  1. I hope I wasn't the only one who noticed the disaster of a makeup job on Todd McShay's face tonight. He was interviewed live on the 11pm SportsCenter and his face looked similar to a giant slice of cheddar jack cheese. His makeup artist better start checking the classifieds and immediately find a new craft. Sorry for the extremely irrelevant post, but I feel as though it was quite karma-like as a douche looks like a total idiot in front of a national audience.

  2. After having a draft class comprised mostly of college seniors, hiring Doug Whaley and later Dave Wandstedt, and signing Shawne Merriman, I have realized that wily old Buddy Nix and company are slowly, but surely changing the atmosphere and culture of our beloved Buffalo Bills.

As soon as Gailey had the Bills remove the televisions from their weight room, I knew he meant business. In just one swift off-season and a quick 4-12 campaign, the signs of a culture shift are gathering. There are now heavily padded training camps, the head coach is nearly brutally honest about players when asked, and players are willing to go all out when their name is called.

As a result of this, I feel like a storm of winning football is brewing in the Bills’ locker room, but that place -the locker room- is still missing a couple of key links… Some nasty, never stop, hard working, and talented leaders that the entire team respects and would rally around. I’m not going to act like I know any of the Bills players personally, so I cannot really judge any of them as leaders, but I’m going to guess that when a group of 54 men who spend the majority of their time together are lead by the likes of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Fred Jackson, Lee Evans, Eric Wood, Chris Kelsay, Paul Posluszny, and George Wilson, I would not be surprised that the group sees fleeting success. For that reason, I feel like Shawne Merriman may have been a step in the right direction, but I believe Bob Sanders could be exactly what the Bills need in this department.

If Sanders stays healthy for a decent portion of the year and we see glimpses of his brilliant play, then I think he would help the team leaps and bounds. Sanders' tremendous play and intensity will have been enough to captivate his teammates to the point where most players highly respect the former Pro Bowl safety. With that said, Sanders has great tools in his leadership arsenal: he is tough as nails (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3088621), he’s a veteran that could surely teach every safety on the roster a thing or two, he's got the heart of four lions, and he’s been on a perennially winning team that has even won a Super Bowl.

  3. on ESPN first take and a recent Mort tweet:

Corners like Darelle Revis always cite Bills' Lee Evans as one of toughest WRs to cover; Revis just did so on First Take. Evans needs help

    Still wanna trade him?

Mort may have been taking that out of context. The First Take guys asked Revis if he could rank the #1 receivers in the AFC east as to who is the toughest to cover and Revis replied with 1.) Moss 2.) Marshall 3.) Evans.

  4. Successful stints as OC in 3 cities, plus HC experience. Teams are always in the playoffs.

Yep, for a team whose offensive is a complete disaster, this is the worst hire ever. :wallbash:

I'll wait to I see who they hire for OC & DC before judgement.

I agree with what KD in CT and erynthered said. Buddy Nix discussed that the coaches are key in developing players, so if they Bills hire solid coordinators this could be a decent hire.

  5. Just asked friends at the game if they booed Ralph Wilson, they said there was no Hall of Fame ceremony for him.

Can somebody confirm it was cancelled???

Yes, I heard it was cancelled too. Here is what Pat Moran had to say about it:

"Patrick Moran: From what I hear it was ugly, and I don't have confirmation, but I'm told there was no Ralph Wilson ceremony at halftime, I'm trying to find out more "

Maybe he was telling Dick Jauron that he has 1 more half to prove that he is capable of being the Bills head coach.

  6. UB was cruising 17-7 about to put up another 7 when they threw an INT. And it was all down hill from there. 5 UB turnovers vs none for UCF. The Bulls are now 1-2 heading into Temple next Saturday.

    PTR

Yea, I go to UCF, so I was at the game, and I must say that UB is not very good this year. Zach Maynard was highly inaccurate and most of his completions were just screens (especially to Roosevelt Naaman, he's quick). Although it was awesome to walk around the stadium and see a load of bills fans!!

  7. The key to beating N.E. is by getting into the head of Tom Brady. This is how the New York Giants beat N.E. in the Super Bowl—By sacking and harassing Brady early in the game Brady goes from great to just good. The Bills must throw caution to the wind and blitz early and often.

The Bills should just keep pounding T.Lady tonight. His backup is some rookie from Michigan State.

Here's to either one of the Aaron's knocking Tom Lady out tonight!

