  1. You know what Lebron said about karma last week...well it sure looked like the Cheatriots* could have used a speed receiver to stretch the field against the Jets. Deion Branch is NOT that guy... the Jets could sit down in coverage because they had few worries about the long ball from Brady. Say what you will about Randy Moss and yes he is a pathetic jerk, but he always showed up in the playoffs. Also obvious was the lack of pressure on Sanchez by NE...Richard Seymour was likewise tossed aside by the All Knowing Genius...yes draft choices are nice, but no one can guarantee those picks will be game changers like these two. What's that about a bird in hand, Billy boy?

  2. Ok call me crazy but here goes- this week in Toronto (sadly a neutral site for the Bills) we face an average Bears team- not the Ravens or even the Chiefs at home. Buffalo has the edge at quarterback in Fitzy over Cutler. Fitzy played out of his head against B'more, less so against KC, so he us due to bounce back. Bills take a close one, 24-20. Next week- Lions, home cookin' and Merriman- that's right, another win. After that, at Cinci, we are the spoilers in a squeaker.

That's right. You heard it here first. A three game winning streak. (Insert bong joke here) Then we get crushed like a pop can by the Steelers.

Almost called it, sans Merriman- hope we are competitive this Sunday too!

  4. My issue with all the conjecture around what happens after Mr. Wilson passes is that it is all conjecture still.

Why keep plans a secret if they do exist? Why keep everyone guessing?

Ockham's razor comes to mind. When competing hypotheses are equal in other respects, the principle recommends selection of the hypothesis that introduces the fewest assumptions and postulates the fewest entities while still sufficiently answering the question. So which makes the most sense to you:

    1) There is a plan in place for Mr. Kelly and associates, or some other group, to buy the Bills and keep them in WNY. But not publicly acknowledge such a plan in the least which keeps the fan base, coaches, players, as well as any potential coach and player hires questioning the future of the team and tend to avoid making a commitment to a team whose future is uncertain.

    or

    2) There is a plan in place that will cause the eventual relocation of the team. But not publicly acknowledge such a plan in an effort to keep the fans coming to the games instead of disowning the Bills immediately which also allows the Bills to stay in Buffalo the entire time Mr. Wilson is alive.

    or

    3) There is no plan at all and the future of a 900 million dollar business entity if left to see where the chips fall after Mr. Wilsons passing.

Obviously 3 gets discounted immediately as Mr. Wilson is not a moron. So out of 1 and 2, which makes the most sense to you?

I do not know Mr. Wilson or Mr. Kelly or any of their business people. So I am just theorizing like everyone else. But until someone who is credible comes forward (preferably the most credible which would be Mr. Wilson himself) and states otherwise, my guess is number 2 above.

Common sense razor here: 3) is a distinct possibility as Ralph didn't get to be rich by not caring about money. Assuming Wilson cares about his family too, 3) nets the largest windfall for his descendants, and lets him stay owner until death, after which we can assume he will no longer care. Either way, the "chips" fall into his family's pockets.

  5. Here's another article in which Jim Kelly touches upon the future of the franchise. At first glance, it seemed to me more of what we already know at this point... that he is looking to put together a group of investors to purchase the team upon Ralph's demise.

But, reading the paragraph closely, one can infer that things have progressed a lot further than we have thought. The first example is when Kelly states "if that day comes when he decides, "It's time for me to relinquish the ownership..." "then I do have people in line that will want to purchase the team and keep it in western New York."

Two interesting things about this statement. First, the beginning of the sentence seems to indicate that Ralph would consider moving the franchise before he passes, a concept that has, to this point, been rejected by Ralph. Second, while Jim has been making noise for awhile about a group of potential investors, I never remember him being so declarative as he is when he states "I do have people in line that will want to purchase the team and keep it in Western New York." That suggests he has all his ducks in a row, and has everything set up in his corner for a purchase. No longer is the situation theoretical...he now has his people ready to make a move. Of course, that gives rise to speculation as to who those people are?

