  1. First Buddy Nix, and then Whaley, brought back real scouting to this organization.

I remember the crap show of Tom Donahoe, Tom Modrak, Marv Levy and Russ "Aaron Maybin" Brandon. This team now has so much obvious talent, the Patriots (THE PATRIOTS) are snatching our players for crying out loud.

I don't know what kind of internal shenanigans Whaley had to deal with, but the bitter crew of Buffalo certainly didn't help...that crew being the Debbie Downers that live there, Buffalo sports media, etc.

In case people forget, before the Hughes/Sheppard trade, NFL teams almost never did player-for-player trades. It was a huge news story when it happened. And the roster wouldn't have had as much turn over if we didn't switch coaches and schemes every few years.

So, thank you Doug Whaley. The difference you made to the quality of players here was HUGE. I only hope the Pegulas and McD build on our talent level by getting a promising GM candidate who is known for being able to spot talent.

Good luck. Wishing you the best.

  2. Has to be the Bills...Whaley is the King of reaches and he knows a QB is the only position that could extend his employment...this is why he constantly makes poor draft decisions...his choices are always for the wrong reasons...

Dude. Whaley is the King of Reaches?

His draft choices are way better than the Bills have historically been. You must be like 12, because no one could write that if they were around to witness Modrak, Levy and Russ "Aaron Maybin" Brandon.

I mean seriously, some of you guys out there SMH...

  3.

DW has built a top heavy roster with major holes at WR, CB, RT and possibly LB. Whaley has sold out the last few years by putting the Bills to the cap and trading up in drafts only to get to .500. His cap management is atrocious. His drafts have been mediocre at best, has trouble getting along with coaches, and lacks leadership and communication skills. Compared to Marv Levy and Russ Brandon, DW looks pretty good, but that is setting the bar low. Whaley is a good scout especially on the defensive side of the ball, but is simply overmatched as a GM. Pegula should have made a change when Rex was fired.

People are never happy. When Ralph was owner, people complained we didn't spend money. Now cap management is atrocious. Overdorf used to be the scapegoat. Now you're blaming Whaley.

2013 draft comments crack me up. We got LeSean McCoy for Kiko. EJ didn't pan out. Most QB's don't. Seeing Robert Woods go is sad, but we haven't seen who the replacement will be yet. Marquis is a FA who hopefully we'll end up positive for a comp pick if we sign less than we lose. Meeks and Duke WIlliams contributed for a number of years. Chriss Gragg was a 7th rounder who was our #2 TE until he got hurt. We just had a coaching change (again). You can't put all that crap on WHaley. Oi. Some of you [people need to move out of Buffalo and get some warmer weather. I think it's starting to make some of you folk miserable.

  4. Whaley is fantastic. I don't know what all you people are whining about. For two years in a row, the Patriots signed away one of our players. That should tell you something.

Failure to address QB? Half the damn teams in the NFL have a QB problem. Finding a franchise QB isn't easy, and we now have Tyrod. Yeah, EJ didn't pan out. But we got an extra draft pick for moving back.

Buddy should have drafted Russell Wilson, but didn't. That's been the biggest mistake in recent years.

The talent level on this team is so much better than it has been. Our FA signings have been pretty damn good. And out drafting has gotten better. Not perfect, but we have a lot of talent. Now we just need to win.

  5. - It was hot as balls out there today, and the sun was brutal. You just don't get that kind of desert weather in the North East. And, the LA Memorial Coliseum sucks! It's ugly, and hot, and brutal. There wasn't a whisper of a breeze until the second half, and the place was a bowl of hot breath.

Dude, it was hot...but that's not even nearly as hot as some places in LA. Try spending some time in Woodland Hills in August lol.

Yes, the Coliseum is ugly and not great...but it's also historic. I had fun there today. It was my first time in the stadium...been outside of it plenty. But the new Inglewood stadium looks amazing. Can't wait until 2019.

Went all the way to London last year to watch the Bills lose. Took the Metro light rail about 30 minutes to the Bills game. Much better ending. Was in row 12 right by the end zone for a perfect view of the Justin Hunter TD. Can't believe Tyrod survived in the pocket that long.

  6. I think the Bills value Gilmore a lot.

I personally like Gilmore, I think he's a nice player.......that said, I don't think he's a stud. If we were able to get him for $11-$12M per I'd be happy to retain his services. The problem is I think he and his agent know they can command a lot more than that on the open market and they are probably right.

Josh Norman just signed a 5 year - $75M deal ($15M per). What's even scarier is he gets $20M in year 1, & $17M in Year 2 of that deal. $37M in the first 2 years is obscene. I think that deal is going to create quite a divide between the Bills and Gilmore because Gilmore probably views himself as better than Norman and the Bills probably have no intentions of spending that type of loot on Gilmore.

In the end the Bills will want to keep Gilmore's contract as close to Janoris Jenkins contract, which was just signed with the Giants for 5 years - $62.5M ($12.5M/per). Gilmore's camp will anchor in at Revis/Patrick Peterson money which is roughly $14M per year. The compromise will probably be in the $13M per year neighborhood, perhaps with some incentives that can push it to $14M per, so the agent can publicize an inflated deal to the press.

It's a lot of money, but in year or 2 it'll probably look a lot better as the cap continues to rise.

