Wanted Baker. Beane clinging to his 5th rounders-- or no one wants them?

Randy Mueller said last week that only 150 players are worth drafting this year. If that's true, the latter half of fifth round picks are worthless. Beane may be trying to trade up, but maybe no one is willing to swap a 4th for some 5th rounders.

Jared Verse fell to 28 in this mock, which would be crazy.....  Then the BPAs in round 2 and 4a were both defensive players.  Kinchens is a player I have my eye on due to his connections to the Bills' coaching staff.  I'm not sure if heads would explode if we didn't get a WR in rounds one or two, but I do believe that Javon Baker would be a second rounder in most drafts.

I ALSO expect a HUGE year from Shakir this season.  Not enough to "replace" Diggs (I mean... c'mon...), but he will be a key factor.  Loved our FA WR pickups as well so I'm not "scared" if we didn't get a top 5 WR prospect in this draft.  I'd PREFER it, but if the draft fell like this one, I'd be pretty psyched.

I'd say our PASS RUSH is a GREATER need than WR right now.  Von Miller is washed up and can't be relied on.  We need a new body, and if Verse was there at 28, that's an absolute no brainer.  Sweat fell to 128 due to a boneheaded decision, and I'm happy if he's there in the 4th.  I added competition on the interior OL, and picked three safeties to compete.  Carlies I think would be SS bound, while Kinchens would compete with Rapp and/or come in for nickel/dime packages, depending on matchups.

EIchenberg is my MLB sleeper pick, from a good program.

I wouldn't mind that draft. I think we need another RB. Zinter a good get.

DT - A lot of one year deals on the team.  It would be great to get rookies some experience so they can step up next year

DE - The jury is still out on how Von can bounce back.  That would leave just Groot and AJ

OG/C - Whether McGovern is going C or not, we want more depth there.  I'd love a starting C, and keep the rest of the line as it was last year.

LB - We really needed better LB depth last year, and it's not crazy to think we wouldn't need it again

RB - We can also fill this in FA, but Cook still has ball security issues and we like to rotate.

Definitely DT. So Bills don't have to hit the free agent market for one next offseason.

Do we think they go the draft route or go after Aiyuk or Higgins?

My guess ... draft route. Don't know if Bills want to hand out a big contract to Aiyuk or Higgins when they can hopefully get a good rookie for 4 years on the cheap. But stay tuned, who knows what lurks in the mind of Beane.

McConkey's numbers from Georgia pro day per The Athletic:

Georgia’s event this year was highlighted by standout WR Ladd McConkey’s agility scores. McConkey ran a reported 3.97-second short shuttle with a 6.72 three-cone. Both are elite times, particularly the short shuttle, which would have been the top time across all positions at this year’s combine.

McConkey’s tape shows his terrific short-area quicks. It also shows that he has great speed, which he confirmed with a 4.39 40 at the combine.

  6. Just speculating ... wonder if this is related to the report a few weeks ago that he filed for divorce, then vehemently denied it, even though the papers were filed. Wonder if his lawyers told him he'd owe the wife a stack of money if he divorced her without a pre-nup, prompting the denial. This latest incident appears to be the result of her refusing a sign a post-nup.

Seems a bit strange, first of all the timing,  but more importantly they already have a terrific punter in Townsend. So unless they are releasing him for salary issues this signing makes little sense

Townsend a UFA at start of league year.

  8. Joe Buscaglia had this to say about Brown in his review of the Chiefs game:

"ever since the Bills returned from their bye week, Brown has been the best player of the starting five and one of their best players, period. He put together another impressive performance against the Chiefs, controlling his one-on-ones and proving to be a force as a run blocker. Since the bye week, Brown carried a 3.29 GPA over the final seven games. He went from having the lowest season GPA of the offensive line at 2.67, to passing left guard Connor McGovern and nearly passing both right guard O’Cyrus Torrence and center Mitch Morse for the year with the post-bye stretch. With how he finished the season, he’s a clear building block for the offensive line moving forward and should he have a good beginning in 2024, he likely will be a consideration for a long-term extension by the team."

Thanks for the writeup. Enjoyed it, as always.

You (and Collinsworth) are absolutely right. That WAS a playoff game.