Other then the usual suspects, (Rich, Golisano, etc I have no idea who those people could be.) Although, I do think it's interesting that Paladino has been so chummy with Thurman of late. Paladino doesn't have the necessary funds to be a majority owner, but he could certainly chip in as a minority owner. At any rate, unless Jim is completely making things up, which seems unlikely, it appears he has assembled a legitimate group of buyers committed to keeping the team local.

What really grabbed my attention though, is the next sentence. "Because I do not entertain any offers from anybody looking to move the Buffalo Bills from western New York." Whoa... that makes it sound as if Jim is in the position to take offers from potential buyers. Only Ralphie would be in that position... unless a future sale was all but a done deal. Now Jim could have been talking about people making offers to join his ownership group... but he did not say that. Further, it seems unlikely there would be any offers to Jim from foreign investors looking to relocate, since everyone knows he is 100% committed to keeping the team here.

It could have just been clumsy wording on his part, or clumsy writing. But, this article, supplemented by John Wawrow's cryptic comments on WGR about him betting"70-30" the Bills would be here long term after his conversation with Ralph, definitely have me believing that Jim has something in the works and picking up steam.

What makes me sick and tired of all this conjecture (however well meaning) is the fact that Ralph Wilson at age 91 is still hanging on to the team. If indeed Jimbo has his ducks in a row, why not make an announcement before a sudden decline in health? Ralph has had the team for 50 years, bought it for something like $50,000, and made mega millions even before figuring in the final asking price. All for a team that has been mediocre or less for the huge majority of its existence, largely due to his shortcomings. Wilson won the stinking lottery when he became an AFL owner, and his team has been loyally supported by the best fans in the country, for better or worse, mostly worse.

My point is if the guy realized how lucky he is, how badly the franchise needs revitalization, and the idea that it's time to get off the horse, the city of Buffalo would not be twisting in the wind as it is now. How long does Ralph need the ego boost of knowing he is an NFL owner? Clearly his family doesn't care, as they don't want to inherit the Bills.

All of this brings me to two possibilities, both of which make me sick to my stomach: Jimbo has the investors in line (as he has been hinting at for years) and Ralph is hanging on out of sheer ego 'til death, or there is no plan in place and the Bills could go anywhere.

If the first scenario is feasible, I just wish an ounce of humility would enter this Ralph's psyche and he would let us all move on as he counts his cash. As to the second, it would be a sadly fitting end to a largely dysfunctional ownership.

  6. It is the only way we will succeed in the future. No more 7-8 win seasons. Its either we stink it up, or make the playoffs. For now, we're stinking it up. I think it was all planned though. Think about it. Buddy Nix didnt sign any decent lineman, not 1 good LB was signed, and no QB upgrades were made. We drafted Spiller, which was a headscrather. Buddy gets it. WE dont get it. He is building for the FUTURE. Sure Spiller may not have a great impact now, but in a year or two, he will be a STAR. Buddy planned this whole season out, so we can just let some young guys develop, see whos worth holding, then we get our win or two, along with the first overall pick. Then we choose the foundation of our team, whether it be on offense or defense. This is what comes with rebuiling Bills fans. Lets hold it together, and one day it will all pay off. Go Bills!

I would feel good about this strategy if we actually had someone at OBD who is a proven draft expert and had the final say- not Ralph. No evidence of anyone close to that in this organization.

  7. The Bills just couldn't land a real coach. A good coach like Shanahan or Cowher would never dream of associating themselves with such a terrible front office and owner. It's sad but that's life.

Right after we signed Chan, didn't it come out that Marty Schottenheimer admitted he was interested in the job?

  8. I attempt to trade Aaron Maybin today, if there are no takers, I waive him, See Ya! He is not getting any better and he is not even on the field anymore. I am all for patience but at some point you need to dump these guys. Maybin makes big money and he is basically worthless. A VERY BAD SITUATION FOR ANY TEAM.

Turn Maybin into a tight end. He has the speed and size. Anybody know if he can catch?

