  1. Bills Mafia,

This will be the last time I check this board until Sunday (and hopefully I'm happy when I come back!).

Just wanted to say I hope it's a good, clean game and it comes down to the wire (let's be real I hope the ravens win 100-0 and I can start resuming normal cardiac rhythm early in the game but we know that's not happening).

Good luck tonight, and appreciate the hospitality on the board this week. I hope whoever wins tonight wins the SB.

    Go Ravens!

How can it be a “stupid” thought when the bills held Lamar to 40 yards rushing last year? That thought seems pretty objective to me based off of what we did to him last year. Again, not saying that Lamar can’t play well against us but we have shown that we can shut him down even if he is better than some of the rushing QBs we’ve faced this year.

Okay, you want to go back to last year's game and stats? Now we're stretching to the brink of objectivity, but I'm happy to go that route.

My point was that you compared him to "rushing QBs". He's a next level runner and the best athlete on the field.

  3. I see a poster come on here every 5 pages or so and say something along the lines of, "Has everyone forgotten how good we are why does everyone on this board think we're going to lose??"

What thread are you reading? Because it's not this one. Almost every comment on here is positive or saying Ravens are good at "xyz" but Bills will pull this out. There's maybe one negative post every 1.5-2 pages. It's like some people are trying to create the "Bills against the world" narrative. Most pundits like blabbering out LJ because he makes highlights plays, but when you look at vegas and the actual picks from "experts" is very even.

The Bills are a fantastic team. I legitimately think this game is a coin toss and will be very close either way.

-Concern- Lamar is a rushing QB. Objective thought- We’ve faced a couple rushing QBs this year and the highest total that one of them had was 61 yards

I can live with your other comparisons, but comparing any other "rushing QB" in the league to LJ is just stupid. That's not an "objective" thought I would stick with.

Just checked, this is actually the first time that the Ravens are not the favorite all season long. They have been on a 17 game run until now.

Not accurate. It's the first time we're not favorites with LJ at QB.

When we went to Pittsburgh and had half our team out with COVID we were something like 10-point underdogs. Actually almost won that game, too.

I had read that Humphrey will cover Beasley in the slot, but I’m not sure how credible the source is.

@AllDayLJ what do you think the ravens will do?  Who covers the slot the majority of the time?

I wouldn't be surprised if we have Marlo in the slot and Jimmy Smith plays the other outside role along with Marcus. We've done that this year plenty of times. A lot of times it depends on the teams though, their WRs, etc. If they did put Marlo in the slot on Beas, they'd put Peters on Diggs and Jimmy on the opposite side.

I'm expecting him to be available for Saturday and ideally both teams will have everyone healthy, but if Peters is truly questionable and wound up missing the game, that would be a huge factor especially with how I think we'll plan to attack the Ravens defense.

Suddenly, Jimmy Smith is their #2, Anthony Averett is probably their #3, and their secondary looks very very vulnerable to our 10 and 11 personnel. Something to watch when the inactives list drops.

@AllDayLJ interested to get your expert thoughts on how healthy Peters is and what talent level/depth at CB is available behind Humphrey and Smith. Cheers!

I would expect all of them to play. Marcus has been on the injury report what seems to be the entire back half of the season. But it doesn't sound like anything major.

You nailed it on the depth, though. Not much. Luckily Jimmy Smith is still solid, but then it falls to Averett - who I honestly think has played well during this winning streak - and Tramon Williams.

    Let's just hope Marcus plays!

It's a serious ground game, but against that you need to look at who they played.  Cowboys have the 29th run D, Jaguars 30th, Bengals 31st.  404, 159, and 294 yds there.

The 159 yd game against the Jaguars interests me the most.  Looks like Lamar had a good game passing, 250 yds passing.   I don't know if I have time to watch it, but I'd be interested if anyone has, did the Jags just sell out to stop the run and dare the Ravens to pass?  Glancing at the box score, it looks as though the Ravens tried to run a good bit, 37 rush attempts to 26 pass attempts (Jackson 17 of 22 for 243 yards).

The other game I'd rewatch if I had the stompach for it would be the Browns.  Their rush defense isn't godawful - 19th - and they gave up 249 rush yards.  The thing was I watched it real time and came away with the impression just a sloppy football game on both sides, so even though the announcers were all over the ending I was done with it by then.

