Does he have an explanation for why our D is suddenly missing SO MANY tackles?  It's ridiculous really.

Perhaps missing 4-5 pro bowl caliber players has something to do with that? Regardless of that this message board thinks, it's unreasonable to expect us to have an entire starting lineup PLUS a backup at every position that can play at a pro bowl level every game

  2. Every game we have times where Devin starts to cook and then is rested the very next drive. Motor is a better runner, receiver, and blocker and we need him out there. This idea that he needs to rest every other drive is so frustrating, let him get a feel for the game like we did at the end of last season when he was tearing it up

I think reducing the Bills perennial secondary success to scheme is an oversimplification. You still need good football players to have a good team. If it was as simple as playing a DB friendly scheme every team would have a good secondary.

But are they good football players, or true All-Pros? They were castoffs before they came here.  Good football players can be replaced with younger, cheaper good football players in a good scheme.  All Pros can't be replaced.  The latter gets paid no matter what.

Tre went out, our secondary soldiered on.  If Josh/Diggs/Von went out (KNOCK ON WOOD.), would it go on at nearly the same level?

You will never see a team choose to kick ever unless it is an extreme weather game and direction is more important.

I'm having trouble following your logic. If you take the ball and score, you can then prevent the other team from scoring to win the game, or if they do score, you have the first try at a sudden death score to win the game.

If you kick the ball, your opponent can go score, and then the pressure is on you to match them. Even if you do match them, you then give them the first shot of a sudden death score to win. No team is ever, ever going to take that risk.

If the Chiefs got it first and scored a touchdown and kicked and XP, then we would have driven down, scored, and went for a 2PC to win.

If the Chiefs got it first and kicked a FG, we'd drive it down with the knowledge of what we needed to do in certain scenarios to either extend the game or win it.

If the Chiefs got it first and turned the ball over, we'd know we can go more conservative only needing to get into FG range to win it.

If you possess the ball first, what do you do when it's 4th and 8 from the 20 yard line?  That's a lot harder to answer than it is for the team that's going second.

And I think this board is way underestimating how important a Center is to the QB. Josh doesn't want anyone else is my guess... and boom, Mitch gets a new deal.

Totally agree.  He's solid NFL player and leader, and Josh loves him.  We can't have all-pros at every position, so if a guy is solid enough to play but not a sure thing I'm sure Josh's desires weigh heavily on the equation

This was Kurt's take before the Patriots playoff game:

    How about those "layups" now?

The point Warner failed to answer to, and the most important IMO, is that Josh is held to a ridiculous standard that no other young quarterback is.  The goalposts are constantly moving.  He's an athletic running QB who can't stand in the pocket and throw.  Okay he's standing in the pocket, but he can't throw with accuracy.  Okay, he's throwing with accuracy but he can't hit the short stuff.  Okay, he's hitting the short stuff but he can't throw deep.  Okay, he can throw deep but he can't do it two games in a row.  Okay, he did it two games in a row but he can't do it in the playoffs....

It's exhausting to listen to, and I should probably take the advice of the poster above who just records the games and FFs through all the nonsense.

  7. QB is what matters.  There's a reason why most almost all of the last 22 Super Bowls have featured one of Brady, Manning, Big Ben and Mahomes.  If you want to try and luck into one of the once-every-ten-years Super Bowls that don't follow this trend (Flacco vs. Kaep!  Johnson vs. Gannon!) then don't pay your top 5 QB.  Otherwise, pay your top 5 QB.

NewEra you make it seem like it is easy to get back to the SB. We are lamenting the lost opportunity because it is really hard. Yes Allen is a top 3 QB. But so was Marino. So was Elway. So was Brees. All kinds of things can happen in a season. We are hurting because they had a great shot to win it all. People have been posting about 10-15 year windows to win the SB. That is incredibly unlikely.  It more likely the Bills go the way of Seattle when the real effects of Allen's extension kick in.

The coaching staff and Beane blew a great opportunity when Allen was still relatively affordable. That all comes to a halt in a couple years.

They should have been win at all costs this year just like LA.  Hopefully Beane will adjust.

The pain will lessen, but not for many weeks.

But we wouldn't have been in the super bowl. We would have had to beat a good Bengals team with a good quarterback, something we didn't do all season. Then we likely would have had to do it again in the super bowl against the Rams.

We made it to the divisional round, something we should be doing every year for the next ten years with JA. This "we lost an opportunity that's so hard to come by!" is a total exaggeration.

That's pretty wild!  IMO the biggest reason why this year has been so stressful and polarizing for the fanbase.  It's hard to take those stomach punch losses over and over knowing that we're a good team.  I'd much rather just get blown out once in a while, chalk it up to a bad week and move on

It's a brutal matchup because the Colts "run-first, grind the clock, and control the game" mentality/philosophy in a 1-game do-or-die scenario is scary for a Pass-First Offense that puts so much pressure on its QB. The physicality of the Colts in a 1-game playoff can force the opposing QB (in this case, Josh) to press and make mistakes. Then once the Colts get ahead of the sticks, it's game over. They just run, run, pass when they need to, stay on the field, eat up clock, etc.

