Hi Ravens fan, not to be too provocative but it would be interesting to get your opinion of josh Allen today?

Except for the long balls on 3rd and short early in the game, I thought he made good decisions. It’s hard to judge his accuracy due to weather and the pressure he was under, but with time he’s got all the tools to be dangerous. He’s also a moose.

i think the Bills and Ravens May have gotten the best of that QB class.

But I was more referring to the seemingly increasing bravado in your posts--vis a vis "good luck confusing this...UDFA center...that easily dispatched of Aaron Donald blindfolded".

Nothing like that was said either. It was an honest response to the suggestion that he could be rattled by a few blitzes, pointing out that he's had a pretty intense baptism.

    Enjoy the game.

Ok let me restate this.  Jackson doesn't have to read coverage on the defense.  All he has to read is what package the defense has on the field and his offensive system already  has a pre-determined answer.  From there its just execution.

Based on 12 games of observation, I think you underestimate his responsibilities, but whatever.

This is not to say that Jackson wont grow overtime, but he makes a lot of one read throws.  I don't believe he can really read a defense at all.  The scheme makes it easy for him.  Please don't take that as a knock.  For your team, this year, that works and he does a fantastic job running it.  I just don't think it's sustainable long term.  What might work great this season, because its new, might not work so well next season when DC's have a long time to watch tape and come up with an answer.    I also don't think Jackson can make every throw on the field.

Eventually his athleticism will wear down and DC's will catch up to the scheme.  He will have to evolve.  I am not saying that he can't.  I am just that he will have to.  Jackson is an incredible athlete.  He is certainly one of the best, if not the best, athletes on the field in most games.  It's just that I have seen these types of offenses go from explosive to not work very well.  This is a similar offense that was run in SF with Kaepernick.  Jackson runs it better and it has evolved some but still its similar.  That team fell apart after two years.

One coach said he's seen defenses throw all kinds of mixed coverages at Jackson, and assorted blitz packages, and Jackson "eats them for breakfast."

"He's an exceptionally quick thinker," the coach said.

This is a huge reason Jackson has been so successful throwing the football. It's not just the accuracy; it's digesting how the defense is attacking him and acting accordingly.

Just speculating on their backup center being able to handle the job. Get him nervous and that can be a huge advantage. Seen a lot of games go south when a center is making mistakes.

His first playing time was against Aaron Donald. His first start was against the top d-line in the league. Line calls are probably being handled by Marshal Yanda(6-time All-Pro). So good luck trying to rattle the rookie.

Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of the o-line’s performance against the Niners:

  6. In his first few starts last year, Lamar was staying in bounds and trying for extra yards on almost every carry. They trained him out of that. Allen needs to learn it isn’t worth it, even if you’re built like a truck.

bull####. Because of the style of offense he plays in he has wide open throwing lanes and receivers. To compare him to Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson to jumping to gun at this point.

I didn’t claim he’s as good. But he’s not like Vick, for example, who had little patience in the pocket.

Difference is Josh is showing he can be a pocket passer. To this point Lamar is a running quarterback who throws. Greg Roman has done an excellent job scheming to Lamars strengths, but Jackson will need to evolve to have longevity in the league.

Lamar is just as much a pocket passer as Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson; probably more so than Wilson, who’s spending a lot of time running for his life. If a team is able to shut down his running, he’s more than capable of beating them from the pocket.

BTW, the hardest hits he’s taken have been in the pocket, including low hits and blows to the head.

Watson is elusive, but I think Allen is more so. Hard to say for sure either way. I hope we're running enough that you guys wont be able to key off on the blitz.

I have said several times that this feels like a good matchup (maybe that's me being too prideful of our chances) - but who do you think would be the best matchup for you guys across the whole NFL? The 49ers obviously were a good one, but they didn't really have an answer for Lamar (also kinda a bad sample with that weather)

Unfortunately, the Browns and Steelers seem to have the right personnel to match up with this offense. That’s 4 games every year.

Didn't the Ravens already release him though? Or told him he was free to explore free agency? Something along those lines, I may be mistaken.

He was a FA, and wanted a multi-year deal. The Ravens couldn’t pay what the Bills offered, so his time with the Ravens clearly helped him get what he wanted.

If that's the case then, Allen will likely have Beasley to rely on or he may even get away himself racking up more rushing yards. In any event, it will be very interesting to see the way these 2 teams game plan against each other.

They were very disciplined with their rush lanes vs. the Texans, and sacked Watson 7 times, even though he’s quite mobile. They can’t leave lanes for Allen to run.

  11. Ravens Center is Patrick Mekari, a rookie UDFA. Line calls may have shifted to 6-time All-Pro RG Marshal Yanda, so no problem there. Mekari played 3/4 of the Rams game, where Aaron Donald got shut down, and played well in his first start against the Niners tough d-line.

I was not aware of the Ravens propensity to Blitz and certainly not Josh's success since week 5 .. Next Gen stats from Ravens site .. very interesting.

It’s been said that the Ravens “blitz coming off the bus”. They don’t generate enough pressure using four, so they’ll go five or six most of the time.