  8. “He’s very athletic,” said Bills offensive line coach Sean Kugler. “He has the ability to recover when he is out of position. He’s a competitive kid, and he works at it. He loves the game of football, and those are the guys we’re moving forward with.”

If this is the attitude they are looking for in their players, then I am all for it. :pirate:

I think it can be safely said, based on their comments and actions in the past that Dockery, Peters and Walker are big guys that happen to be good at football, but do not LOVE to play it. I think to really excel at this sport it is important to really care about it. Think about the players on the winning teams, and their passion for the game and winning.

This has the potential to be a long year, if only because DJ is still the head coach, but I like the players we are moving forward with.

Now that is good to see. It seems as though the Bills' draft class this year has an immense passion for football. Actually, the only Bill I can think of off the top of my head who does not love football is Aaron Schobel. I remember reading somewhere that he milks his injuries so he can miss practice and that he just wants to play until his contract is up and then he's done.

  9. Agree with your assessment. It will take the first half of the season for them to find their way. Hopefully Edwards will be around for the second half...

Yes, Trent Edwards, to me, is the x-factor of this season. If he stumbles out of the gate and gets hurt, then we are left wondering who we are going to have at quarterback from 2010 and beyond. The Bills now have a pretty solid foundation with a lot of young guys to build off of, but if Edwards doesn't improve or even prove he is competent in this league, this will once again set the Bills back for years.

  10. Are the Bills poised to make a change at left tackle? The answer could depend on the health of Demetrius Bell.

Langston Walker was anointed the starter during the offseason, but Bell’s rapid development has led to rumors of a split among the coaches over which player should play left tackle in the Sept. 14 opener at New England.

The plan was to have both players share snaps with the starters last week at Pittsburgh before a back injury sidelined Bell. Coach Dick Jauron said a change at left tackle is unlikely but wouldn’t rule it out.

The Bills chose Bell in the seventh round last year, thinking he was an intriguing developmental prospect. But he surprised the coaches by making big strides this summer.

He’s a better athlete than Walker, but because Bell never has played a down in a regular-season game a change at this hour is risky. If Walker struggles early this season, Bell could take the job.

Also, Clifton Brown of the Sporting News gave 4 mid-to-late round gems entering the 2008 NFL draft, and the #1 guy on that list, none other than Demetrius Bell. Here is what he had to say:

He is a project but an extremely talented one. Bell was recruited as a basketball player and didn't play organized football until 2005. He won't go until at least Round 5. But he's 6-5, 303, and his athletic ability jumps off the videotape. Draft him, give him two years to develop, put him at left tackle and your quarterback's blind side will be safe for 10 years.

All in all, the Bills offensive line is now young; almost young enough to have Michael Jackson aroused (is this too early?), with the average age of a starter at 25 years. Russ Brandon is not an idiot either. He did not cut Langston Walker to save money. Why on earth would a guy battling for his job release players for monetary reasons when his club has loads of cap room? This year may be a roller coaster ride for our offensive line, and Trent should invest in some heavier pads. But this is a talented, hard nosed line, that could be absolutely solid for years to come.

  11. I will be going off to college in a few days, but I will not be bringing a tv along with me. I do not plan on watching much television, but I would still like to catch a few of my favorite shows from time to time. With that said, I have been looking for ways to watch television from my laptop. I eventually stumbled upon isoftwaretv (http://www.isoftwaretv.com/index.asp?revid=killjoy99). So far I have not read any bad reviews about it. Has anybody ever tried this program or any other way to watch television from the computer? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

  12. So, I signed Brett Favre the day before he signed with the Vikes knowing that if he does sign, I could trade him for almost anything based off of the pure emotion of my fellow fantasy-footballers. After hearing that he signed I tried trading him instantly knowing that his stock could only go down from there. So, without further ado, check out this trade:

Getcha Popcorn Ready (ME) gets Steven Jackson, Marky Mark Sanchez

Other Team gets Brett Favre, Steve Breasten.

So, what do you think of the deal? I should also include that our league requires two starting qbs and Mr. Sanchez will be my #3 qb.

  13. I am so excited I have had to change my pants twice this morning...

Same here!! Have you ever wondered why it is nearly impossible to sleep in on days when the Bills play? I swear, I could go to sleep at noon on a Sunday, and if the Bills are playing @ 1, I'd be awake by 12:30!