What's the tag for a cornerback? It's $13.05 million in 2015/16. So, they have an option of paying him 2 million less than $15. I think the Bills have some room to negotiate.

  7. Ray Lewis was (is?) much faster than Ragland. Lewis ran like a mid 4.5 forty IIRC. I think a better Ray Lewis comp is Patrick Willis.

I like Ragland, don't get me wrong. He has great instincts. And most of his power comes from his legs. He can still put on weight on his upper body, but that boy can hit. Holy Moley.

There is no perfect Madden-type linebacker. But Ragland has skills.

  8. Whaley has been pretty phenomenal with his LB picks so I'll believe him...honestly he is turning into one of the best drafters we've had in a long time...dude hits homeruns every draft it seems

People on the Internet say Ragland is only a two down LB with no pass coverage skills. Whaley said he is a 3 down backer who can cover.

People on the Internet said Cordy Glenn was only a guard. Nix/Whaley said "Hell no he's not a guard."

I trust Whaley over silly people on the Internet.

  9. Ive seen some tape. He is great at tracking the ball in the air and positioning himself to make the catch with ridiculous speed. Hes Goodwin 2.0...actually nah he is an upgrade cuz hes bigger, more muscle and less injury prone. I bet he makes WR3 this year and takes the top off the defense for a few TDs when teams double sammy too much. Putting Listenbee and Sammy on the same side and have one run a go route and the other a comeback or post or drag route is gonna burn opposing teams secondarys mark my words. If they are both healthy and Tyrod progresses its gonna be fun to watch.

That's an interesting idea. Putting both Sammy and Listenbee on the same side where one runs a go. Except, who's gonna run the go? I like it :)

  10. I think this is Whaleys best draft ON PAPER. Because ON PAPER We out drafted everyone in the AFC East easily. We got 3 day one starters with Shaq OLB/DE, Reggie ILB, and Listenbee (WR3), 2 stud depth players in Adolphus Washington at DT (to replace Kyle eventually), and the best Williams available pick at RB we took in the 5th that had a 3rd round grade (we are a running team, now we have 4 capable RBs, 3 young with upside that are not named Bryce Brown and Boom Heron), a developmental boom or bust QB that could be Cam 2.0 or clip holder 2.0, and a CB that had a 1st round grade before the season started until the shenanigans at USC kinda shaded him in the media. We filled every whole our defense had except for Saftey. Listenbee has less of a chance of getting inJured then Goodwin bc he has more weight and is a little taller. Listenbee is great to have bc even though he has to work on his route tree, he kills people on the Go route and thats gonna take a safety off Watkins after one of TTs long bombs to Listenbee burns them for a TD. I am pleased with this draft even though S and RT went un-addressed. ON PAPER it was a great draft and we did better then the rest of the AFCE. As we all know games arent played on paper so its gonna be a nice long 3 months before **** gets real.

    ^^THIS

Very good draft. Wouldvr preferred Billings over Washington bc we need a nose but I'm very happy with it.

    Interesting quote from Rex (paraphrased):

"We're gonna run a 5-2 like I did in Baltimore and when I was first with the Jets. Shaq is on the outside and Jerry will be opposite. But in the middle, you'll have Marcell, Kyle and Corbin/Adolphus. But where will they be? Who knows. And the offense won't know either. We won't be predictable like we were last year when you knew who the SAM was every down and other things."

So, we didn't want a nose because we're not running a 3-4 base...which is news to many of us.

  11. People that hate on Doug Whaley honestly baffle me. Remember Tom Donahoe? Marv Levy and freakin' Russ "I'm gonna draft Aaron Maybin" Brandon? Hearing Tom Modrak talk about mediocre talent?

Doug Whaley flipped Kelvin Sheppard for Jerry Hughes.

Doug Whaley flipped Kiko Alonso for Shady McCoy.

He signed FA Tyrod Taylor, who under Greg Roman's tutelage is the best QB we've had since Kelly (obviously TT still can improve in a number of areas). But TT did go to the Pro Bowl. When's the last time a Bills QB did that?

Since Buddy and Doug got here, the talent on this team is significantly better. We were 4-2 in the division. Other teams are signing our players (Bradham, Brooks, etc). And people who rely on one metric (DW is 17-15 as a GM) ignore all the details that going into running a franchise. People seem to think David Caldwell and the Jags are significantly better, but if you only take their record into account under Calwell he's a terrible GM, since the Jags are only 12-36 under his watch.

So after this draft, we got two 1st round talnets. Many thought Shaq Lawson would be gone at 19 and some wanted Ragland with our 19th pick. With a GM like Whaley on board, I trust Buffalo to make smart decisions while other teams make dumb ones (Like drafting a kicker in the 2nd). He lets the draft fall to us, and if there is huge value on the board, he's not afraid to move up and get it (Ragland).

  12. I have only one thought about this pick:

    YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES

  13. Wrong thread for this so this will be my last comment here but Rex took him from promising to the lowest graded LB in the league then mocked him for being timid and dumb. Now they draft a guy in the same position. You don't have to be a psychic. Brown seems like a good dude and I hope he does well wherever he ends up.

Except Whaley said Preston Brown will play the MIKE and Ragland will play the WILL.

Now, where's that guy who was complaining about trading up to 41 who had Ragland at 19 in his mock draft? ROFL!
