  1. I don't agree, this is Ralph's Buffalo Bills and Fitz is making the most of any of the QBs so he is never safe. Although, most teams, if not all, have at least one QB making more than the 4 of ours will combined. I do think he will stick around though, as will Edwards. The odd man out is going to be Brohm with the drafting a QB to be the #3. Maybe Brohm will continue his career as a practice squad player in Buffalo, like he did in Green Bay, right where he probably belongs.

I think they all three are on the team. Brown ends up on the practice squad. However Edwards is at the most risk. You know what you have with Fitz and I think Gailey will like his mobility. Brohm has that "what if" factor that keeps him around. Edwards, you know what you have so you know what your losing.

  2. QB:

Edwards; Fitzy; Brohm - I can't wait to see what earned Brohm a 2nd round pick and Fitzy can be my back up anytime. Edwards is yet another product of poor coaching and coordinating.

    RB:

Jackson and Lynch are still two of the better tandums in the league. With a healthy OL, they will be better.

OL: Wood, Levitre, Hangartner, Butler, Bell are not bad IF healthy. Trust me, with more time to gell, they can be a better than average line. Throw in Incognito, Meridith and Scott, we aren't exactly thin.

WR: Evans, Jackson and Hardy. With Owens, Parrish and Reed going, we need to address this position.

TE: Nelson and Shouman are better than average starters. Fine, Stupar need to stay healthy. Big names do not make big players.

DL: Stroud, Williams, Maybin, Schoble (he will be back), Kelsay, Denny and McCargo are not enough. Kelsay, Denny and McCargo are gone. We need to address this position.

CB: McGee, McKelvin, Corner, Florence, Youboty...what more could we ask for?

S: Whitner, Byrd, Wilson, Scott...again, very under appreciated

LB: Mitchell, Poz, Harris, Ellison, Palmer...look for one of the youngsters to step up

nice analysis except I think we need a LT. not confident bell is the answer. I say OL/LB/DL/WR/ are the biggest area of in that order. QB is is lower on my list because i dont think there is anyone at the top that is worth taking this year. i think we can pick up a WR in FA. I would pick OL/LB with first 2 picks. easier to get productive players in those rounds.

  3. he is starting to grow on me. check out some of the youtube videos of him in interviews. he reminds me of tony dungy on how he carries himself. whats more important is who he brings in as OC. our defense, while not great, is good and would be better if we had a offense that was respectable. so draft a LT/LB as the first two picks and try and get a QB in the 3rd round. i still think brohm has a lot of upside. live arm and quick release and he even said he likes the cold!

  4. Keep this date in your calendars. This was heard on a radio station and as part of a certain Thurman Thomas weekly show, that the Buffalo Bills have big time news on 1/15/2010 that will impress the fans and be shocking.

Thurman would not go into the news on the radio, but I am guessing that perhaps this is tied to Coach Sal's report of Cowher being interested in the Bills. Maybe this is the date that they are targeting as the signing and turning around of the Buffalo Bills Franchise or the Ownership status and a heir taking over and keeping the team in buffalo.

Hmmm...usually you can get his most recent shows on the audio vault...conspiracy?

  5. Here is a list of our draft picks in the first and second rounds and who we passed on!

A more objective analysis would be to limit yourself to the 5 players after they picked in round that round. Its easy to cherry pick the best from each round. You have to think of who they needed at the time or a similar player (Whitner vs Ngata or Maybin vs Orakpo) to gauge how they did. Remember that Kelly was our 2ND first round pick when we picked him.

In the end it all comes down to the results on the field which is the most objective measure of how they did.

  6. I've heard and read about all the bills FA losses/Trades this year. I really have no problem with any of them. These guys are the same "star" players that got us what over the last 5 years? A bunch of losing seasons. Remember when spikes boasted about the D possibly being better than the Ravens best D? That ended up being pretty accurate huh? In the end, most of these guys were talkers and not doers.