I've seen it first hand with the 2007 and 2011 Giants under Tom Coughlin who had the same philosophy. They were built to upset Passing teams in the postseason.

You DO NOT want to see the Colts in Round 1 under any circumstance. The Bills are better off losing in Week 18 to the Jets.

You haven't actually watched Carson Wentz play much lately, have you?

  11. Respect for coming back to take your medicine.  Mac did exactly what he did against a good team last week in Indy--not a whole hell of a lot during meaningful snaps.  You predicted the Pats would get 38 pts against us...not sure where that even came from considering our record against young QBs

Still, again, respect for coming back to take it.  You've been a good poster on this board for a long time.

So the Chiefs aren't ANYONE and at Arrowhead as well.

Don't worry, they're busily typing a response about how our KC win doesn't count because KC was playing badly at the time or something.  Or how that game was the Bills personal Super Bowl, so much like the Colts on Saturday, it doesn't really count.

I've lurked on this board a long time.  This person was so much less contentious when the Pats were front running Super Bowl locks every year.  Funny how that works.

A Bills fan of all fans shouldn’t say “ you beat weak teams” when the Bills haven’t beaten ANYONE!!!

Garbage time? If you think the fact the score could have been 21-20 during said “garbage time” and they were 2 run stops from getting another chance in “garbage” time.  I don’t think that word means what you think it means! The Pats could have very easily won that game. Even with the O not moving the ball the Colts scored only 20 points on the D, the deciding factor was the Special teams and the blocked punt. That doesn’t happen and guess what “garbage” time give the Pats a 17-13 lead and I bet they throw instead of run..

Mind you what was the score for Buffalo against Indy in BUFFALO? Oh right 41-15 and Allen stats were almost identical to Jones… and Jones had to deal with a Hostile crowd..  (and he unlike Allen (who never got the chance) was coming threw in the clutch when they needed him to. Threading that needle to Henry make it 20-17)  so basically using your logic Jones was a better QB than Allen and gave his team a better chance to win.  (To anyone but the person I’m quoting, no Jones isn’t better by a long shot.. just trying show how silly his point is about garbage time.)

Regarding us not beating anyone...that's why I said "Sounds pretty familiar, actually."  Because that's us, too.  We're having similar seasons.  That was the point I was making.  Lol.

The rest of your post is just so full of hypotheticals and hardly coherent statements I'm not sure what to say.  But to summarize--the game situation changed as the game was winding down, and Indy wasn't playing the same scheme they had used to stifle you for most of the game.  That's all.

    Take it easy, Francis.

Umm the Pats D dropped no less than 4 other potential picks from Wentz.. so let’s not go saying the Colts dominated on O all game, they didn’t. If anything the Pats D let mistakes slip threw their fingers.  The Pats were flat most of the first half and that late pick by Jones hurt in the red zone.. but if anything that Blocked punt annoyed me more than the O Studdering for a quarter. (The O moved it in both the 3rd and 4th quarter)

Well, I think it's kind lame to act like you were just a dropped ball or two away from kicking ass in a game you didn't really score in until garbage time.  By that logic, the bills are really a 12-2 team, if not for coming out flat and a miscue here and there.

In reality you're a five loss team who has beat up on some bad/injured teams and lost to most of the good teams you've played (and even a couple mediocre ones).  You had a stretch of your season that was *****, and you had a stretch that was strong.  Sounds pretty familiar, actually.

To your other point, the O moved it at the end of the third quarter when you were down 20-0 and running out of possessions.  Your other two drives in the third quarter were:

    3 plays, 9 yards, INT
6 plays, 22 yards, Turnover on Downs

The Colts played like it was their SB, they also got HF advantage. Even with all that it was a 20-17 game with 2:10 to go in the 4th… my point? I don’t see the Bills stopping the pats run consistently, and opening up the PA..

    Pats 38

    Bills 31

I see Allen having a great day but being stopped 1 more time than Jones and the Pats..

The Pats gained 2/3 of their total yardage in the end of the third/fourth quarter with the Colts playing a softer D up three scores.  Not to mention a horrible pick from Wentz that got them right back in it.  Let's not pretend like the game was a close battle the whole way.

Also, pretty arrogant to say "The Colts played like it was their SB"....really feeling yourself there, eh?  They crushed us, played the Bucs close, shutout the Texans, and beat up you guys for three quarters.  Shouldn't teams be playing their best ball in major December matchups in primetime? They're simply playing great ball right now even with an extremely limited QB.
