That will happen. I have seen it with the Jets and Giants. Giants Stadium would get really loud, but MetLife is as loud as a library. When many of the real fans get priced out from going to the games then this is what happens.

When did we get past the Chiefs in the playoffs. Also, the Lions in the NFC will be another challenge from that conference.

    We Beat KC in 93!

    Wrong analysis

We lost to the Giants because of Levy not reigning in Kelly

We lost the next three because the NFC was the far superior conference and Washington and Dallas were bigger, stronger, and faster.

We lost to KC in the 13 second game because McD choked.

We lost the next three playoff games becuase the team was gassed after Hamlin, injuries on defense and Bass, and then this year because Brady sucked and Allen played a B+ game.

I've been a McDermott critic since 13 seconds and I would have fired him last year in favor of Harbaugh or Belichick.

Now there is no one better to get. Run it back one more year. 2025 is mostly on Beane. He has to find a #1 WR and fix the DL and secondary. He will have the cap space and draft capital to do both.

Fire McDermott don’t waste Josh’s Prime!

This is a bit of my own therapy.....

Regardless of how you break down the game, for two straight years, we’ve had the ball down by three with our number-one-rated offense, our Superman quarterback, and a chance to tie or win the game. In both years, we failed to do so. It’s difficult to place a lot of blame on a guy who’s literally one of the only reasons we even made it to this point. But the question that we have been asking, and that we all want to know, is: why can’t we get past a certain point in the playoffs? To me, the type of quarterback Josh Allen is is at least part of that story—certainly not all of it—and clearly we wouldn’t even be here in the first place without him. Josh is the most talented quarterback in the NFL. He is the most valuable quarterback in the NFL, but he’s more of a sandlot-style player. His greatest strengths aren’t reading defenses, making pre-snap reads, delivering the hot ball quickly, or running a systematic offense. He’s not like Brady, Montana, or Burrow. And when you’re in moments where you have one drive and it needs to be executed perfectly, his style of quarterback play, in my view, is not optimal. In both years he very well could have overcome it as both of these drives we had a wide receiver or tight end drop a critical ball that could’ve changed the outcome of the game. So we this isn’t on Josh so don’t twist my position that way. Not the optimal style of play for those moments from my view. That is all, we lost as a team.

    Speaking on which……

We’ve missed on several first-round draft choices for multiple years—Elam, Kincaid—and while I wouldn’t say Coleman's is a straight-up miss, when the opportunity was there to potentially draft Worthy or trade up for Thomas, we chose to go with the most risky option: a player that many people were staying away from because of separation issues. We SHOULD be asking questions about our draft strategy. We’ve done a good job in the mid-to-late rounds finding starting-level talent, but we’ve failed to find elite players, elite difference-makers. Further the roster construction at times has been a bit of a head scratcher. We made a great selection in Shakir. He’s shown to be a great YAC guy and a valuable slot receiver. Then we draft Kincaid, who is not a full-time, run-blocking, pass-catching tight end—he’s a receiving tight end. And guess what? You’re not going to be splitting him out wide very often. He’s almost always going to occupy one of your slot roles. Then what do we do in the offseason? We sign Curtis Samuel, who’s another slot-type guy. If that wasn’t enough, if you review Coleman’s tape and some of his advanced stats from MSU and Florida State, you'd see he performed best out of the big slot role, which negated some of his issues, like trouble getting off the ball and separation issues. There was no cohesion in these decisions. There were no complementary wide receivers. It almost felt like when Dorsey called plays, he was calling each one individually, as if the play before had no impact on the next. It felt like we just decided to take players we thought were good and figured we’d make it work later.

On the defensive side, I’ve been one of the most vocal critics of McDermott, but I’m tired of it. He’s our coach, and it seems likely he’s not going anywhere for a very long time, right or wrong. I’m tired of 80% of my posts crapping on him. We made some stops in yesterday’s game, and we adjusted pretty effectively in the second half. I trust him as a coach who can stabilize a team, even though I don’t like his system. Crap on him or not, at the end of the day, Kansas City has had incredible success against his system—more so than any other team they’ve faced in the playoffs. Those are facts. Kansas City performs exceptionally well against our defense, especially in the playoffs.

