For some people, when the Bills win, it's the players, and when they lose, it's the coaches.

For some others, when the Bills win, well, they're supposed to, and when the Bills lose, it's because Beane didn't get the right players.

I'd love to talk to McDermott about his philosophy. I think it's similar to but not as well developed as Belichick's. I think McDermott believes deeply that 11 athletes playing as a fully integrated team will beat 11 athletes, some of whom are more talented than his, who are less well integrated.  I think we've seen it McDermott's defense for several years now. The Bills don't have a starter on defense, and haven't had a starter on defense for several years, who is the best player in the league at his position.  Not Hyde, not Poyer, not White, not Rousseau, not Milano. But McDermott gets his players to integrate and as a team to blanket the field to prevent explosive plays and to make big stops at the goal line and on fourth and one or two.

This season, he's got an offense like that.  They don't have a dominant receiver, and they don't have a dominant running back.  They have an excellent offensive line, but the talking heads talk about the Chiefs' interior linemen, not the Bills'. They rave about other offensive tackles, but not the Bills'.  But the Bills have a fully integrated offense that adjusts over and over again to take advantage of gaps in the defense, wherever they are.

What McDermott has done is pretty amazing. Next season, there will be a talent upgrade. The defense will improve, and the offense will, too.

Pretty amazing, except McDermott cost the Bills the number one seed, so I guess he needs to go. 😄

As always, great post and spot on! 13 - 3 at the moment and a perennial playoff team, I’ll take the last six years to include 13 seconds over 2000 - 2016 and I honestly believe we will win a SB. I’m just enjoying the ride!

I’m sick of hearing about the freaking Bengals. Give me them so we can pound them into submission otherwise, if the Bengals don’t make it and we win the Super Bowl, you’ll hear posters saying how lucky we were we didn’t face them.

You will get that no matter what!

Really? By the way, have you heard it’s the 60th Anniversary of our 1st League title?
By the way, Jackie Kemp was the Chargers QB before we stole him from waivers.

By the way, so was Paul McQuire..BTW

So much great history, BTW, the winning share for players under $3K! Great post as always by Chandler81!

My family also season ticket holders since 1960. In 1965 my father took me to a game, afterwards we went to the Lord Amherst for a buffet with the entire team, I got an autographed football. Stupidly I played with it until all the signatures wore off.

I had so much AFL and 1960's Bills memorabilia and lost it through the years, the greatest era of football ever!

    Great Bills history though.

    Yes you can!

I mean it seems like there is some double standards here. If he was laughing and smiling, he doesn’t care. If he cries, he is soft.

I don’t think you should cry unless it’s a major game. But would I make fun of Allen for crying? Of course not. I like players who care.

Because real men show no emotion when their friend suffers a major injury!!!

You know Allen and Burrow told the coaches after the Hamlin thing they didn’t want to play right?

Stroud has regressed this year but that’s a dumb reason to criticize him.

I agree. And he wasn’t the same guy but Diggs injury was big. The. Collins got hurt. Now Dell.

big regression and disappointing year. I can see him rebounding next year though. But Houston is as disappointing of a playoff team as there is.

    Great post, agree with all!

You've already seen it 6 times.

The definition of insanity is thinking a different result will happen when you try the same things over and over again.

Some people are built to raise their game in the biggest moments and some are built to shrink in the moment.

Lamar shrinks in the moment. Saying "We'll see" doesn't change the facts, only makes you look clueless.

I guess I'm clueless, but facts dont mean squat in January!

I bet you are new to the NFL!

Not really...the only thing you see is Lamar playing his worst football when it matters most. That's the most consistent thing he has done in his career. 9 TDs and 9 INTs in the playoffs is basically replacement level quarterbacking.

I'm not sure where he ranks in all time QB rating in the playoffs since the list I am looking only shows top 50, and he ain't in it.

    We will see!

Gugs, you’re right, but according to US Census statistics, 93% of America in some for. Identify themselves as Christian.  Some of those maybe elect to be agnostic, but in any occasion, when a friend or acquaintance I know is Jewish, I’ll always acknowledge to them Happy Hanukkah.  I work with more than enough Muslim amd Indian surgeons who are usually of their faiths and acknowledge their respective holidays as well.

It honestly doesn’t matter to me as I respect all faiths.  For me though, it is Merry Christmas, and refuse to say Happy Holidays.

Anyway, Merry Christmas all.  Enjoy your family and friends however you’d like and even Happy Festivis (saw the Seinfeld episode this morning)

I have spent alot of time in both Muslim and Buddhist countries, they have a deep appreciation and respect for Christmas and greet you with "Merry Christmas." Most westerners have a deep respect and appreciation for Ramadan and Tet, hell I have watched the NFL in some pretty religously diverse places over the holidays, all three!

It’s funny, I just looked and FanDuel has the Bills as the #3 favorite to win the Super Bowl. We are right behind the Chiefs and the Lions, two teams we have already beaten this year. We are very good. Why can’t people just enjoy that? One day it will be our turn.

I think it would be idiotic to start over. New coaches are nothing more than a gamble, just like draft picks. New coaches have new schemes, and new schemes require players with the proper skill set. It would be a setback in personnel and a gamble in coaches. No thank you.

    Could not agree more!

I think we are seeing now how important coaching is to player development. Josh Allen wouldn't be the play he is now without it. And now we see guys who were drafted in Allen's class like Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield who looked like busts playing well. Even Geno Smith looks good now.

    Great post!
