    I don't think it's that simple.

I'd argue that the Bills' playoff losses were caused by two things. 1) Failure of defensive coaching. 2) Some of our players failing to live up to expectations.

You look at the defensive coordinators who did a good job in the playoffs against the Chiefs. It's not as though those coordinators are currently being hunted down by the police. Then you look at Beane's draft day mistakes, and at some of the players he could have drafted in place of those mistakes. For the most part, the "could have drafted" guys haven't made the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Let's say Beane woke up tomorrow morning and said, "I no longer care about character. I'd be perfectly happy to turn this team into a bunch of thugs!" My response to that wouldn't be, "Super Bowl victory, here we come!" The thug approach isn't going to push the Bills' defensive coaching staff away from the soft zone/prevent defense approach that's failed so badly against the Chiefs. Nor is it going to make Beane better at evaluating talent. Bill Belichick has spoken about having learned from the mistakes he made in Cleveland. If Beane and McDermott take that same approach, I believe they can increase their level of competence.

Great post, I would rather go 0 - 17 with good citizens as players than win a SB with thugs and criminals; and I have waiting since 1963 and my time is running out. Football, the Buffalo Bills are part of all of us but we all need to keep things in perspective!

Just a reminder of Kalsu and the sports Illustrated story. Also, Bills Mafia is extraordinarily generous--some might want to contribute to his memory @http://www.buffalocommunityboathouse.org.  You could even get learn how to sail in the boat bearing his name!IMG_0004Medium.thumb.jpeg.4d8d542968cc2986b429e4cb280a6e5a.jpeg

As a war veteran myself, I have a huge soft spot for those who served, especially those who served and paid the price.

I think about Kelso every Memorial Day.  He could have gotten a deferment and didn't.  Wanted to serve and truly cared about his men.  I'm proud he was a Bill.

I'm so happy to see he's got a statue.  Kalsu is exactly the kind of person that ought to be honored with a statue.  I never liked seeing statues dedicated to Confederate, slave-holding traitors.  And I'm not happy with some of the people we lionize and valorize these days.  As a country, we need the right heroes - selfless, caring, honor and duty-bound guys like Bob Kalsu.

Btw, I love BBFL's idea about a special section at Canton for players who served.

He is honored on Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

I would be quite annoyed if say Samuel skipped OTAs.  Or any of the first year players who declined an opportunity to build chemistry with the new QB.  If JA is there your ass better be there.

Well put, to me it’s a team thing!

Like I said attendance at OTA does not make you a team player nor does the absence make you a diva.

And if you are going to say missing OTAs makes you a diva then call every player that skips them a diva.

    Have a nice holiday weekend!

Still missing the point, you have a great holiday weekend too!

It is more about evolution and not generations.  The same people that want 100% attendance at OTAs probably are the same ones that want two a day training camp practices.  And still want four preseason games. And withhold water during camp to make real men out of them.

In the past guys used training camp to get in shape. Now guys train all year round. Rarely if ever do guys show up not ready to play.

I 100% agree with mandatory rookie camp and rookies should be mandated for OTAs.

I just don't believe in the things that traditionalist believe in. College football at the highest level has no preseason. Yes a bunch of team play patsies week 1 but a bunch of top 25 teams play each other week 1 too.  COVID year the quality of play was no different without preseason or OTAs.( I can't remember the exact number of events that got canceled or altered).

It's easy to just want to do the same thing over and over. Change is hard. But it can be for the better.

No offense but this post is gibberish! No one is advocating two a day practices or with holding water - trust me I experienced water discipline in practice not theory. Who knows what the value is of OTAs, I sure don’t nor do you, we ain’t there or suiting up! It’s a very simple concept - be a team player not a diva! That is the driving point you keep side stepping!

Who says you can not be a team player and not attend OTAs? They are mutually exclusive.

Maybe in your world, not in mine. Are you seriously suggesting Diggs has been the prototype team player, Minnesota, Buffalo and all ready starting in Houston.

Team event with 35-40 guys that won't be on the final roster.