  9. Some recent postings have compared this years' Bills team to the horrible teams of the past, and the year 1985 keeps coming up, largely because that team won only two games. Here is a partial list of starters on the 1985 team:

    Greg Bell

    Joe Cribbs

    Jerry Butler

    Andre Reed

    Pete Metzelaars

    Ken Jones

    Jim Ritcher

    Will Grant

    Joe Devlin

    Fred Smerlas

    Bruce Smith

    Darryl Talley

    Jim Haslett

    Charles Romes

    Steve Freeman

    Scott Norwood

    John Kidd

If this is the team we're comparing to this year's pathetic squad, then we are in worse trouble than ever. Is there anyone on today's squad you would clearly take over the names on this list except for the P/K?

Obviously we had no quarterback in 1985, and the team was waiting for Jim Kelly to arrive. But there clearly was talent. However, the Bills also had one Hank Bullough as coach, who was brought in on the cheap, had never won anything and was clearly in over his head. Sound familiar?

If we are fortunate to somehow draft the "right" quarterback in 2011, we still have no team around him, and the coaching staff right now looks every bit BulloughII.

Truly, these are dark days my friends.

  10. It is apparent that these Bills are every bit as bad as the '68 and '84 editions. However, this is the first time we as fans have our friend the Internet to vent our frustrations. In that spirit, I am offering the following form letter commentary that should suffice for each game that we play the rest of this year, a) because the Bills are uniformly, predictably horrible and b) while I'm still a fan I can't take much more of this.

    * * *

Wow I can't believe how easily we were manhandled by (any team on schedule). I know Chan was seemed angry after the last game, stating, "I mo git me..." (a) a new quarterback (b) a new game plan © sumpin' ta eat. But what we also need is help along the OL- heck we're getting thrown around like (a) ragdolls (b) Barbie dolls © if Barbie was a ragdoll.

Of course there was that glimmer of hope in the first half after the D made a stop, but we gave it away on the next series when (a) Bell got called for holding (b) Green screamed "Ole!" © Edwards trotted out on the field. Now I'm as big a fan of Lee Evans as the next guy, but the man is useless to us if we don't (a) throw in his direction (b) put him in motion © stop Edwards from trotting out on the field.

Seriously our front office has got to get (a) on the ball (b) better at talent evaluation © off the ganja if we are to have a chance next year. We still have the same needs as we did entering last year's draft: (a) OL, QB, TE, WR (b) LB, OL, QB © new ownership led by Jim Kelly.

My pick for player of the game has got to be (a) Brian Moorman (b) Jairus Byrd © quarterback savior "X" still in college. I mean, if not for him, I'd stop being a fan!

  11. I am sure it would absolutely rock my Suicide League. Five things have to happen. 1) offensive line plays error free. 2) TE pulls his head out of his a$$. 3) Lee actually tries. 4) Defense creates turnovers. 5) Special teams scores twice. So, take Green Bay minus 13 as those 5 things will never ever happen. As for my team in suicide this week -- Atlanta over Arizona. As bad as I think the Bills will get beat, I will not put myself in a position to root against them.

The only thing that will be upset this Sunday is my stomach.

  12. Edwards sucked..... Edwards sucks........ blah, blah blah........whatever. We have no other option! So get over it!!!!! He's not the worst we've had, he's not the best. Regardless, he is all we have. We have no one else behind him better than.......... well.....him! So, suck it up NANCY and try and enjoy the season. If you have a better idea/option.... post it here! Other than that.......... go back home, drink some milk from a bottle, change your diper and cry in your own post!

    Jeff Garceeeeeeea. Seriously.

  13. If TE sits on the bench, who do we start? We don't have a Peyton Manning or Drew Brees on the bench to replace him. C'mon! Unfortunately, he is all we have a this point. Listen, you and everyone else need to understand that we are going to BLOW this year until we fix the O-line and get a QB in here to play football. Suck it up Sister!

    Jeff Garceeeeeeeeeeeea.
