No, it really won’t be found out this season. He’s barely 23 years old. Blessed with ungodly talent, it has never been developed through quality coaching. It’s why he was forced to send a thousand letters to colleges just for an opportunity to showcase these gifts. Through 2 undistinguished schools of higher learning, he still wasn’t properly coached, as his teams stood in wonder of his amazing Hero Ball capabilities. His only -repeat ONLY- coaching has come in just the last 14 months. He still dazzled everyone, this time on a global scale, but he won’t be ‘pro ready’ for at least 2 more years. Case in point, Kelly went full scholarship to the U under Schellenbacker(sp?). Then 2 seasons under Mouse Davis playing semi-Pro ball. While he was anointed GOD upon arriving in B’lo, it was 2 more years of untimely INTs, game killing blunders and a huge ego that believed he could just WILL good things to happen.

Allen has ALL THE TOOLS. He will be Great in time. Just not THIS time..

That's not entirely a rule.  Some QB's come in as rookies and make the playoffs, others in more recent memory have taken HUGE strides forward in their second season (Mahomes, Trubisky) - and teams make the playoffs because they have a strong defense, good coaches (who manage their clock and challenges well) and breaks in the schedule along the way.  Look at the number of games that the Bills have played in past seasons that came down to a SINGLE play (a missed FG, a dropped pick 6, a hail mary that someone came down with, a bad call by the officials).  This is probably a playoff roster - now we need to execute McBeane's plan.

I agree.  So in a nutshell, they're expecting Kroft to be back within a few weeks and don't want to have to shelve him for six.  That's cool.  Smith is sort of like an extra O lineman also.  Both rooks have shown they belong.

    See ya Croom.

Croom's biggest moment will be his touchdown catch at the Vikings last year - the blown coverage play where he walked in.

Careful. Keep talking about building a strong run game and the “air it out” fans who think you can only win by throwing the ball in todays NFL will have strong words with you.

The Pats ran for something like 9 yards a carry against us in the first half of our 2 games against them last year....it was just horrible - all sweeps to the outside, made Patterson look like Ezekiel Elliott

“Terrible” is a bit of an over exaggeration...I would say that, compared to other HC’s, McD is probably closer to average imo.

McDermott is BEHIND Doug Marrone, who we all hate, and WAY behind Anthony Lynn, whom we could have had.  Way below average.

They made the splash signings though.  Bell, Mosley, Crowder, Kalil - and they drafted quinnen williams at 3 who is supposed to be a stud.

Pundits loved darnold pre-draft, and love him post-draft.  Everyone hates allen cuz reasons.  I dont hate the analytical look at him because numbers dont lie (except the 4% drop rate... that just seems wrong with benjamin on the team for several weeks) - but i do think you have to look at him and see that there was some development from beginning to end of the year.

My biggest issue with the allen "haters" isn't that that they think he may not be a good QB, or that he may never develop.  My issue - They actively root for him to fail... so they can be right

    FOUR percent drop rate?

Pocahontas? Nah, normal to call someone of Native American origin that.

I thought he called a 99.9% white woman that.  I don't remember Elizabeth Warren being Native American.  Neither does Liawatha.

This is all hypothetical and based off of paper right now, but until we show it on the field I say these 5 are better.

    1. Kansas City - Their offense from top to bottom is just downright scary with all of the weapons Mahomes has.

    2. New England - They still have Tom Brady and BB.

    3. New Orleans - The defense took a step forward last year and the offense hasn't been a problem since Brees.

    4. Los Angeles Rams - Again, another dynamic offense and a defense that sports the best player in the game.

    5. Cleveland Browns - Yes, the Browns. On paper that team is stacked. We'll have to see how the chemistry works out.

With this being said, I again say I feel this team is special. We already had a stout defense and they took steps to improve the offense everywhere. The key will be Josh and I believe the young man will take a giant step forward this year. Not only do I think we make the playoffs, but I think we win at least one game in them. People/networks can publish all of the Power Rankings they want, PFF can spout their crap, and anyone else can say whatever they want. See what they are saying in January.

How can you not have the Bears on this list.  They were 12-4 and will probably win the same number (if not more) games this year.

Fair grade.  I expected more from a first round DE.  It's amusing to me that this board in general is more harsh on Zay Jones (a 2nd round pick) than Shaq Lawson.

Jones only has the speed and route running prowess to occasionally get separation from only some of the league's defensive backs, some of the time.  That's his issue.  He doesn't get open very well.

The only annoying part to me as he projected himself to be this wholesome loving husband who lost his wife ( which I don’t wish on anyone ), and now is in massage parlors with minors.  I can almost understand if he had no knowledge of the sex trafficking thing, as how would someone know, not that I’ve been to one as that is gross, but if he really wanted company as he may be lonely, why not have his staff find some high class highly confidential and expensive escort service.

It it just screams of stupid.  Sad thing is nothing will happen from it.

