How many more full injury-free seasons does Tua have to get through before we can drop the "oft-injured" label?

And I love how the Dolphins have salary cap issues and somehow the Bills don't? Maybe this is because it's post-purge?

Folks keep talking about Josh running out of time to win a championship.  Here’s a link to ages of all SB winning QBs:

Lots of older guys, some younger guys.  I think the average age is around 31.

So he’s got plenty of time.  He will likely not be as much the runner, but that’s OK.

"He will likely not be as much the runner, but that’s OK."

Is it ok? My fear is that age will impact him more than a typical qb due to how much of his game is running. And I'm not just talking about mobility, but flat out running for difficult yards. He's going to have a transition to make in the next few years, time will tell if he can pull it off.

I agree with this, and had a thought as to how to view this mathematically. Let’s say we use a “point system” where every TD is worth 6 and INTs are worth -6. I know it’s grossly exaggerated, but give me a moment to elaborate the value here:

Lamar had 28 TDs, and that would be +168 points gained, with 13 T/O’s equaling -78. A net gain of +90.

    Allen had 44 TDs, good for +264, and 22 T/O’s for -132, which gives a +132 for JA17.

    Stroud had 23 TDs +138 and 9 T/O’s, for a gain for +84.

    Purdy: 31 TDs, +186, T/O’s 13 is -78 for a gain of +108

So, this obviously only works for QB’s, but JA blew the others out of the water for how much he contributed points-wise vs the others. Yeah, turnovers suck, but this should show how much value he had at his position and how important he was to winning those games.

I’m not saying Josh should win it, but I’m saying the Turnover argument is not strong in my opinion if you’re they one scoring so many of the points

So a counter-argument to Allen's touchdowns. How many of those 44 are rushing from a goal line or near goal line situation? Sure, a touchdown from one yard is worth as much as a touchdown from 20 yards, but how many teams would just send a bruising back to get that same goal line touchdown?

Josh had way more rushing TDs this year, but his rushing overall was down compared to the last couple of years.

Finally got a chance to rewatch the game. I am fairly certain this was by far the most passive defensive game plan that Spags has put together for the Chiefs vs Allen. In the 2020 AFC championship, he brought a bunch of pressure. He's done the same in many of the matchups afterward with a variety of creative and well-timed blitzes. This time, basically nothing. In 39 pass plays, the Chiefs barely ever pressured Allen and many times it was by design. D-Linemen were occasionally not even rushing and just trying to bat the ball down at the LOS. KC kept taking away the deep and intermediate routes and testing Josh's discipline to remain patient.

Despite running just 44 plays (kneel downs not included), the Chiefs had eight 20+ yard plays.

In 78 plays, the Bills had zero.

The game plan worked but was technically a failure. The Bills had three chances to hit on a deep ball but misfired on all of them. There was the Diggs pass deep downfield isolated on a safety. There was Shakir in the end zone. There was the throw downfield to Sherfield that was nearly caught. Catches on any of those three could have swung the game in Buffalo's favor.

Obviously a loss is a loss, but Spags' apparent plan was to patiently wait for Josh to get impatient and hand them a game-altering turnover and he didn't give them one.

    Interesting analysis, thanks for sharing.

My only critique is, if you are going to elude to the things that might have happened, like the three dropped passes, they you should probably include the Allen fumble that absolutely could have been a turnover. Maybe even the near interception.

IF the Bills are able to maneuver around his cap hit and someone offers a Second Round Pick.  Do you take it?

Where there's a will, there's a way and I think it's a no-brainer to trade him at this point if not for the dead cap.  I was on his side over the summer, but he's just negative energy at this point.  Weird vibes and doesn't back it up on the field.  Gets shut down, again, by Kansas City.  Fumbles on the first play.  Drops a 65 yard bomb in the 4th Quarter from Allen and makes a gesture intimating that it was on Allen.

    I'm over it.

I'd rather give Allen a couple Day 1/Day 2 Wide Receivers to go with Kincaid, Knox, Shakir and Cook at this point.

The dead cap hit might make this completely impossible, but if the Bills can get creative, I think we're better off.  The relationship just seems like it's run it's course.

His performance in these last couple of months has ruined his draft capital. No one is trading for him.