Let me meet you half way. Should all veterans show up for OTAs? Yes it can't possibly hurt and it's only 3 days. Honestly if I was Diggs I would show up just so I didn't have to answer a question from a reporter as to why I didn't show up.

Does it have any impact on how they play on the field? No. Absolutely zero.

You should be an NFL executive you missed your calling, you could be the one to end OTAs. Sorry this has to be a generational thing!

How many Bills players have 4 seasons over 100 receptions and over 1000 yards receiving?

Want to know how much OTAs matter? McDermott canceled the last day and sent the players on field trips. They are absolutely meaningless for veterans.

Honestly I like your fire everybody posts better; not the point regarding OTAs and value, TEAM EVENT/TEAM EVENT/TEAM EVENT!!!!!! And the two of us have all ready gone round and round - Stefan Diggs is not even on the same planet as Andre Reed. I guess his 1000 yard seasons did not help in the clutch the last half of 2023!

Jmo of course, but if you’re trying to gel a real brotherhood together (that’s willing to go to the ends of the earth for one another) for the new season, you do what it takes and that includes all of the extra  stuff like OTA’s where groundwork/expectations and overall camaraderie starts. Given the roster churn every year, it’s just one of those things you gotta do! Otherwise aren’t you telegraphing a vibe of I’m better than everyone else who shows up? Again, jmo.

Exactly, still a team sport and you need that! Great post!

Bills player misses OTA - who cares its OTA's. Talk to me in September.

Diggs misses OTA's - thank god he is gone. What a bad look. How could anyone do this.

Poor poor Stefan, so misunderstood and everyone is against him!

Yes, we've got to admit that Stephon has been one of the best WR's in the league and was instrumental in Josh's growth as an elite NFL QB.  But, he likes to stir the pot, maintain the drama so that he's the center of attention.  Whether, its staying away from OTA's,  writing cryptic messages on Twitter, or sometimes just remaining silent, so that he keeps people guessing as to what is going on. Right now we don't need that kind of drama.

Great post and simple to the point, he is a narcissist and not a team player!

A lot of veteran players miss OTAs.  Its probably better for their longevity.  I would think he would want to at least start getting to know his teammates better and such though.

Or. maybe act like a member of a team, demonstrate commitment and like you stated get to know teammates! Kind of like we expect from ball players at all levels!

McCaffrey was traded during the season. So technically not his first season.

Diggs has already proven he can establish a relationship with a young QB

    What questionable history?

    Many of us love Diggs

I enjoyed most of his time and performance in Buffalo

Diggs did indeed establish a relationship with JA, but it cannot be denied that relationship went into the downward slope.

What questionable history, are you serious?

Finally, I dont hate Diggs nor do many who posted honest and truthful opinions regarding Diggs hate him, just not emotionally attached to him.

    1. CMC's first off-season with the 49ers he showed up for OTAs. Digg's first off-season he has not.

    2. I'm not questioning if Diggs CAN establish a relationship. I'm questioning if it's more prudent, practically and in terms of optics (not only to the press and fans but to teammates) if he shows up as soon as possible.

    3. "What questionable history?" Mea culpa. You got me there. Diggs has zero questionable history.

    4. Your statement does not negate mine that many do not like DIggs; both can be true.

    Excellent response!

You aren't saying he was not productive in the final 9 games do to missing an OTA in May are you?

Something obviously happened where the team decided not to feature him as much and he continuously asked to come of the field after every 2 to 3 plays.

Again you miss the point, ah forget it!

    It's really not.

As I recall, Stef got Stroud and the WRs together for an off-season workout.  Diggs is a pro.  He'll be in shape and ready for mandatory OTAs.

This is nothing more than Bills fans making something out of nothing, getting joy by ribbing a former player.

And OTAs were going to change that?

Ya, poor Stefan! Everyone is against him!

He should be there. Young team, young quarterback, and if Diggs is on the field who he think he is and the fans want to back him as the game changer they sought to get over the top, he should be ingratiating himself to the entire city.

Great post, it’s about more than Stefan!
