  1. I have one odd problem -- about half the time, I can't get to the Hotmail Windows Live Beta through Firefox 1.5 (although MS attests that they are both compatible). Other times, no problem. Couldn't have anything to do with IE 7's launch, hmmm? :bag:

  2. I thought of the NFL analogy, but the problem there is that there's no seeding like there would be with a real bowl championship series (the '89 Broncos would have been a fifth or sixth seed, for instance).

My point wasn't to underline the obvious playoff need, but that the BCS controversy is always about who is and is not getting a fair shake for the title game from voters and computers...while I don't hear enough questions to the presidents and the BCS apologists (Kirk Heibstreit) about how they continue to believe a regular season schedule is enough to decipher who's most deserving of a shot. I just think it would be a new tactic to use by having them explain how a No.1-No.2 matchup like USC-OU can turn into a 36-point clunker...and that it's happened so often.

  3. Haha.  Does your band play boomer sooner after games then?

The times I've gone to the RRS Texas has won.

The Post-game collective for OU is some short chant called "Live on University." It was some glee club bromide written in the '30s that turned sacrosanct at some point.

I guess they sing it very quietly when the Longhorns kick OU's ass. :D

  4. A lot of the arguments against the BCS every year focus on which team is getting jobbed out of its "deserved' spot in the title game. Same crap this year.

But how come we don't hear or read as much about the BCS (and the former Bowl Alliance's) actual match-making performance over the years, where there have been plenty of the deserved who still got served up like a virgin to the Aztecs. Of the 14 "arranged" championship games since 1992, seven have been complete wipeouts.

    USC 55, OU 19.

    Miami 37, Nebraska 14.

    FSU 46, Va. Tech 29.

    Nebraska 42, Tennessee 19

    Florida 52, FSU 20

    Nebraska 62, Florida 24

    Alabama 34, Miami 13

Granted, the old Bowl Alliance games didn't include Pac 10/Big 10 teams that otherwise would have been involved (92, 96, 97), but this to me proves more than anything that deserving teams usually aren't the best teams. I sniff another smokin' on the horizon with Josh Booty tossing up four or five picks against OSU, which will push the BCS' mission beyond the 50 percent failure threshold. And one more prick (I hope) into the stubborn hide of super conference presidents

  5. I'm not sure what they really mean here by legend. Bob Kalsu was a tragedy, but was he a legend with only a 14-game career in Buffalo?

The missing candidates to me are Steve Tasker, by how he transformed people's view of special teams; Joe Cribbs the '80 rookie of the year; and how about Don Beebe -- if only for his "Charlie Hustle" effort against Leon Lett.

Bledsoe -- yeesh, he's not even above Flutie or Wade Phillips. :w00t:

  6. Again I state that most JP supporters are simply saying that assessing him is very difficult due to the negative factors around him.  Anyone who actually believes he is 'good' at this point is obviously deluded.

And what better way to assess JP's shortcomings then try Craig Nall the next few weeks to see if he also can only throw under 100 yards a game in the same laboratory?

  7. What do we mean by "deserve?"

If it's only about whether Rutgers is better than USC, Texas, Arkansas, etc., well, likely not. Although they did handle Illinois a lot easier than Ohio State did, didn't they?

If it's about being rewarded for blocking and tackling your own schedule and enjoy the good fortune of others' bad luck, then they deserve to be up there -- and get their chance (or their wake-up call).

  8. When?

Perhaps once Democrats raise the Minimum wage 40 Percent, thus increasing the payroll of many small businesses by 40 percent.

    When?

Perhaps after Democrats repeal the Bush tax cuts causing you and I (and small business owners) to pay more in taxes.

And the combination of the two...deadly.  Small Businesses lost yesterday.

The minimum wage issue is political theater, not an actual small business concern. In a Gallup poll for Wells Fargo poll last March, 86 percent of small businesses said the minimum wage issue had no impact on their bottom line or their hiring practices.

  9. If a borrower decides not to pay, why would he care about this "group" getting bad marks?

It's not a failsafe, but a component of microlending that has shown to work in other countries. The shame factor among your peers (who might be, say, fellow members of a professional association) might be more effective than a hundred unreturned messages from a collection agency.

Prosper does report to credit bureaus, so he'd still mostly be hurting himself.

  10. Anybody catch Greg Schiano's interview on ESPN Friday? They're already peppering questions on where he's going off to coach next year for big bucks. So I guess the fairy tale these days ends with drunk prince from Miami offering Cinderella $100 for a ballroom quickie at 8:30 p.m.

  11. Fourth and inches at his own 29...and goes for it to win the game.

And it was on the same night he had to live down a failed first quarter onside kick that kickstarted A&M from their 14-3 hole. ;)
