1. It was actually a little more than that. And for a boring Super Bowl (Pitt will win easily and everyone knows it) this stuff is like gold for reporters.

Also, Stevens said a little more than "we are coming to win." He singled out Bettis and Porter, saying that it will be sad to see Bettis leave without a ring and that Porter wont be able to sack Hasselbeck b/c he won't be able to get around Walter Jones.

Bull. This all started when Stevens was asked about Bettis playing in his home town. He said it was nice for him, but it would be sad that he wasn't going to win.

What the hell was he supposed to say? "Yeah, I really hope he can win this one."

And while everyone is taking it way out of proportion, Porter isn't helping matters. He just wants to be the center of attention during SB week. Whatever. I don't have high hopes, but I really hope Pitt loses this game.

  2. If you're looking for a player to drop so that we can make the switch, it's Mario Williams.

While it woudn't be the greatest bunch in the league, we already have 4 solid LB's. Move Spikes inside with Fletcher and let Crowell and Posey (who played pretty well in Houston's 3-4) have the outsides.

Mario Williams and Schoebel would be able to handle the ends.

This still leaves DT, but IF Washington could be brought back in, he and Sam would be okay controlling the NT spot.

I believe with that line-up, and Cotrell running the D, we could successfully make the switch this year.

How possible is it? I think the Washington thing could happen, but no way Mario drops to 8. We would have to trade up to take him, and it just wouldn't be worth it. Not with all the help the O-line needs.

BTW...I LOVE the 3-4! I would love to see this happen if it were possible.

  3. I think Spencer will go early second round...I'm just hoping it's us who takes him. (Unless Gilles is still there, but he should be gone)

Maybe in Anthony in round 3....4 would be better. : )

No, I didn't see the SB. I was working and didn't get a break to watch it.

  4. The Fergeson debate is pointless...he won't be around.

I don't know anything about Smith, but I doubt we go Safety.

I would love to get Spencer, and I'm really hoping be is around for our second pick. But every draft writeup I"ve seen says he will play guard in the NFL. I have a feeling we will just miss out on him.

  5. Why tag him?  Just sign him.  He lost millions in value last year by playing CB like Chris Watson, Punt Catcher.

Sign him to a 4 year 17 million or something like that.

Or, threaten to franchise him and work out a trade, like they did with Peerless.  They can probably wrangle a 2nd for him.  Or a 3rd, if the trading partner has videos of last season.  Or a 7th if they have the Miami game.

He is a pro bowl alternate. Whether he got there by "name" or not, his stock wasn't hurt THAT much.

  6. Rd 01 -- OT D'Brickshaw Ferguson (Virginia)

Rd 02 -- DT Gabe Watson (Michigan)

Rd 03 -- OG Charles Spencer (Pittsburgh)

Rd 03 -- CB Cedric Griffin (Texas)

    Looking at your sig...

Will other teams be drafting, or just the Bills?

  7. Actually, give Bills fans proven quality and they fall all over themselves to praise it.  If the Bills were ever able to hire a guy like Parcells or another top coach, there would be a parade.  This junk about Bills fans being too negative and criticizing every move is directly related to the Bills making one bad decision after another.

The truth is, Levy/Jauron/Fairchild are not exceptional hires.  They should be viewed skeptically.  Gregg Williams and Mularkey came in and a lot of bluster was made by management about how good these guys were under the surface, and they proved to be exactly as they actually were ON the surface......inexperienced and overmatched.  On the surface, Levy is inexperienced and very old for a GM,  Jauron is a proven loser and Fairchild is inexperienced and DARE I SAY.....likely overmatched against Belichick and Saban's defenses?  Forgive us for being realistic.

This ain't the NFC Norris, you can't march Dick Jauron in here and expect him to beat the best.  And no, Dick Jauron is not the next Bill Belichick.  Belichick got a second chance because he was an absolutely DOMINANT defensive coordinator.  Dick Jauron is just a guy who was an unsuccessful HC before and was a decent coordinator/assistant.  If he's the next Marv Levy, he'll just get his asss handed to him because he won't have Kelly/Bruce/Thurman and co. and he won't be coaching against Rich Kotite, Ron Meyer, Dick McPherson or Bruce Coslett.

My point wasn't so much that everyone would critize everything that happens, but there are ALWAYS people who will critize, no matter what is done. If Parcells was hired, there would be a handful of people who would be shouting about the new found Belichick stat.

As for what you say about Jauron, I agree that fans have every right to be skeptical of the hire, but the way people are acting right now is insane. The biggest problem I have is that everyone seems to be comparing him the the "Great Sherman of Green Bay", but I just don't see what all the excitement was about with him. Yes, his record was better, but it is very hard to honestly compare the two situations that they were in.

And while other teams weren't clamoring to get to Jauron, there was no line for Sherman either.

Unlike most here, I do not think we "settled" for Jauron. I truly do believe that he was hired because Marv/Ralph believe he can get the job done. Now whether he can or not is truly up in the air, but I just can't stand the comparisons to Sherman.

And looking around the league, there were no "great" hires this off-season. The coaches simply were not out there. Really, the only HC hiring this season that I think is better than ours is Kubiak in Houston, and that is nothing more than my opinion.

I don't have a problem with people being "realistic", so no forgiveness needed.

  8. I pray he takes the job. . . he did a good job in GB and Miami. In GB, the defense was putrid the year before he got there, and very solid this past year. He is a good one that everyone should be happy with. I predict that, if hired, Bates hiring will be the first around here this month that doesn't get a bunch of negative posts.

    B-):w00t::lol:

You think there is something that can be done on OBD that won't get a bunch of negative posts?????

  9. I had a feeling that since Sherman was the GM and HC of the Pack, he'd want that kind of power again.  And it makes sense that something happened over the weekend that made the Bills finally choose Jauron.  As for part ownership, that was on ESPN or some other website.

    584009

The only place that was ever seen was right here on TBD. Soprano said it when Jaraun got into town. As far as anyone knows, Sherman was never in the lead for the job and never negotiated anything.

  10. For the right money I would do it.....

I still wouldn\'t stop bringing in talent for the defensive line......

    582443

I would still bring in Ngata. Sam and Ted on Running downs, Sam and Ngata on Passing downs. Whoo....that would be hell on O-lines. Schobel would love it too!