The Jags game was a weird one. They couldn't stop a thing, we were railroading them, but the rushing stats don't really show that. Lamar didn't get much. If I remember correctly, LJ was also pulled with about 8 or 9 minutes left and Tyler Huntley led the last two drives.

The Browns game there was just zero defense being played. It was an anomaly. We almost never get into shootouts like that. It just felt like both offenses were doing as they pleased. Wild game but it really screwed with our defensive statistics for the season.

The only thing that makes me feel good about the game that doesn't reflect on a quick glance at the season box scores is our health. Yes, our franchise LT is out and our backup (but heavily used) TE is out, but our defense is very healthy for the first time all year. You really saw that last game against the Titans and that's very encouraging if you're a Ravens fan.

  8. One point of clarification. I've seen a couple comments the last 50 pages or so about our "TEs". We really only have 1 now.

Last year we had three tight ends and it was fantastic. We had Andrews, Hurst and Boyle.

This off-season we traded Hurst to the Falcons, leaving us two. Then Boyle got hurt during the Patriots game. We've picked up Eric Tomlinson, but he's basically a non-factor.

That's changed our offense this year. Those 3-TE sets were absolute daggers to defenses, and that part of our offense is just gone. Poof.

His refusal to shake hands with his opponents after the game was a real class act.

Ugh. I can't stand comments like this. They're short-sighted and frustrating. If you read even one article on LJ you would know that's not him at all. He a legitimately very, very nice dude.

He actually said after the game he wanted to pull the team off the field so that they DIDN'T get into it with the Titans. He knew emotions were high because of what's happened the last couple games and then the defense going out onto the logo.

    Couple thoughts.

See some talk about the Ravens only putting 20 up on Titans, but their D really held a good offense down.  Thats what scares me the most.  Whether its Titans play calling or OL worse at pass pro than run block or Ravens are that good I dont know, but thats what worries me the most.  I am hopeful with the way we have been tested and responded all season (last week is a great example of a team that wont back down if things do go their way at all).  On Simms and Florio, I like them picking against us.  I think we have done well in those situations, and i saw rodney harrison (Dungy also eye rolled) correct Florio's line of "the Bills have to be second guessing themselves."  Both teams got a big weight of their shoulders and will be playing loose.  So excited for this game.

The Ravens offense was very mediocre against the Titans. And while the pure stats may tell you otherwise, we actually didn't have that great of a running day. I think both Edwards and Dobbins were held to only 80 or so total yard between the two. LJ getting 130+ is what skewed the stats.

On the other side of the ball, the defense balled out. Henry could barely get past the line of scrimmage most plays, and we just shifted the line a yard back seemingly every play.

Curious here, @AllDayLJJosh Allen went off about LJ in one of his pressers this week - check it out if you haven't (if that youtube link doesn't work it's on buffalobills.com).  2:50 in though you might be interested in the start, he's talking about John Harbaugh.  He says a lot of complimentary things about Lamar as a person.  Comes across as a fanboy actually,  then of course ends with "this weekend he's the Enemy and we both know that."

Just wondering if you've ever heard LJ be asked about Josh Allen or say anything about him.

Hey @Hapless Bills Fan I actually saw that the other day. Just added it to the list of reasons why I like Allen. Just a good dude.

I actually just saw LJ say this yesterday:

"People are always just talking about Josh and his big arm, but he's doing it all out there," Jackson said. "He's getting out of the pocket, taking advantage of what the defense gives him, throwing the ball on a rope. He's slinging the ball like a Patrick Mahomes. He's helping his team out a lot. He's one of the key reasons they're putting up so many points and winning games. Hats off to Josh because he's been doing it since his rookie season."

I prefer Josh Allen's approach: "Let's keep this ***** simple.  Let them do all the talking and all the ***** dancing and we do the work!  Win on 3 - 123 WIN!"

I think we're two ships passing in the night here - we're not comparing the same thing. LJ would never do that. He's a quiet, humble dude. However, a defense full of very aggressive players and the biggest trash talker in the league (maybe second behind Ramsey) making the INT, is a different story.

    - Patriots example: I honestly wouldn’t have appreciated it. Let the play on the field do the talking. We’ve done little trolling things in the past, but usually it’s within the team to hype one another (dancing to renegade) not a shot at the other team. But that’s more preference than anything. Peters is kind of a d-bag, so no surprise there. 😛

    - I wonder if we will try to exploit that with our speed - getting down field and taking shots to force you to hold/pi.

