  1. I like the very treatable and curable comment. Seems, semi-postive, no?

    edit: here's the link http://wivb.com/2014...gery-postponed/

Unfortunately, you are missing the word "potentially" in front of curable. I take that as doctor speak for it being a long shot. Doctors will treat you right up until the day you die or go to hospice, cure is not always the intended outcome from treatment. I hope to heck Jim's cancer responds favorably to treatment and he makes it. If prayers and good will count for anything, he'll get there.

  2. I tend to agree. Wondering why there was no chemo and radiation after the 1st surgery. This is so sad.

It's easy to second guess the decision not to pursue further treatment the first time, but the doctors were following established care protocols. Chances were probably very good that Jim's first surgery was going to be all he needed, so why would they risk complications that can arise from treatments such as chemo and rads. My wife had cancer and was cured with chemo alone. Standard practice for her cancer up until the year she was treated involved rads after chemo. Her oncologist said rads were no longer standard care because chemo alone was so effective and it wasn't worth the risk of other things that could happen if she had rads. She's going on 10 years cancer free now, in hindsight it appears her oncologist was right and now she lives with much less fear of other cancers related to rads.

  3. My understanding of cancer surgery is that it is typically done to resect as much of the cancer as possible so that any other treatment provided has an increased chance of success. Apparently the doctors don't see a risk vs. reward benefit to any further surgery and will move directly to other treatments.

In some cases, resection alone may remove all cancer cells and therefore further treatments are not pursued. This is apparently what happened with Jim's first surgery. I've also seen this approach taken with early stage breast cancer when limited to one or two masses and when tissue margins from the surgery are zero (lumpectomy) and with non-metastatic kidney cancer where removal of the kidney alone is considered a cure most of the time.

  4. Something that's been on my mind with all the talk of Jim Kelly being a fighter... Both my parents died from cancer a couple of years ago. My Dad had a huge will to live. He took every surgery and treatment they would give him, regardless of side effects, recovery time and pain. He extended his prognosis of 6 months to 18 months. Ultimately he was told by a team of doctors there was nothing else they could do. He passed away within 4 days of that moment. My Mom accepted chemo and was in remission for several months. When her cancer came back it was aggressive and she knew there was no cure. Instead of fighting for every last moment of life, she fought for every last moment of quality time she could have with the family without the haze from side effects from treatment.

Two diametrically opposite approaches, both were fighters in their own unique ways, both succeeded in achieving their final goals.

I have no idea what the prognosis is for Jim. I just hope everyone understands that "fighting" comes in different forms and whatever path he takes under the circumstances is a personal decision. It's a matter of "what" he is fighting for, not "if". I know he will be fighting like a warrior in whatever fight he chooses. I pray that there is a viable path that leads to a cure, but understand with cancer that's not always the case.

  5. He attended a wedding reception I was at around 10 years ago. Most everyone was respectful of his privacy. At the end of the night, as I was on my way to help loading gifts into the bride and groom's van, I passed him carrying an arm load of gifts to the van. Most guests left -- and there was nothing wrong with that -- but it said something about Jim that he was one of the few who stayed and helped out.

  6. Four of the top defenses in the league this year. 3-4 wins and things get very interesting. 2 wins and we're still alive. 0-1 win and the season's over. Our O-Coordinator needs to show he is a pro caliber strategist now, the kid gloves are off. The defensive line needs to achieve consistency in pressuring the QB. I believe we have to talent to win 3 of these games.

  7. Yea this one. I think their coach was fired the next day if I remember correctly.

Yes, and Kosar was sat for this game. Seemed like there were 20,000 Bills fans there. The Browns fans emptied out at halftime and it became a home game for the Bills in the second half. I was in the dawg pound and at one point noticed security hoofing down the field toward us. Turns out an old Browns fan sitting behind me was running a F___ Buffalo shirt up the flag pole. Funny as hell, and of course he was evicted. Also remember the temperature dropped about 20 degrees before the game and we were forced to put our Bills sweatshirts/jackets on. It did not go over well in the dawg pound...

  8. The problems I see with the offensive play calling are: (a) it doesn't put our players in their best chance for success, e.g., nothing creative to get the ball to CJ in space; (b) it's not giving EJ enough simple throws to grow his confidence, e.g., Alex Smith and KC offense; © it's too predictable, e.g., called all passes the last three possessions allowing NYJ defense to tee off. Hackett is out of his league right now, this is a horrible way to break in our new franchise QB.