There are FOUR major issues heading into the offseason that need addressing immediately,  if not sooner:

    • Von Miller. They HAVE to find some way to convince him to retire outright, he's done. Damn it beane, that contract is an albatross.
    • Dawson Knox. He's wildly overpaid. Again, Pay cut or potential cut.
    • Tre White. Waste of a roster spot at this point. Sucks, but that's reality in the NFL. His career in buffalo is over.
    • Stefon Diggs. Has lost his quickness, and now he can't catch any more, either. He's done.

These four contracts are like lead shoes, and we're in a swimming pool. Gotta get creative and find a way to clear out this mess. Wish Beane luck. Of course my dream scenario is out there with Chicago, but that'll never happen. Ideally, I'd like to see us trade out of round one, for multiple twos and threes and start restocking.

This is the major problem with this team. Far too much cap space devoted to players that contribute at a level far below their cap number would warrant.

Now that the QB contract has really kicked in, you can't get away without cap efficiency. Bills are the opposite of cap-efficient. This is really difficult to overcome.

  7. Core problem with this team is too much cap space being eaten up by players that aren't producing.

    Examples:

    Diggs

    Knox

    Miller

What’s cringy about praying someone recovers quickly and clears the medical protocol designed to evaluate health and risk?  I hope Johnson recovers from his injury as and returns to work as quickly as he can.

Cringy would be “I’m praying he ignores the protocol if he doesn’t test as healthy and plays anyway.”

This is manufactured outrage.  No one on WGR said or implied they were praying that the injury protocol be ignored for the sake of firlding a p,ayer not healthy.

If you have a problem with the protocol, that’s another issue.   Let’s call the sports neurologists.

Ok, so is it 7 tbis? 9? 11?

"returns to work" is a profession that immediately puts him at risk for another tbi.

That’s remarkable. From a pure fandom perspective I’m glad he is a go.

From a human perspective, this is this guys 5th concussion of his career and he can play in 6 days? Nobody in the NFL gives a shirt about player health or safety, and the independent neuro’s must be on  the take.

Couldn't agree more. It's cringy hearing the guys on WGR praying the Johnson can quickly get over his FIFTH concussion to go play football. How many career traumatic brain injuries does a player need to have before we stop rooting for him to quickly clear the protocol?

This would be Taron Johnson's fifth concussion of his career.  At some point his availability for the next game becomes a secondary concern.

Yeah I know we all want him back, but it does feel icky continuing to hope this guy rushes back from concussions...

    Miami was down:

    X. Howard - #2 CB

    J. Phillips - #1 DE

    A. Van Ginkel - #3 DE

    B. Chubb - #2 DE

    J. Baker - Starting MLB

    J. Holland - Starting S

    C. Goode - #4 DE

And the other Safety Elliott was limping around the field.

And no Connor Williams at starting Center.

How many of those guys played against us?

  12. I think there was no intent to "fake slide". But he thought about sliding for a moment and started the process, then realized he didn't need to and stopped.

The roughing was an atrocious call. And I despise how he's always clamoring for a flag whenever a defender gets close to him.

Oh stop. They marched down the field on almost every possession. Game could easily have been 50-14 if not for turnovers and a Dawson Knox mugging/James Cook easy td drop. Nice try though 🙄

Woulda, coulda, shoulda. Bills O scored 14 points. Fact.

Against a depleted Miami defense. Also fact.

How so? He’s on pace to throw for his 2nd highest yards in a single season. He’s in pace for 32 passing TDs (his 4th highest and only 5 away from his highest) and 13 rushing TDs. He will likely exceed the 2nd highest TDs scored this season by double digits. And he’s done all this while having quite a few down weeks in the middle of the season. Of things continue like they have the last few games he should exceed all of his career highs in every category. If you are looking at his high number of ints as to why he’s undeserving he’s not much more than other league leaders in passing. While sitting at 14 is high, Tua, Lawrence, Hurts have 10, Mahomes and Love have 11. While he’s clearly in the league lead in turnovers, he’s also clearly in the lead of total TDs. Even Hurts will all the praise he gets only has 31 total TDs where as Allen has 35. Point being, if Allen wins out these last 4 games and even looks close to how he has the last few weeks, he’ll be in the top consideration for it.

"He’s on pace to throw for his 2nd highest yards in a single season." Who in the heck would care about this stat???
