  1. One thing to add to this hypothetical discussion is that it isn't just a matter of people within the state voting to split the state. It's certainly a constitutional issue. Here's an excerpt from the article pertaining to the states: link. The Upstaters might want to split the state, but it looks it take the consent of the NY state legislature and the congress. Getting the downstaters to agree to let their cash cow depart is going to be difficult.

  2. a couple of high draft picks would be great. i don't see any team giving away too much since Peters is asking for a boatload of cash.

The nice thing is that there's two years left on his contract, which is attractively priced. It isn't like the usual case of the player finishing the last year of his contract, where the team has to negotiate the contract as part of the trade. The risk for the team is that he'll hold-out for a year or two.

  3. It doesn't matter who's playing corner anyhow if we can't get a pass rush...

A separate thread should be titled as the above quote.

The folks who are critical of the CB decisions that have been made need to offer up some suggestions about the bigger picture of how to impove the defense as a whole (in the context of available FAs and potential draft picks). What were our rankings for the defense last year?

  4. I have a question for the folks that question this deal: if the team let Lee go after this season, what would you suggest as a replacement? It's generally agreed that a team needs a deep threat because opposing defenses will play to the advantage of a short field. There are no deep threats on this team other than Lee. The leaves either the draft or free agency for next year. I don't suppose you'll argue that a rookie is going to be an immediate deep threat, even if we draft in the top 5. For the free agent route, would we pay less than this deal for someone of comparable skills? I haven't looked at the potential free agents for next year, but it might be the case that top receiver just got taken off that list.

  5. Aside from the noise, there is some signal in this thread, and it's a topic worth discussing. This boils down to the following: OTAs and training camp are important. The play of Favre, Manning and Chambers can be attributed to this. So next year when there are players in the league that aren't in OTAs or training camp, and people say it doesn't matter, we've got data that says it does matter.

In Peter's case, we shouldn't be too sullen. We've got weak opponents for the next two weeks, and then a bye. Last year's data consists of Strahan. He sucked in the first few games, and then was a decisive factor in the Big Game.

  6. I dont think so. There were other positions we needed at that time, but the skill and ability of the best remaining players at those positions wasnt that great.

Youbooty has vastly improved. I thaught he was a bum last year, and probubly part of the reason we sucked agenst the run. Now he looks great.

If Greer can just learn that pass defense invloves more than just diving and sticking one arm in the air, then we would have a pair of nice young CBs.

I don't quite agree. Pass defense is preventing the receiver from catching the ball, even if that is just diving and sticking one arm in the air. Turn overs are a second priority. Greer does his job, and nobody behind him can be described as threatening him for his job. I'd really doubt that knowledgeable fans are complaining about how he's performed.

  7. :wallbash: Really impressed with last Monday's show, great job!!! Some have mentioned the need for callers, but for me that show stood on its own and calls would have gotten in the way. Ruben does a really fine job taking us inside the game and you are to be commended for asking the right questions and then (this isn't criticism) getting out of the way.

Beats the heck out of any other sports radio I've heard in quite some time.

The dynamic of Ruben and Gabe bringing up their own topics and speaking from the heart would have been disrupted by callers. Kudos Brad for just letting them talk!

  8. Now that the smoke has cleared I think it’s safe to say that after over 10 years of waiting they have finally addressed the needs of offensive line in total not just a one “player” patch work. Hats off! I look forward to a much improved offense this year. Can’t wait till fall!

I'm with you on that. If we ask the hypothetical questions of "if you're rebuilding a team from nothing, where do you start? What do you prioritize?", I would answer O-line. Running game depends on it, passing game depends on it, QB performance is linked to it, etc. After all these years to finally address this is fantastic. I personally can't evaluate how good the moves we've made are, but I'm damn glad that it's recognized as a priority.

  9. This just pisses me off. Bought XM when it first came out, now I want to go to Sirius strictly for this channel and the NHL games, but the wifey poo loves her XM. Good for you guys that waited, figured these guys had no chance of making it

I was pretty relieved when Sirius got the NFL deal - I got mine way back in 2002. I would have switched if XM got the contract. It's really incredible having so much NFL talk piped into my car (I commute 2.5 hrs/day).

  10. I listen to Kirwan alot, and if there is anything you can say about him is that he lays his reasoning out on the table for evaluation. You may disagree with his conclusion, but atleast he has a reasoned arguement. For example with the Bills, he says that the knocks against us are the QB, the Oline and TE. Well, that's no different than what alot of Bills fans think. My favorite thing he does on the radio when someone proclaims team X is going 12-4, he pulls out the schedule and goes through each opponent asking the person to say W or L. Quite often the total is a bit worse than 12-4.

  11. OK - at the risk of revealing a total lack of WNY culture and even though I lived there for 8 years, I have to admit that I've never tried a fried bologna sandwich. I did, however, love bologna as a kid so I'm sure I would like this unique culinary delight.

So, my fellow wallers, please describe to me (in detail) how I should prepare a fried bologna sandwich.

It's pretty easy. Fry a slice of bologny. Put on bread. That's it.
