  1. +1...Amen!

there is no amount of money that we could offer mario williams that would be overpaying.

there are moves that change the course of not just sports teams, but sports leagues.

    the chicago bulls drafted mj

    the cleveland cavaliers drafted lebron

    the lakers traded for shaq

    the giants got eli

    the colts drafted peyton

some moves are bigger than x's and o's.

    bigger than dollars and cents.

some moves change the direction of organizations.

this is one of those moves.

this gets hundreds of millions of people that watch football to stop saying "the buffalo bills lol" and start saying "the buffalo bills!"

this makes some 20 year old college football player sitting in his dorm room right now playing madden, make buffalo his "go-to" team cause of mario and stevie.

that same 20 year old that could be sitting in his dorm room with the next great qb, watching pro games on tv, seeing the ralph at capacity.. to turn and say "man, someday we should be playing THERE."

these are the kind of moves that get us 4 prime time games next year. 2 at home.

there is no amount of money in this scenario that constitutes as overpaying.

on thursday morning, we were the buffalo bills. now, we're The Buffalo Bills.

  2. +1

We do not choose to be fans, it is our duty. If we wanted to swear off the Bills tomorrow we couldn't. Why do we care so much about something that has hurt us so bad along the years? We care because our team needs us as much as we need them. Just like you don't walk away on someone you love when they are down and out because of poor decisions they have made. We as fans have not and will not walk away from the Buffalo Bills.

This signing today does not happen if it was not for people like us. The people who can name atleast 90-100% of the roster at any point throughout the year. The people who check in on this website atleast once a day because they feel like they have to. The people who altered their schedule over the last few days because they had to know if we signed Mario. This signing is for us.

When people talk about how great the sports fans in Buffalo are they are not talking about some mystery man, they are talking about you and I. This signing does not happen without us. If this was Cincinnati Mario Williams does not sign because it is just a questionable city with a football team. He could have got paid big $ anywhere. But he chose us, the place that is known for having the best fans in the NFL. And if you don't think we had something to do with it you don't know football. We give an average city its only hope to land big name free agents since we no longer over pay for them. We are the appeal.

So in closing here is to us the best fans in sports. This is much more than a simple NFL free agent signing. This is eternal hope for the future. This is what could finally turn our franchise around and get us that Super Bowl Championship that we so badly deserve. No matter what happens we can take comfort that we do in fact have a big impact on our hope for the future. Thank you and GO BILLS!

  3. I also bought the Sunday Ticket To Go for $350 and was unable to watch the game on my laptop. The option to watch the game was "grayed out". I called numerous times in the first half and got the same "we're working diligently on the problem" BS. At halftime, I left the house and found a place to watch the rest of the game. When I got home and saw that the option to watch the games was still "grayed out", I called and requested a refund. The rep said the credit to my card would come within 72 hours, but unfortunately I'll believe it when I see it. I have no faith in DirecTV.

I also tried the Sunday Ticket To Go on the Ipad and the stream was horrific. I gave up after 5-10 minutes.

  4. Both Sal's postgame show & Saturday show are some of the best programming on WGR. I also like the idea of Joe Buscaglia & Tim Graham working together. The morning guys are pretty good, the afternoon guys are tough to take and I prefer not listening to them. We can only hope that Sal or Joe/Tim could one day do the afternoon drive time slot.

  5. I think that the gbn website with those opponents' winning %tages is terrific.

This is who we should be rooting for if you want the Bills to get the highest pick possible (assuming Bills, Oakland & Seahawks all finish 5-11 and we'd be able to have a higher pick than Oakland...even better would be if we can jump Cleveland, but I don't think that they will beat Jax):

    1. Indianapolis (obviously, I'll take a lot of heat from folks for rooting against the Bills, but from a pure draft order perspective, unfortunately it's true)

    2. Pittsburgh (big time, b/c they played Oakland, and we played Miami 2x)

    3. Cincinnati (big time, b/c they played Oakland, and we played Jets 2x)

    4. Houston (both Oakland and Bills played them, and we played NE 2x)

    5. San Diego (they played Oakland 2x, although Washington played Oakland 1x)

    6. Giants (they played Oakland 1x)

    7. Cleveland (both Oakland and Bills played them, and we played Jax 1x)

    8. Seattle and Oakland, obviously (however, either/both unlikely to win...and if Seattle wins, it makes our opponents winning %tage lower since we played Tenn)

    9. Chicago (in case the Bills win)

That's my 2 cents, not taking our front office's incompetence into account. Again, the listing above is for draft order purposes only.

    Go Bills...in Fall 2010!!

  6. My point is that San Jose Bills fan stated Cal-Berkeley was a top 5 academic school in the country, and it is not by any objective measure. As a public school, it is good bang for the buck, but is not in the same company as many of the Ivys, Duke, Stanford etc...

And your point is? It's a fact that Cal is one of the best schools in the US, especially if you measure bang for your buck, it being a public school and all. Personally, I'd say that UCLA doesn't belong anywhere near ahead of Berkeley, but that's just me (and my in-laws, UCLA alums both, will have my hide for saying that).

Walker, too, is a smart guy, there's no doubt about that. Perhaps a bit too smart to buy into some of the rah rah aspects of the NFL--he may prefer to cash a paycheck while expending minimal effort to earn same and with minimal impact on his long-term health prospects that the League can cause. Just ask Kyle Turley, the latest victim of the long-term effects of playing in the NFL as per Florio yesterday.....