I thought three things stood out last night: Brandon Beane's free agent acquisitions (Harty and Sherfield -- quiet all year -- accounted for two of the three Bills TDs, Taylor Rapp had the game sealing interception), McDermott's masterful defensive coaching, and Josh Allen simply putting the team on his back and willing them to victory once again. He accounted for 91% of the Bills' offensive production on the night. 91%. And the 4th quarter? Well...he simply wanted it more than anyone else on the field, and that was the difference in the game.

The defense -- and missing key players, mind you -- stifled the Phins in the second half, as you said, and held them to a full game TOTAL of 14 points. This was one of the top scoring offenses in NFL HISTORY, mind you, and they were playing at home. 14 points.

The special teams, maligned much of the season, produced a touchdown.

The offense, despite a bevy of mistakes, scored the go-ahead touchdown in the 4th quarter and bled enough time off the clock at the end -- including two gutsy 4th down decisions -- that the Dolphins simply didn't have enough time to mount a comeback.

All three phases. Complimentary football. Just what Sean McDermott's been preaching all season. I said repeatedly earlier this season that I thought his time as Bills coach had come to an end and the team should move on from him. It's only fair that I point out, then, that in the biggest game of the season, his defense shone brightly, his team played the complimentary football he always preaches and displayed the mental toughness he always touts, and at the end of the night...the once totally-left-for-dead Buffalo Bills were the AFC's 2-seed. Masterful job by coach McDermott.

    Gosh, football is fun sometimes.

Three of TBD's favorite whipping boys, Harty, Sherfield and Rapp, made critical plays for the Bills. Plus Spector's pinch-hit for Dodson. Good for them. Good for us.

See I don't buy that. You don't waste 9M on a player to unleash his abilities on week 17.  He's unfortunately been underwhelming and will be released in the off season.  I was 150% on board in going after Floyd. When the news broke I was ecstatic. Gabe's been a bust for awhile.

I was 100% wrong on believing the OL would remain mediocre or regress. They've been a pleasant surprise along with Cook.  Shakir's role will be expanded next year but Sherfield is gone too.

Post was a subtle attempt at humor.

Deonte Harty was a hugely underrated signing. He has flown under the radar throughout his career. He will take the top off the defense, be a key deep threat for Josh, and will add speed and explosiveness to our offense. His contract was a bargain compared to what he'll provide for the team.

    ......Whoops.

Bills have kept him under the radar. They'll spring him on Miami in week 18.

TBH I thought Vrabel did a really good tonight.  The Titans roster is mostly crappy and they found just about every way to blow it but when they showed him on the sidelines he was calm and calculated.

Levis also turned it up at the end against Vic Fangio who was supposed to be this “god” of defense.

This game felt a lot like a Bills collapse.  Miami’s numbers on offense look decent but they only scored TD’s when they were given a ridiculously short field by defense/ST’s.  The defense also scored a TD.

So the defense was the reason Miami had a 2 TD.  But in crunch time they absolutely wilted

    Three cheers for Meathead!

The line of scrimmage was the 49 yard line.

    2nd & 10 at BUF 49

(1:12 - 4th) (Shotgun) P.Mahomes pass deep right to T.Kelce to BUF 24 for 25 yards. Lateral to K.Toney for 24 yards, TOUCHDOWN NULLIFIED by Penalty. PENALTY on KC-K.Toney, Offensive Offside, 5 yards, enforced at BUF 49 - No Play.

The official is straddling the line and the yard marker is on the blue tv line.

Toney's foot is not past the line of scrimmage.

If the call was Offside,  just what is the NFL definition?

See page 17 of "Patty is not happy  -- boo hoo" thread. A view from high up shows Toney's foot clearly ahead of the ball.

Does anyone else read this part as Hines was hoping to show the injury was somehow caused by a normal football routine workout/conditioning and not the jet ski accident? That would have saved Hines millions right if the injury was shown to be football related and not from a recreational activity.

Read another version of this story in the Athletic a week ago. Did not get any indication that Hines was saying injury was workout related. Story said Bills and Hines reached an agreement re: non-football injury list. Did not specify, but I assume from story Bills are still paying him, but maybe a reduced amount.