We’ve been at this for eight years, and we just don’t have the horses on defense. We lost both of our starting safeties and replaced them with virtually nobody. We have no depth at corner. We had Milano, who we knew wasn’t going to be ready for most of the season, and Bernard, who was a good mid-round pick. We don’t have any players who are top 8 at their positions, outside of Taron Johnson. Maybe Benford, but we just don’t have the horses. So regardless of whether you want to call McDermott’s scheme trash, and it certainly looks that way against Kansas City, he won’t be able to execute it with this talent level.

Then there’s the play-calling on offense. We’ve become so dependent on the tush push that we didn’t develop any other short-yardage plays. The only other short-yardage play we had was basically a speed option with Josh and Cook, which worked for a touchdown, one of the most amazing runs I’ve seen from a Bills player in years. But that’s about it. Look at how Kansas City schemed their bootlegs and short-yardage plays against us. When you’re dealing with a heavily compacted defense, if the end is not disciplined (and ours wasn’t), it’s game over. We had no short-yardage plays outside of the one we saw. When you’re going to scheme plays offensively to essentially put yourself in short-yardage situations, you should have a full arsenal of 1- to 2-yard plays at your disposal. But we just said, "Well, screw it, because we’re good at this." Some could argue that Philadelphia is similar, but I’ve never seen Jalen Hurts get stuffed on his own 1-yard line, fumble the ball, and nearly cost his team the game. The second Josh got stuffed on the first sneak for the 2-point conversion, that should’ve been a wake-up call. The push from Kansas City, in addition to Josh’s tentativeness, showed it was a mistake to keep running that play. I don’t care if he got the first down or not—time has told us that you cannot leave it in the hands of the refs.

We have a long season ahead and a lot of thinking to do. It sucks, and I don’t know what the answer is. We have some good players, but part of the issue when you re-sign a player whose good but not great is that they occupy that role for a significant time, and you don’t get the chance to get another great player in that spot because you think you’re good enough. It really feels like this team needs a reset, and I don’t know if that’s McDermott or not. As I said, I’m not going to continue talking about him after this post. It’s too much negativity. But this team is starting to feel like it needs the plug pulled. Not because it hasn't been very successful or McD sucks or bla bla, but more because it needs a violent shake-up to go further than it has. If that costs us a year to rebuild, I don’t care. This regime and these players have failed to get it done. Eventually, we need to figure out how to stop that from happening. You can’t just keep saying, "Well, Kansas City is the best, and we lost to the best, so that’s how it is." No. We were inches away from beating the best multiple times. A little better scheme, a little better execution, and a little better roster would’ve made the difference. It was that close, but we failed again. Perhaps we just keep running it back, I just don't know how that is the answer. But when I say blow it up it's not out of hate for these guys. I just don't know what the path forward can be.

Love you all and I wish we didn’t have to go thru this.

Great article-McDermott is not in Coach Reeds level  nir in Spags level in defense--the way we started against KC was Outrageous-they were playing scared not prepared imo! Until we change the Head Coach Buffalo will never win a Super Bowl!

Pairing a legitimate running game with Josh Allen has been what I've hoped for and we haven't gotten there yet.

The final half of last season with Brady calling the plays is the closest we've been.  He became coordinator on November 14th after that horrific loss to the Broncos and the Bills proceeded to win seven of the next nine games.  There only loses were the Philly game the week Bradly took over, and the 3 point loss to the Chiefs in the playoffs.  We began to run the ball effectively and the offense really clicked.

This preseason has seen a lot of questions about the Bills' receiving corps and the passing game.   What I'm excited about is the running game with this O-Line and Cooks and Ray Davis.  If they can run the ball as well or better than they did down the stretch last season, then I think this team will be very dangerous.

