.  I'm not looking for company line, Bills Digest type crap either.  Just some well informed local talk of my favorite NFL team would be nice.  Hell, any kind of sports talk would have been nice this morning.

    636807

You have no idea what you are talking about. I am no WGR fan. But they have treated the Bills with kid gloves this offseason.

What do you expect from them? To get all fired up about signing a bunch of third stringers? Should they do an hour on the Bills latest signing? The Packers #3 QB?

Jesus. You people are unfriggin real. GR has been more then fair. Don't get mad at them. Get mad at the Bills for not giving them anything to talk about.

The people who say that Bills fans are some of the smartest and best in football I will guess don't read these posts.

  11. It's not your $$$, is it?....

    636466

You are right. Ralph has every right not to spend his money. Even when he raises ticket prices. Considering every NFL player salary is paid from the TV Money.

Why should we as fans expect the Bills to even sign one quality player. As long they have the 50 or so spots filled as required by the CBA we as fans should all be happy.

The tickets we buy have come with no gaurentee about providing a winner. Why should Ralph even want to try? Last year the team was 5-11 and sold out most of it's games.

Ralph is no dummy. His plan is simple.

Bring in a familiar face to appease the fans. Thinking that no one would dare question him and his abilities. Tickets will be sold. The house will be full and Ralph has more money to leave to his family.

You are right it's not our money. My money is in the bank. The same place it was when I cancelled my season tickets before last season. If the Bills can't even make the effort to put an entertaining product on the field then I can't make the effort to write out the $500 check.

When Ralph keeps his money I'll keep mine. When he decides to spend his? I'll spend mine again.

  12. I don't know if a team would trade for Moulds right now. Every knows he wants out and that with us signing Davis, he is a bit more expendable. Most likely, an intersted party will just wait for him to get cut.

It would be nice if we could get a pick for him though...

    635782

I am very interested in hearing how signing a wideout who doesn't even have Josh Reeds numbers makes Eric Moulds expendable? Really?

Moulds is Miami bound as soon as he is released. Moulds wants a chance to win and knows this (Bills) franchise is as far from winning as any other team in the league. Moulds, Chambers, Culpepper, Brown and that defense? I think the end of the Pats run is upon us.

  13. All right already. Since no one else can be bothered, I'll take the responsibility (as only a friend would) and tell you.

    You're a moron.

Now, go find that rock and get comfortable under it. And you got a little piece of green something stuck in your front teeth.

    635764

I'll add you to the list of posters who can't come up with a reason why Marv is qualified to be the Bills GM.

  14. crash and burn , you say you know nothing about foot ball but marv is a !@#$ . the team has not hit the field yet and you are sure it is not going to work . last post to your crap mr football god . i hope you go back to where you came from and cheer for your teem because you do not sound like a bills fan . bye have a good day with the fish .

    635598

    Wow. 4,146 posts.

Doesn't leave much time for a girlfriend?

But I guess it would be hard with your parents knocking on the basement door all the time.

  15. OK, then give us a reason besides he has never been a GM before or that he has not been in the league in 10 years (which he has doing pre season stuff for the bills and analysists for the Bears)

As for reasons why he might make a good GM

    1. He is good with players, they respect him and want to play for him (ask any player who knows him and they all say the same thing)

    2. He knows football, he spent many years in the league and knows the game

    3. He has been to the big game before, after 4 trips to the Super Bowl he knows what it takes to get a team there

    4. He He comes highly recomended from other people around the league, Everyones favorite football god - Polian said he is a great guy who will make a good GM

    635612

The best you can do is a recommendation from his friend? The rest of your post is crap.

He is good with players? He was forced out of the game beacuse, and I paraphrase " I can not relate to today's players".

He knows football? You just described about 1000 others canidates. Most of which are better qualifed then Marv.

He's been to the SB and lost four times. Hell, is Bud Grant still alive? I think he's younger then Marv. Let's sign him up and get younger.

As it stands. My challenge to all for a reason why Marv is qualified to be GM goes unanswered.

  16. So if you work for somebody, you don't also work with them? Levy will draft us some good ones- and once he does, players like Tripplet will flourish. Don't forget, systems can change how a player is perceived.

Picture Joe Montana in a down the field type offense wouldnt have been near as good. Or Bruce Smith trying to play more gaps than he did.

Butler did not force Levy out- Wilson NEVER would have allowed it.

I like what he's doing- we aren't contenders yet, and he's not overextending himself, and tying up our cap. Once we're close, we'll still have cap room to add the last piece of the puzzle. Like it or not, you'll have to be patient. Its not Levy and Jauron's fault we've missed playoffs this long.

And by the way, the year Sherman got coach of the year, Jauron was a top candidate- and he didn't have one of the greatest QB's ever running the offense. Jauron doesnt come with the hype a Sherman would have, but I think he's much better at coaching than Sherman.

    635618

Jauron's offense sucked. He had Erlacher and a weak schedule. Besides that? Jauron's record is a joke.

Levy did not quit on his own. He was forced out becuase the game passed him by. And Levy has done nothing since then to catch up.

The Bills offense was great because of Ted Marchibroda. End of story. And Bruce was great because he decided to be great. Marv himself would admit he couldn't coach the d-line to save his life. Polian stacked the team with great players and all Levy had to do was not F it up. And four times in a row he couldn't get out of his own way.

  17. How about the fact that he worked VERY closely with Bill Polian, John Butler, and A.J. Smith. How about he has been involved in football for decades. How about he is very good at earning people's trust, and motivating them.

How about the fact that a very good coach like Dick Jauron jumped at the chance to work for him.

Mr. Levy is being very patient, and not making rash moves to sign guys. I like what he's been doing a lot.

    635584

Levy has been patient? He hasn't done anything other then sign other teams third stringers. Hell! I can do that.

Jauron? He's just happy to have a job. No other team was even considering him. The only reason he was picked over Sherman was that Sherman wanted too much say in the players brought in. Levy would have beeen rendered useless with Sherman here and would have found himself out of a job quickly.

He didn't work with Polian, he worked for Polian. And Butler thought so much of him that he forced him out as coach and put Phillips in.

    Try harder next time.