    - yep. If it’s just a matter of each of us playing to our strengths, Pass always beats run. But it’ll be a situation to see who has the cleaner game.

Agreed to disagree re: logo celebration. But yeah Marcus is....eccentric? I'll say that haha

Thanks for this man. I didnt love the logo stomp thing, but yes, Titans are punks. Ive never got over music city miracle, not a fan of Vrable. Nor a big Tannyhill fan, so nice to see him struggle.

Your right, on many of your points. The key here imo is going to be critical mistakes, penalties, turnovers, and special teams.

One huge aspect is how will the refs call this game; your DBs are grabby...and we will see how the refs let that go. I think we can draw some PI calls.

Just to be clear, the Titans logo stomp was amazing. Switch Ravens for Bills and Titans for Pats and imagine it and tell me you wouldn't love every second of it.

Speaking of penalties and mental mistakes, Tanny was trying to hard count our DLine the entire game last week. He even got me a few times through the TV. But our DLine didn't draw one penalty all game. I was shocked and impressed. Conversely, we'll get a PI call or two. We have physical corners (especially Marlo) who like to push, grab, etc. I expect a couple every game, just hope they're minimal. We've also gotten a few too many late hit calls this year. Nothing malicious or anything or the sort, just an aggressive line.

Turnovers are going to decide the game, 100%. I think these are very evenly-matched teams, with us obviously the better run team and you the superior pass team. Should be good.

6 minutes ago, Miyagi-Do Karate said:

Do you think you all will blitz as much as has been suggested?  The reality is that the best way to play pass D against Josh Allen (and pretty much every good QB in the league) is to pressure with only 4 and drop a bunch of guys into zone coverage.

Good question. I think we do. I'm not saying I want us to, but I think that's been our formula all year and it's the defensive identity at this point.

I do think that with our DLine finally being healthy and getting good push up front it may limit how much we have to blitz, though. If we aren't afraid of the Bills running game, I could see us loading up smaller in the box and playing more in coverage.

  14. Hey y'all,

Ravens fan checking in. I've spent every couple minutes I get between meetings catching up on this thread (while I was waiting for my account to be approved - thanks!) and I'm still only on pg. 30, but I wanted to go ahead a post.

I really like the Bills as a team and I love watching smaller market teams (like BAL) succeed.

Josh Allen is a stud and I'm obviously a huge Diggs fan (go Terps). I think this is going to be a really tough match-up for the Ravens, and I expect it to be a one-score game either way.

Just to address a couple things I've read so far over the first 30 pages or so:

    • The Titans logo stomping post-INT was absolutely fantastic and I've been watching it on repeat.
      • The Titans were/are one of the Ravens biggest rivals, and we used to be in the same division. We ***** hate them, looped in with the Steelers and Pats.
      • They not only had "meetings" on our logo earlier this year, but they did it last year after the playoff game. They were also jawing at our coach earlier this year and mocking our players last year after they beat us. ***** them.
      • This rivalry is 100% reignited and I think it's great for the game.
    • I think both teams are going to play loose.
      • You guys getting your first playoff win in years, and LJ winning his first playoff game (and revenge against those #######s from TN), lifted a big burden off the teams.
    • Why I'm confident in the Ravens:
      • Run Offense. The Bills' run defense was getting gashed against the Colts, and I really like our chances to put up 200+ yards as has been our standard lately.
      • Run Defense. Similar to the Bills run defense, the running game is not strong in Buffalo. But more importantly, the Ravens D-line is the healthiest it's been all year, and it's amazing to see Campbell/Wolfe/Williams/Judon all playing. It's a night and day difference.
    • Why I'm NOT confident in the Ravens:
      • Risky Pass Defense. Marcus Peters is a gambler. He will gamble in this game. Which means he'll either get a pick, or will get beat at least once deep by Diggs/Brown. Humphrey is a beast and just a good dude (Marcus Peters is more one of those dudes that you hate unless he's on your team), and is coming off a really shaky game against AJ Brown (beast). I'm hoping he bounces back this week.
      • Josh Allen. He's just a game changer. He's one of those guys where you can play a great defense, but he'll make an even better through. I love watching him succeed and hope he has an amazing career. Just not Saturday (please).

Anyway, good luck to you guys this weekend. I think it'll be the best game of the weekend and could absolutely see the winner take this momentum to the SB. I don't think I can wait 2.5 more days for this.