Why is that gross?  You've never been to one.  They want your money, and work for it.  It's actually quite fair and equitable for both parties, and can be a GREAT stress reliever, which provides longevity and mental health.  You're missing out, and if "nothing will happen from it" - then why is it stupid?

This is CRAZY... no skill position player is worth this kind of money, PERIOD!  No WR and no RB.. they only can impact the game during plays when the ball is in their hands... QBs are the only players worth this kind of contract because the ball is ALWAYS in their hands.

This incredibly insane spiral of contracts for top end guys just blows my mind. Such a large percentage of your cap wrapped up in just 1 person... Again, QB is the only position worth that kind of percentage of the cap.

Yeah but the next few years (probably after this season or next) the Saints will have a rookie at QB.  Might as well spend it on a toy.

  11. I'm thinking the NFL needs to embed tiny helmet cameras in the face mask of every QB so that we get a wide angle of exactly what quarterbacks see when a play is going on.  The NFL often points out when a receiver is running uncovered and will frequently replay it.  I think it would be so cool to see what the QB sees (over linemen, to the sidelines, etc).  Would be cool to see the pressure coming up the middle with some sound.

Looking back at your years of fandome, are there any obscure or little-known Bills players or coaches that you’ve met. For me, there’s a handful of players and coaches:

Mark Maddox - Met this dude over at the old Rainbow Mall in Niagara Falls.  It must have been 1991 or 1992 because I remember there were actually stores open!  Including a Trench outlet store!  He was injured and on crutches but very nice and friendly.  It was an autograph signing and there must have been about 10 people in line but it didn’t seem to get him down. Very cool guy

Keon Carpenter - I had to interview Keon for a local newspaper about the Bills season.  Very nice and professional.

Gabe Northern -  A monster at LB for the Bills during the 90’s.  Always thought he was due for a breakout season.  Never happened but he was a solid player in the Bills 3-4

Foxboro, 1997.  Bills@Patriots.  Todd Collins leaves the game with an injury, Billy Jo Hobert comes in.  An hour and 45 mins later, he was in the bathroom in the fetal position sucking his thumb.  I asked if there was any TP in his stall, and if there was, to throw a roll of TP over men's room stall wall to me.  The toss was picked off.

Everyone has a full 90 right now - its kind of hard to find trade partners when teams have like 7 running backs a piece.  Pittsburgh and KC look like good fits, but LA isn't stupid enough to trade to afc contenders.  Gonna have to wait to see if some players get injured.  Their depth is OK, but if they make a move i'd try and grab someone like duke johnson to play 1b if ekeler becomes the full time starter.

Before last year i'd agree, but he was pretty good last year.

Plus the Raiders went first round running back, so they are set for a while

Considering most running backs really only get 2 contracts - and he's averaged about 1200 total yards and 10 TDs per year.  I don't really blame him.

Hard to determine his value - he's not gurley or bell, but he's also 26 and if he plays out this year he's subject to a tag year - thats 11 million in 2019.  Assuming he plays well this year and gets tagged next year he'd make approximately 16-17 million.  He's now 28 - the team will have drafted his replacement and "his best days are behind him" so he ends up with a modest mark ingram style deal (3yr 15 mil 6 guaranteed).  He probably plays out 2 and makes 10.  So he made 26 million - if he plays well and doesnt get hurt.

He signs a big deal now in the realm of the bell 4 and 50 - he gets 25ish guaranteed at signing.  If he plays well he probably makes more of that 50, or signs a 2nd deal when he gets cut - if he doesn't play well (or gets hurt) he still makes the same 26 he would have made by playing out his 5th year option/tag.

From a business perspective running backs kind of have to be selfish...

    He's TJ Yeldon with dreadlocks.

  15. I'm going...haven't bought seats yet.  Flying there from Boston.  I have a buddy that live in Marcus Mariotta's building - he has an apartment just downstairs from Mariotta's penthouse suite, so I'll be crashing there.  Cool building right downtown near the stadium.  Maybe we can bang on the ceiling with a broom all night and keep him awake, or pull the fire alarm at 2:30 AM of game day so he gets no sleep lol....

10-6 is probably realistic.  Let's say for arguments sake we could have been 8-8 last year, 10-6 is a logical progression up, even with a lot of new players.  I also think Josh Allen will be a lot more comfortable running the offense since he will be the designated starter and get most of the reps in camp/practice.  Daboll has a lot on his shoulders bringing everyone up to speed and on the same page, but if he can do this, a Wildcard spot is not out of the question.

On defense, the biggest question mark is DE.  Need someone other than Hughes to be an aggressive pass rusher.  I'm really hoping Shaq Lawson takes a step up and adds pass rushing ability to his run stopping ability.

I think you have to try to go game by game through the schedule and find 10 or 11 wins in that slate.  I realistically see about 8 or 9, tops.  But, like the Vikings game last year, there could be some surprise wins thrown in there, too.