I am ready for a change. I am looking forward to this season. Now if the Sabres could just do what they are supposed to do and beat the islanders already.

  7. Looking this whole thing over this morning, I came to the conclusion that the Bills would be best served to have a poor season record wise so that they could fall into the top 5 of next years draft and come away with several blue-chip prospects. This team was poor against the run last season and lost Fletcher, Spikes and argueably the best run support CB in the league in Clements. It's going to be very tough to find 3 starters in this draft to replace talent with talent. We also need to find a starting Hb via trade or in the Draft.

The Bills as a team would have a better chance at making a run at the Bowl in 2008 if they finished poorly this season and reaped the benifits of being able to find some prime talent in next years draft and benifit from a last place schedule.

To me it's all about winning that big one and I'd gladly take a step back this season for a more promising future.

    You can't be serious?

  8. Just as we will be spending "Cash to the Cap" (~109 Million), there is also "Cash under the cap" or what the actual salary outlays are for this year. Does anyone have that number? Say for example it is 50 Million, the bills would theroretically have 59 million in cash to pay for new salaries. So if we were to sign clements this year and he gets a 15 million bonus plus say 3 million in salary, that would take our available cash to spend down to 41million. Our actual cap number would be adjusted by some number less that than.

I don't think things are as bad as people make them out to be. Sure the bills are not going to spend $150million in salaries, but I believe in the law of diminishing returns, such that the higher amount of money you spend on players, the returns you get decrease as you spend more.

  9. A little background....

My son (just turned 15 in Jan) is a aspiring football/basketball player and a pretty good one at that......but 5 months ago towards the end of his freshman HS season took a blow to the side of the knee covering a special teams play.....

    - The original diagnosis was a sprained MCL......while it looked bad to begin with actually ended up healing in a couple of weeks......

    - He went out and played one fore game (with 2 to go) and it took us that long to get an MRI down here and since it was scheduled we went ahead and took him.....the MRI revieled that not only did he have the sprained MCL but a fracture of the growth plate in his knee. He was done for the season right then and there (caused a HUGE problem in our house as he wanted to finish his season) but anyway he was done......

    - The fracture was supposed to take about a month to heal......right about the month time frame....basketball begins and he tries out.....has pain immediately in his knee at tryouts and so he skips the basketball season and we take him back to the doctor

    - The doctor says he still has menisus? injury and smashed cartilage which will heal. He he recommends swimming pool exercises for the next month no liftfing and then it should be fine

    - Brett waits TWO months before he starts lifting again along with continuing with pool work.....but there is this one small problem....the sharp pain in his knee is not going away.....he lifts pain free but cannot run.....

    - It has now been 5 total months from the time of the injury......and he STILL cannot push off of it......the pain is coming from underneath his kneecap and he says it almost feels like a piece of cartalage is broken off and he feels it when he tries to run....

    - The ortho who examined the MRI mentioned nothing of any broken off cartilage

I dont know what to do......does this sound like a orthoscopic surgury thing? How long to heal from something like that for an athlete.

I can't believe your on the buffalo bills message boards looking for advice. How about getting a second opinion from a sports doc ortho?

For the record I just had ACL surgery and the MRI showed no torn cartlige, but when the doc went in he found cartlige torn in 4 places. Three on my meniscus.

  10. Logic that was already brought up in this very thread. It's just that she puts the whole package together nicely.

I think Lori did a great job stating the facts and the reasons why reed SHOULD be in the HOF. To bad she does'nt have a vote. I think Swann was a mistake to get in.

Performance in big games should mean nothing when it comes to HOF consideration. Otherwise guys like Doug Williams and Timmy Smith would be in.

  11. Give Jim Kelly this offensive line and you have JP Losman with no mobility. Did you actually watch that game? Kelly made tons of mistakes. And he had all the time in the world on a lot of occasions.

That was not my point. He is a HOF QB and only 22 others got that distinction. I'm not here to argue whether or not he had a good game or compare him to anyone else. Any HOF QB with out a good supporting cast will have a tough time succeeding, but a crappy QB on a great team is still just crappy.

