1. One could also make the argument that a better threat at receiving TE could make the difference. Royal showed some signs but he also showed a critical mental lapse in the Tennessee game. Cieslak looked like a tough MFer on his few opportunities. Everett is toast for all I care, looks like complete bust material, and Cieslak's emergence said to me that Neufeld is expendable, unless kept merely for ST. Don't know what the answer is here.

You think? I think Neufeld would have emerged towards the end of the season had he not had to deal with that injury. I'm guessing he's already had surgery and will probably be ready for offseason mini camps and training. I was excited to see what Cieslak could do this year. He's a tough player and showed some sparks. But I wouldn't necessarily like to seem line up as an H-back. He really struggled those last couple games when Shelton was out. Neufeld seems to be the better blocker of the two, and based on what I've seen, a far better special teamers. I was at the Miami game and saw Cieslak out there on kick off - he was the last guy down the field! Really slow. I was a little disappointed that he didn't do better - I was rooting for him.

I think these two will be going at it again during training camp. Both of them won't be on the team, unless the coaches don't see a need for a true fullback on the roster and decide to keep 4 tight ends (could happen). If they don't, Neufeld makes it over Cieslak if he stays healthy. And that's a big "if."

  2. I don't think he'll be the next big thing either, but we did play Jacksonville isn't exactly a "week defense" to quote you above.  :D

I'm sure you can agree that with Jacksonville missing two of its top defenders last week because of injuries, it's defense was definitely weakened.

  3. I don't think Cieslak did anything special - the difference in this game vs. any other is that the coaches finally included the tight ends in the game plan. Neufeld has the only TD catch out of any of our tight ends - I wouldn't say he was a waste of a roster spot. The coaches saw something that made them keep Neufeld over Cieslak (I move I agree with) - no doubt that will be an interesting camp battle between those two again next year.

  4. Royal with cheese has really regressed lately. Can Everitt possibly be worse? He moves better than I thought he would but his suspect hands have really hurt lately.

Ah yes, Cieslak has a four yard catch and he's our savior. His blocking skills are questionable - he totally whiffed one early in the game. Had he been able to cut it, he would've made the team initially instead of Neufeld.

Curiously enough, has Everett seen his last days at TE? First Neufeld replaces him in the line up before he got hurt, and Cieslak was out there instead of Everett. Is he hurt or did the coaches finally get tired of his penalties every week?

  5. Cieslak moves into the picture then.  Based on reports in the offseason and preseason, Cieslak is very physical.  From what I've seen Neufeld is more of the pass catching type.  And, I've not seen him jack anyone up... Losing Nuefeld doesn't seem to me to have much of an effect on anything.

Villarial... well he's on the wrong side of 30.  I think he's most effective when the guys around him are at least his calibre or better.  But... he also seems to not be too durable.

Cieslak ain't squat. The coaches were handing him the #2 spot during the offseason and he quickly worked his way down the depth chart. Neufeld will be a big loss, especially on special teams. He started on just about every unit. And based on the last two games, it looked like Neufeld had actually replaced Everett as the #2. He's definitely a loss.

And with Villarial out, JP better watch his back.

  6. It's probably better for the long term future to get the always-hurt Chris Villarial out of the line up to see if one of the draft picks can fill that role. As for Neufeld, what has he done except get penalties at inopportune times?

Actually, Neufeld will be a big loss. He started on all the special teams units. He's done really well blocking on the wedge. I bet our special teams will suffer without him and Stamer out there. And Neufeld had actually replaced Everett as the #2 tight end. Lord forbid Royal gets hurt - then it's Everett and I'm guessing Cieslak as our tight ends. Scary, very scary.

  7. Shelton got hurt at the end of the second quarter on the last kick off return. He wobbled off the field. Not sure what happened.

Neufeld actually did a pretty decent job as his replacement. Saw him do some good blocking and he got open a couple times - but JP was clearly looking to throw to Evans in triple coverage down the field, so I'm guessing he didn't realize he had guys open.

  8. The oft-injured Neufeld will see time all over the field this season, but isn’t expected to be an impact player.

Oft-injured. What does that mean? He had a knee injury at the end of last season and sat out a week in training camp with a minor foot injury. In the three years he's been here, it's the only time he's missed playing time because of injuries. That's oft-injured?

Daimon Shelton returns as the FB, much to the dismay of many Bills fans. However, Shelton as been a solid blocker over the years, and as long as he’s not used in gimmick plays, or depended on as the primary receiver out of the backfield he should have a solid season.

    True that.

Great assessment. I'm excited to see how things go. I like the notion of the Bills being their own worst enemy. It's true. They've got the talent. Hopefully they can bring it all together and have a solid showing this year.

  9. Includes all those on roster, PS, and IR. Newbies, take note: start learning these names so you can begin bashing incessantly and accumulating TBD credibility.

    10. Kevin Everett

    9. Ryan Neufeld

    8. Joe Burns

    7. Nate Clements

    6. Josh Reed

    5. Chris Villarial

    4. Daimon Shelton

    3. Troy Vincent

    2. Kelly Holcomb

    1. Coy Wire

Don't stop bashing these guys. Don't EVER stop. Beat these dead horses until they're bleeding from the ears. Beat them like you do your d!ck as you masturbate to young women dancing on youtube videos. Beat them like Liam Ezekiel beat Miro.

But you'd be the first one pissing in your pants asking for an autograph if you ran into one of them...

  10. TE - keep 3. Numbers game mostly gets Neufeld cut.

    84 Royal, Robert

    88 Neufeld, Ryan CUT

    86 Cieslak, Brad

    85 Everett, Kevin

If it's strictly a numbers game, Cieslak's gone. He can be on the practice squad. And Neufeld managed to show his versatility in the game Thursday with all the back up FBs out with injuries. Neufeld stays, Cieslak goes.

  11. I would agree with this. Nuefield has been here to long and makes me get into a murderous mood whenever he steps on the field.

The original poster had Wilson being released but i would say that out of the remaining guys on the bubble; Wilson will make the team after his performance this past weekend and Fast Fred gets released with final cuts.

Ricard also stays as well IMO.

    756606

Well, it looks like he's going to stick around. Cieslak got a ton of pub during the offseason but faltered once he got pads on. Neufeld continues to start on special teams. The third TE is going to be a special teams contributor, so it appears that Neufeld will again be on the team.

  12. Yesterday they had Williams ahead of Anderson. I also noticed they now have Ellison ahead of Stamer, and Everett ahead of Neufeld, but Holcomb still ahead of Nall.

    754297

Stamer's situation will be an interesting one. With the signing of Odom last week, and now this, it doesn't look good.

The Neufeld-Everett move isn't surprising. Even when Neufeld moved up the depth chart a couple weeks ago, it still looked like Everett was going in as the #2. And with Neufeld out all last week, his slipping isn't a surprise. What's more interesting is that Cieslak is still in that 4th spot. Looks like he's headed to the PS.