I don't want the Bills to become a "running team" while they have Josh Allen under center.  What I do want is for an effective running game to put opposing defenses in an unwinnable situation every snap where they can either stack the box and get beat by Allen's arm, or drop back into Nickle or Dime and have Cooks and Davis and our TE heavy sets run the ball down their throats.

“ 13 Seconds” McDermott will Forever OWN That Moment until Buffalo Wins a Championship! Closest they’ve been in 33years! Go Bills!

I think part of it for me is that while officiating has been bad for awhile, this season seems quite a bit worse then last season.  And I don't neccisarily think it's a case of this team or that team overall, but how the league wants things to play out week to week based on trends, ratings and gambling lines.

I'm not saying I know something for certain.  Just saying things don't look right this season, all around.

I feel it is rigged. I gamble for fun and Watching how the over and unders always fall on 1/2 point wins or losses is uncanny. How about how the Buffalo line in Sunday night lowered to 2.5 underdog - look @ final score-Bills lose by 1/2.point!

Levi Wallce is buried behind Patrick Peterson and once projected starter Ahkello Witherspoon. Joey Porter, Jr. comes in with lots of fanfare and will be shoved down everyone's throats Tevon Diggs style, while fellow rookkie Cory Trice is also in Pittsburgh.

He is owed $5.5mm while a hit of only $1.5mm.

If he was cut should we consider bringing him back to Buffalo as a depth CB behind White, Elam, Jackson and Benford (who maybe moving to safety?).

I think what that game did was expose our weaknesses. Both sides of our lines were beaten up and down. Offensively, we realized that we’d been leaning on a crappy O-Line all season, but Allen made up for it.  In this game, Allen was off, and we suffered the consequences. We had it coming.  Allen and Diggs need help, and our other players need to step up.

On the D-Line, we realized that we pretty much sucked without Von. Injuries compounded the problem. And our D scheme was pitiful… playing soft, allowing QB’s to get the ball out quickly, and not allowing our linemen to get to the opposing QB.  Our secondary was decimated..

I think we’ll be back in the mix.. but definitely tempering expectations.

I agree Not Drinking the kool aid like last year! Love the Bills but Cincinnati & KC are better than us Now!

Well, I agree to a point, but it's understandable.  What happens every year at this time is people are looking back on the season and talking about what didn't work.  Only time that won't happen is if the Bills win the Super Bowl.

So, what didn't work?   The defense and the offense let the team down in the playoffs.  Why?   Well, that's what people are talking about.  Not very productively, in my opinion, because I think the problems are much more nuanced than people here seem to think, but that's just my opinion.

I am amazed, however, that people think McDermott is the problem.   He's probably a top-five head coach, and people are complaining about him be too soft, or too oriented to the defense, or something.  I don't get that at all.

Shaw-have you watched McDermotts in game decisions last 5 years? How about last year-13 seconds- this year in the divisional round- andYou think he’s a Top 5 Coach……LOL!

Check the board for the first time since the Bengals game.. And you’re telling me that so far 70% of people (19-8 in the poll currently) think there’s a better chance that we don’t win a championship under McBeane and Allen?

It was a rough playoff loss and embarrassing coaching, true.

McDermott is still a top 8 coach in the league, true.

Allen is still a top 3 quarterback in the league, true.

McDermott & Allen are still a top 5 QB/Coach combo in the league, true.

The first statement can be true at the same time as the next three. It’s unfortunate the way we lost, and it was outright embarrassing for the organization and the city & fans that invest their lives into this team for 5-6 months of the year, and others that do year round. But the amount of criticism I’ve seen surrounding Allen/McBeane since this loss is borderline unfathomable. Confidence and faith should still be very high that these guys bring us atleast 1 Lombardi, if not more.