  7. How about this annually highly respected source...it ranks Cal-Berkeley #36 worldwide, #18 in the US and #4 in California...quite a bit away from top #5 in the US

    http://www.usnews.com/articles/education/w...ollege-rankings

Dude, you could save a lot of unnecessarily used space if you cut only that part of the quote which you are responding to.

And yes, Cal-Berkeley is one of the top five schools in America, undergraduate, graduate, public or private.

    http://www.learn4good.com/top10/universities.htm

This particular study shows it is one of the top five worldwide. I could cite several other sources also...but why should I do the work for you?

  8. Cal-Berkeley is nowhere near one of the top 5 academic universities in the country. It is a university that has historically been the scene of political activism, but that does not make it a top 5 university

So true Thurman. Sad and pathetic. Without the internet, the only way we'd hear about this guy is when they remove his dead body from the room he hasn't left in 20 years with a forklift.

I totally agree with this. He had an interview about one month ago and sounded "philosophical" about the switch. Now people are latching onto that trying to equate it with a lack of effort.

A few things we know about Langston. He went to Cal which is one of the top five Universities in the country. He graduated with a degree in economics. That's not possible as a student athlete unless you're a hard worker. He's traveled the world. He's an intelligent, articulate man who knows damn well he won the lottery when the Bills signed him. There was never a question of his attitude or effort before.

The Bills put him in a position to fail. They also scapegoated him.

He's an average right tackle with very little explosiveness. I don't think it's his weight. Very few football players 6'8" have explosion. The ones that do are freaks...exceptions. He's like the big guy on the basketball team who lumbers up and down the court, gets to one end and has to turn around because the play's going the other way. He's very limited as an athlete and I don't think losing weight would make any difference.

And this part is also true. Many people on this board thought he'd be adequate at LT. He played a bit last year and didn't embarrass himself. But he's not cut out for the position really and now he's gone.

He's not as horrible as some are saying and he's not as good as others were saying before. Symptomatic of our country, it's that inability for most people to see the truth which typically resides somewhere between the opposite extreme opinions. Most people unfortunately can only see black or white.

  9. Well that's discouraging to read. I plan to attend for the first time ever this Friday afternoon with the wife and my 9 and 11 year old sons. We are coming all the way from Denver so I hope as part of the aforementioned great unwashed my boys do not end up too disillusioned. Any tips for when, where to go at what time for both viewing and autographs would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for any such posts as I will be off line for a while, so don't think me unappreciative for any helpful replies.

If you want to view practice as best as possible, arrive early. If the team is practicing on the near grass field, sit high up on the bleachers and more towards the end zone NOT closer to the 50 yard line. If you want to avoid the bus lines, there are 2 homes across the street from St. John Fisher which (on most days) have been charging $15 for parking.

As for autographs, if you want your kids to be assured McGee or McKelvin, have them show up early to the kids line (at least an hour before practice ends). They will have to prioritize which means more to them, seeing all of practice and hoping players sign at the fence or being guaranteed certain autographs in the kids line. By the way, unless your kids are aggressive, they may get pushed around a bit if they wait by the fences. Unfortunately not all fans exhibit model behavior while waiting for autographs at the fences.

I hope that you and your family enjoy your trip.

  10. That was a bit surprising. I've attended training camp every year since 1996 and can definitely say that camp is has become less autograph friendly every year since 2002 or 2003. Mind you, obviously autographs are not why the team has a training camp, but the fact remains that over the years autographs have been much tougher to come by, especially from the higher profile players. The exception to the above is the organized full team autograph signings at specified night practices...as an autograph collector myself, these are terrific. I did pretty well with autographs at Fredonia, but it was never an organized thing, it was whichever players felt like stopping to sign on a given day was who you got (and many of them did, especially after practice)

On a different note, and I'm sorry if I'm opening a can of worms by mentioning it, training camp has become much more fan unfriendly over the years, unless of course you are a corporate VIP and have special reserved seating. For the "unwashed masses", seating availability has decreased and viewing is partially obstructed unless they are practicing on the turf field. Fredonia was fantastic for watching camp, and the first few years in Rochester were very good as well. But the team (maybe rightfully so for its long term well-being) decided to provide the best access to its sponsors as the common man's expense...oh well, that's often the way of the world.

  11. I just called. She was polite to me. She told me as of now it's still Indy-Min BUT THE MANAGER IS TRYING TO GET THE GAME SWITCHED TO BUFFALO. So, keep those calls coming.

I just called and got the same response. I grew up with this Jets-Giants crap until I moved when I went to college, so I am definitely with you in solidarity. Ever since graduating college, I have had DirecTV. I don't always love DirecTV, but I won't leave it as long as they are the only ones with the Sunday Ticket.

  12. I am a Bills fan going back to January 1981 (I was 4 1/2 at the time). My wife and I live in Westchester County New York. We will be in Rochester for the August 5 & August 7 night practices. However, we won't be in Rochester when the tickets for these practices are being distributed on Friday July 18 at various Verizon Wireless stores in the Rochester area.

So I am putting myself at a Rochester area Bills fan's mercy to see if they can obtain 2 tickets to each of these practices please. Thank you for your consideration of this request and please either reply to this thread or PM me if you are able to accomodate me. Thank you.

  13. If you check the teams official site in Chris Brown's blog, if I remember correctly, I think he said that the players report 7/24 and start practicing on 7/25. However, please check his blog to be sure of the dates, the entry was posted about 10 days ago I think

I am planning a trip, and need to know what dates in late July have open practices at St John Fisher.

The official Bills site features the 2007 camp schedule, which does not do anyone much good. Historians, perhaps?

Thanks for any current info, folks.