  9. Home division game against the best team in our division. If your best QB is healthy enough to play you play him. PERIOD. Division games are too valuable. To suggest you sit him no matter what, suggest that we throw in the towel on season before a regular season snap even occurred. I'm not down with that at all.

I think this season will have surpassed most people's expectations if a week 1 loss to the Patriots is the difference in making the playoffs or not. I don't know how one can consider starting Tuel if there are still health concerns with Manuel "throwing in the towel on season".

  10. Theisman had one good point during the telecast, which was if the Bills are going to run an uptempo offense, they better get first downs, otherwise their defense will be on the field most of the game.

This has been discussed since the Cincinnati Bengals started a form of the hurry up offense in the 80s, was talked about when the Bills ran the KGun, is mentioned in almost every game I watch where a team runs an up tempo offense. I wouldn't give him credit for parroting something so obvious.

  11. If you allow yourself to believe in this team and coaching staff, you'll drop the day-to-day/possession-to-possession analysis, accept they are not playoff talent right now, accept that another loss to the Pats won't ruin the season, and hopefully watch a strong team emerge due to being managed in the bigger picture. Then, the playoffs might actually become possible with a late season run.

  12. This team is way too young to make Game 2 of preseason a litmus test. My litmus test is the record over the first four games of the season versus the last four games. I expect the record over the first 4 games will be 1-3, possibly 2-2. If this team is truly showing promise for the future, the record over the last 4 games will be 3-1, possibly 4-0 (barring unforseen circumstances such as injuries, etc.).

  13. 14 and a pair of 12's. Yeah they are young and far from experts but have been going to camp for years.

They tend to focus on QBs and noticed Fitz's bad delivery before most.

Take it for what its worth :)

Oh and they like the Bills QB situation this year for the first time in their lives ;)

Old enough to know, young enough to not have an agenda. I'll trust their assessment.

  14. I hope the guy is OK, but please stop with the "he is the greatest" comments. If you were unlucky enough to run into "Jimbo" at a bar in his playing days you would realize how much of a jerk he was. His post career has been a complete mess. Take a look at the success of other past QBs that were his contemporaries. Obviously Marino and Elway had more brains than Jimbo. His whole ownership thing with the Bills is a complete joke. Hope the best for his health, but please just fade away and find something to do other than the Bills. Bruce Smith did it right-just go away.

The only time I have been around Jim Kelly was at a wedding reception a few years ago. The guests were very respectful of his privacy and only a few people approached him the whole night. At the end of the evening I crossed paths with him -- as we were both helping to carry wedding presents to the bride's and groom's van. Seemed like a very nice guy, especially considering the groom was a friend of his brothers and he still made time to attend. Personally, I'll never tire of seeing him involved with the Bills.

  15. Yes. Absolutely.

So you would rather have a college QB with 2 wins in a weak conference, than a pro QB that brought a team to the playoffs and won a playoff game. Seriously, read the scouting report on Tuel -- slow, weak arm, doesn't make progressions. I guess chronic losing makes some fans habitual.
  16. Can't have it both ways, Mitch. Can't have Tebow here AND be the best QB.. I'm 57 and a physical wreck. I'm better at QB than Tebow and I ain't coming to practice.

Word out of NYJ was that Tebow dropped 15 pounds and was living at the practice facility. I could care less who our QB is -- I'm not married to EJ, Kolb, TJ, or anyone else. I just want the best person we can get for 2013 because I think there is a lot of talent on offense now. I agree he largely sucked the game he played in Buffalo as a Bronco, it's more of a philosophical argument than practical. I just don't see that it would do any harm for Tebow to be at the training camp of a handful of teams that are unsettled at QB. If he still sucks then cut him. Some people are excited about Buffalo signing UDFA Tuel -- do you really think this kid is better than Tebow? If not then why not have the better option in camp.

  17. @ProFootballTalk

Jaguars still aren't interested in Tebow http://wp.me/p14QSB-8zDP

JAX drafted Denard Robinson, a college QB who entered the draft as a WR and who JAX announced as a RB when they drafted him. Seems to me if Tebow were flexible as to which position he plays, it would have been easy for him to land in JAX -- he would certainly sell more tickets than Denard will. That said, if Tebow wants to try out for the Bills starting job ... have at it. I want the best QB we can get lined up under center and if he proves that is him this year then so be it. Buffalo wouldn't be the media circus that NYJ and DEN were, heck TO was a saint the year he was here.

  18. The two plays were not the same, both were interpreted properly. Brady's arm was still in motion when the ball came out. Manning's arm motion was completed and he had gathered the ball into his body. Anytime you're siding with Dan Dierdorf, you really need to reconsider your position.
