  1. Worst snow storm I or probably anyone alive remembers in Buffalo was caused by a early freeze up that allowed many feet of soft fluffy snow to built up on the ice. Then the storm blew it into Buffalo all at once

77 I get it. Year to year though, most of Buffalo's big snows come from an unfrozen Lake Erie. 2001, 81.5 inches in a four day late Dec stretch. The October storm of 2006...just sayn.

  2. Here is the 7-day forecast by Ch 4 here in Buffalo: http://www.wivb.com/weather/forecast Don Paul is usually on the money with his forecasts. 42 is right around normal for this time of year. Above agerage temps have been happening the last 2 months. The other stations are all saying basically the same thing, no rain and chilly. This time of year there is a good chance of a good breeze off the lake. A breeze of 15mph will bring the real feel of the temperature down to freezing (32F) We dress warm in layers and wear a hat because even in October that sun can get hot on the noggin. Most people around us in past years also packed gloves. Wife wore hers with temps like this, me not so much, kids (3-12) always yes. Definitely not a place for babies or even 1 or 2 year olds in windy freezing temps for 4 hours I have been at games in RWS since they opened the place where the actual feel temps (chill factor) have dropped more than 25 degrees by the end of the game. One late fall game against Miami the temps were cool. It started snowing in the 3rd quarter and out of no-where became a full blown blizzard by games end. Winter doesn't officially start unti December 21. We get our worst snows when the lake is frozen, so all these above agerage temp will help delay freezing of lake Erie. There have been years when if didn't freeze over completely.. Then we get ice storms, Ice and trees don't mix and combined with the shake, rattle and roll of the wind can quickly cause widespread poweroutages.....for weeks

Correct me if I'm wrong but the worst snowstorms in Buffalo are caused from an unfrozen Lake Erie which generates Lake effect snows.

  3. There was a case here in the past week where a mother left her kid (2 years old or so, I don't recall exactly) in the car while she went to work. Kid died from the heat of course. The kicker was that the kid was in the car because she apparently drops the kid off at day care on her way to work...but she was running late that day, and forgot the kid was in the car...

But the REAL kicker was: it was the second time she'd done that. The first time was in the early spring, so the kid wasn't hurt, and the cops just cited her for endangerment and left it at that... :wallbash:

She has been indicted on felony murder and child neglect.

  4. All it will take is a simple call to "customer retention" and you'll get a minimum of $100 knocked off. Happens every year. At least for me, nothing beats watching at home or on my mobile device of choice.

I got that, I do the same thing year in and year out....very familiar w/ customer retention....I am sure they recognize me by name as I am always calling for discounts....in fact, I was able to get CI Race to the Cup for $9.....at the end of the day, it's still a $24 increase.

  5. Yesterday I received this email from DirecTV:

Your NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ subscription is set to automatically renew for the 2011 season. Due to the NFL's uncertain labor situation, DIRECTV is offering all subscribers a no-risk policy. There will be absolutely no charge for your NFL SUNDAY TICKET subscription until it is confirmed that the 2011 NFL season will begin. What happens with your NFL SUNDAY TICKET subscription during the dispute?

A balance of $0.00 will show for the NFL SUNDAY TICKET portion of your bill

Once an agreement is reached, your subscription will renew for six easy payments of $53.99 each, plus five monthly payments of $9.99 each for NFL SUNDAY TICKET To-Go.

They quietly inserted a $24 rate increase over last year. Almost getting to the tipping point of just going to my local watering hole to watch the games.

  6. ...he finds out his wife has been in a bad car accident. He rushes to the hospital in a frantic and emotional state having no idea what her condition is or what to expect. The doctor approaches him in the waiting area and says:

DOCTOR: "Look...it's always tough to say this....I've got bad news, it was a VERY bad accident. I'm so sorry but your wife will be crippled from the neck down. You'll have to feed her. You'll have to bath her. You'll have to clear out every passage for her. You'll even have to change her because she has no control over her bladder or bowels."

MAN : (crying hysterically) "THIS IS TERRIBLE"

DOCTOR: "I'm just ****ing with you she's dead."

    <_<

Ehh, I like the way it's told to Peter in Family Guy much better...

  7. Not sure if any of you guys saw it, but the Donald was roasted on comedy central tonight...I missed the first part, but the hour of it I did see was VERY funny! This one guy, Anthony Jeselnik, I have never heard of in my life....but he killed it!

If you guys get a chance to see it, check it out...some great Trump humor!!!

That was a great roast...One of the best lines of the night was Marlee Matlin through her signer, "Much like the Situation, I too have never heard the sound of laughter."

  8. This is possible. They said last night that Carolina's owner really likes Clausen and is happy w him for now and wouldn't spend the #1 on another QB. They also said that Elway is a huge Tebow guy and now that he has his position in Denver, the only thing from Stanford he wants is Harbaugh. This would leave Luck there at number 3 for Buffalo, so the Bills could go ahead and draft another DB.

  9. Fitz is a good fit right now. I don't see him as the long term solution though. I believe we need Andrew Luck. I believe him to be the answer at QB, but I don't think he's coming out and with the uncertainy of the 2011 season, I don't think it will happen. That being said. If He comes out you get him, if he doesn't go with Fitz and build your TRENCHES UP!!!!

Luck is not the answer, especially if Pete King is talking good about him.

  10. bah, cant watch. almost posted that yesterday but didnt know if the folks in this thread could handle it.

it's quite the tear-jerker, but it is truly a beautiful short film.

won a bunch of awards too.

good luck to whoever watches it. it's a tough one to get through, but worth it.

Can't bring myself to watch it

  11. First off, let me say how sorry I am that you have to go through this. To stay or not during the euthanasia process is strictly a personal decision and you should do what you think is best. On one hand, being there likely alleviates any fears your pet may have, on the other, watching your pet take his last breath leaves a burning image.
