This is nothing unusual, and certainly not controversial. The term used in the industry is ‘substantial completion’ and signifies the day that the project can be turned over to the Owner for its intended use. I’d have been shocked if it was anything else. The fact that there’ll be crews working around in a brand new facility (that’s only used one day every other week) is not the least bit unexpected.

Maybe set expectations differently? If they said it'll be done Spring 2027, then the perception is OMG they got it done early. But by saying it'll be done for the 2026 season, this makes it look late. Always under promise so you can over deliver.

So long as it's open for 2026 season & even if it isn't so long as they've got a place to play, I don't really care. Would be awkward if they tore the old one down then realized the new one wasn't going to be ready in time. 😂

Yes, but Barkley is a 21m per year RB. Henry is only at 15m per because he'll be 32 by the end of this season and has had recurring foot problems. If he had Cook's clean bill of health, tread left on the tires, and was 25 years old - he'd surpass Barkley's 21m per year.

Of course he's not 21m. But he's not asking for that. This idea that he's a definitively a 2 Down RB to every team in the NFL and that he's not worth 15m bc Henry is a better RB is severely flawed. It assumes every team in the NFL views and utilizes all players the same way and ignores the effect of Henry's age and wear and tear on his contract value.

Good point about the age difference. Cook is younger with more NFL left in front of him.

He's not used as a 3 down back *here*. That doesn't mean every team in the NFL will play him the same way. Every talking head and most fans of other NFL teams alike posed the question multiple times all year "why did they take Cook off the field"? Specifically after we lost to the Chiefs. Even as a Bills fan, i've often questioned taking our best offensive weapon off the field for a better blocker.

Not every team in the league is going to value pass pro from their RB as much as we do. There will be teams that will take less in pass pro to put another weapon on the field. Or teams that will put him on the field in favor of another weapon and put an added blocker in their place.

Just because he's used as a 2 Down Back here doesn't mean he's definitively a 2 Down Back for every team in the NFL and will be paid as a 2 Down Back by every team in the NFL. Every year we see players sign on to new teams with an increased role from how their previous team viewed them and are paid more for it. Take Josh Palmer this year with us for example.

It sounds like we agree Cook is a great weapon but blocking is not his strong suit. It may very well be that some teams will scheme around this as you say. It doesn't make him a better blocking back. And on 3rd and obvious passing downs that can be an issue. (Again, I'm not saying Cook isn't a very good back. I agree 100% he's a great weapon). But Barkley & Henry are great weapons who are also very good blocking backs. That difference has added value, where you do not have to change your scheme to hide a deficiency. Which is why they are the highest paid & why I don't think the Bills will pay Cook as much as those 2 (though I think they might be willing to pay just below that).

Performance to date isn't the only thing that matters when it comes to contract. Often times, it's not even the most important thing. Age, injury history, and envisioned increased role from signing team from original team (ie there will be teams that view Cook as a 3 Down Back) play into money just as much and more all things considered. If Henry were Cook's age and had Cook's clean bill of health, he'd be surpassing Barkley's price of 21m per.

I've said it once, i'll say it a million times. it's fair to say you personally wouldn't pay a RB what Cook is going to get in the open market. But it's ridiculous for people to simply point at one thing or another in a vacuum to argue he's worth less. If many of you get your wish and he ends up signing elsewhere, it's not going to be anywhere near what some of you argue his market value is.

He's not a 3 down back. Not very good in pass protection. Henry & Barkley are. That's a big part of the difference in the value.

As to whether RB's in general are worth the money or not, it's an open and fair debate. Eagles won w/ Barkley last year. Prior to that KC won a bunch without paying a lot for a RB, New England was the same. I don't know, every situation is different. If it's the right back with the right team it could be worth it. But not every back and every team would make it worth it.

Why? Henry is leagues above him in talent and accolades and only got Cook's ask.

I thought the exact opposite. Henry got a 2x15. He's better than Cook. Cook should get less than 15

    Did it?

Henry contributed 124+ ypg for Baltimore last year - 113 Y/G rushing and another 11.4 receiving yards.  Almost half those yards were after contact.

Played 17 games and....only 57% of the snaps!!!!   Add in 270 yds in the playoffs

He's a beast, and stopping him must have kept DCs up at night.  Bills called it good, to limit him to 84 yds in the playoffs.

I don't mean to dunk on Cook.  He's a fine player.  But apparently part of his team's argument for why he should become one of the highest paid backs in the NFL is that he's capable of being a 3-down player, but the Bills are limiting his touches to <50% of the snaps, causing him to only rush for 63 ypg vs what he could theoretically contribute if he were allowed to be the 3 down player he's capable of being.

When you look at Henry's contributions almost 2x the yards with only ~15% more snaps, that argument kind of gets shredded...like the defenses Henry runs over

Completely agree Henry is a better back who should get paid more. Not sure Cook sees it that way though. He was asking for more than Henry got before & so might ask for more now. Beane shouldn't & won't pay that high. Would just like to temper Cook's expectations.

I am looking to buy a horse farm in East Aurora and if Ed Oliver were traded away I could get a real cushy deal.

Buffalo drafted some much bigger defensive players, Ed is small  6'1" and has a fairly big contract. Branden Beane needs cap space for the next superstar wide receiver. You probably don't care about stupid wide receivers but I do.

    Anyway....

I am hoping to get the horses too. 🐎

Sorry don't see Ed galloping off into the sunset anytime soon.

It's a shame you care about stupid wide receivers bc Beane doesn't care about wide receivers, stupid or smart.

  7. DT all day!

Here's what we currently have at the position:

    Ed Oliver

    Daquan Jones

    Larry Ogunjobi (suspended 6 games)

Dwayne Carter (wasn't great as a rookie)

    Zion Logue

Thin & uninspiring. For a team that keeps getting bounced bc they D-line has not been good enough, this group is not sufficient.

I think if some posters want to discuss picks before they are announced on television, they should have a separate thread, so they don't spoil the evening for those of us who love the suspense.

I agree with Gonzo, just keep it to yourself, or join a separate thread.  No one is impressed.  In fact, quite the opposite.

    2 competing draft threads. Titled:

    Overzealous Draft Watch

    &

    Blissfully Ignorant Draft Watch

    Or just "Spoiler" vs "Non-spoiler".