Again my overall point is, it will be tough to ever find "the next Jim Kelly" in Buffalo.

  12. I was suffering through watching SB XXV last night. Through all the suffering, a slight appreciation of how good that team and others were and how lucky we were to expierence those times. It made me feel better. We had Kelly, a HOF QB. I started to think, we were lucky. How many teams get to have a HOF QB play for them? Its been 10 years since he retired, and we have yet to find his replacement. Here are some depressing stats to think about when hoping for the next Jimbo:

    23 HOF QB's

3 Teams have had two (Miami, SF, Dalas)

That means 20 Franchises have had HOF QB's in the history of Football.

40 SB Winners. 28 of them by HOF QB's

45/80 QB's playing in SB are in HOF (I included Brady as a HOF)

Is there anyone smart enough to figure out the probablity of the Bills ever getting another HOF QB and therefore getting back to the SB?

I think its pretty low just because of the fact that there are so few franchises with two HOF QB?

  13. 1st pick = some bum TE whose name i don't remember

2nd pick = some QB outta Miami named Jim Somethingerother :pirate:. Got the pick directly from trading Cousineu (sp?) to the Browns. Read an article a couple years ago that we indirectly got the pick from the OJ to SF trade, thru a series of trades across a couple years

    Tony Hunter from ND

Yup, we drafted Tom C with the pick we got from the OJ trade. We trade Tom C to Cleveland for the pick we used to get Kelly. Therefore trading OJ indirectly lead us to drafting Kelly. Not bad.

  14. You can add another '0'. As in '0' difference makers signed during free agency. Couple that with signing a losing coach instead of Mike Sherman? I wish Marv would step down.

Really! Give me a reason, besides being Ralph's buddy, why Marv was signed as GM. What are his qualifications? If you want to go by coaching record? Why not sign Don Shula as GM? He has more wins and SB Rings?

Come on. Give me some reasons besides this sentimental BS.

    635534[/snapback]

What would you conisder difference makers? Are you the type of guy who needs to see big signings made in order for you to feel good about the moves? How many difference makers did Seattle or Pittsburgh sign last year? Or what about New England. Its tough to buy a winning team with big FA signings. They can help you, but its not a valid predictor of future sucsess.

What were Bill Polian's qualifications when he got hired? He was unproven. At some point in our lives we are all unproven at something. The best people figure out how to do a good job and the rest of them figure out how to say "you want frieds with that?"

  15. I am amazed to hear all the people talk about Losman and the possiblity of drafting one of the quaterbacks in the first round. You people need to get a grip on reality.

    1) Marv has said that you build a team from the inside out. That inside being the guys in the trenches. There is no way we will take a skill position with the first pick. Nor will we ever trade up. Its too expensive to move up. It would cost us a good player, and maybe a 1st pick next year. Not only expensive in the draft, its is expensive in $$$.

    2) There is a lot of talent in the first round. The hype surrounding the "best" players in the draft will have faded in October and December. I'm sure SF fans are loving that Alex Smith pick right now?

    3) Losman. All I have to say about this is; give the guy another 2 years at least. It takes some quaterbacks a while to get it. There are a few QB's that I can think of that took them a few years to get it. Hasseleback, Delhomme, Gannon are three that come to mind right away. Look at the development of Simms in TB. People have been wanting to write him off for a while now. Very few QB's are in the Brady, Big Ben mold where they have sucess right out of the gates. You could have easily said the same things about Eli Mannining after his first year; "He hasnt show he has what it takes" etc.

    4) People around here love the players when they are good, but they are also quick to turn on them. Its frankley embarrasing. Lets hope your boss has some more faith in you after you screw up. People forget that at one point people wanted Frank Riech to start instead of Jimbo. Remember "Do the Riech thing!"

    5) All of the top 3 QB's in the draft will have forgetable years.