I was having the same meltdown the day after the game, and maybe even a couple after that. But come on, it’s 2 weeks later. Level yourselves. The Bills are still in a very elite class of the NFL and have turned into a model organization. It’ll come.

And on that note, I guess I’ll have to keep TBD out of my search bar a little longer if this is still the direction conversations are trending 😭

Bills are NOT  in the Top 5 anymore!  With Frazier as DC and McDermott as Coach- we’ll Never WIN A LOMBARDI!!

It really depends on how honest they are in their self evaluations.

Lesley Frazier cost us the Super Bowl last year “13Seconds” and Why did Anybody feel he would improve this year!! We needed Vic Fangio but he’s now  on Miami! Need a Real DC not yesterdays  DCs- need fresh perspective on Defense from younger hungrier coordinators!

I know, I know, it's "everybody's fired up and venting on TSW" week.

As I sit here this morning and read all of the talk of the Bills not surrounding Josh Allen with enough weapons, I'm getting irritated. Don't get me wrong, they could have used another good receiver because Davis and McKenzie didn't step up as hoped, and they obviously need OL reinforcements....BUT...

The Bills had two very speedy, potentially potent weapons on their offensive roster, and they didn't use them. I'm talking about James Cook and Nyheim Hines.

All offseason, it was clearly a top priority to add a pass catching back with speed. They ultimately drafted one with a high pick AND traded draft capital for a second one. Both guys, Cook and Hines, were ultimately wasted in an un-creative offense that seemed to completely refuse to utilize their unique talents.

Ok, so you want to send Diggs and Davis deep every play? Fine. But for an offense that supposedly "lacks weapons underneath" and lacks weapons in general, the inability and refusal to use Cook and Hines as pass catching threats, or to use their speed to stretch the defense horizontally, or to provide pre-snap eye candy that gives the defense a moment of pause...it's just outrageous. You lack talent in the slot? Fine. How about splitting Nyheim Hines into the slot and actually using him as a receiver, not just a never-thrown-to decoy? You're telling me Cook and Hines can't consistently win routes against linebackers?!

Cook, Hines, and heck, even throw Isaiah McKenzie in there. All of these guys have speed, quickness, and can turn a 3 yard play into a 30 yard play with their explosiveness. Even if Dorsey had done nothing else but use them constantly in pre-snap motion (I think we saw this ONE WEEK with Hines, and then never again) and the occasional jet sweep, there HAS to be some value in having fast running backs who can catch the ball well. How about some Texas routes? How about literally ANYTHING designed to get these guys open in space?

The thing that worries me going forward is that even if the Bills DO add more potent offensive weapons, Dorsey won't have the faintest clue how to use them. He certainly didn't seem to know how to use Cook or Hines. Putting up 10 points in the most important game of the year while explosive guys like Hines and Cook largely ride the pine? Unacceptable. Ridiculous. Unconscionable. Here's hoping Dorsey takes a good, long look in the mirror this offseason and comes back much improved next year.

Great article!! I agree 100% we Really missed Daboll!!

This place is frankly depressing, so put any reasons to be optimistic about next season for the Bills here.

    1. Tre White could very well be back to his regular All Pro self with an offseason of rest and a full training camp.

    2. It’s possible we have Hyde and Poyer back there for game 1 next season (we’ll see if Poyer is too expensive, but with his injuries he might not be).

    3. Gabe Davis and Ed Oliver will be in contract years next season. They might ball out to get paid.

    4. We have Josh Allen, the best QB in the league (or second or third best, point remains).

    5. Saffold won’t be playing for us next year. There is no way his replacement isn’t better, even if it’s some third round rookie.

    6. Elam, Shakir and Cook will all have longer leashes next season. They could show out in a big way. We saw glimpses all season with them.

    7. Von Miller is a machine, you know he will rehab and do everything he can to be 100% for our playoff push next year.

    8. We have a first round pick which could become a stud playmaker. We kept our draft capital.

I’m sure there are more, what do you think?
