I always enjoyed the big body that just absorbs blockers while guys like Oliver and Harrison penetrate and disrupt and LB"s like Edmunds get room to work. Yeah the money looks bad but IMO there is a cascading domino effect that is hard to measure unless you watch ever ounce of tape and know how to decipher it

then when that day comes its like money in the bank Star comes off the books and that helps us sign future studs when there rookie deals are coming to an end

I agree, he's a contributing place holder. I think Star still has juice left in the tank, I'm just concerned about why so many analysts think poorly of him.

Yet he is massive and should continue to demand double teams, so I guess there is no need to worry.

Just a young team learning to play together. How much can we blame on Kyle losing a step, Rookie Harrison and Edmunds learning the ropes

That's a good point, I didn't think about it like that. Yeah ok, I guess we'll see how the new guy in the middle and star mesh and hope we can continue to build on last years success.

teams ran on us more because our pass defense was number 1.

    True and False.

Our pass defence was number 1 defending yardage, not TD's, we didn't have the most INT's either.

There is a definite correlation with defending the pass and having the other team run on you more,

yet Minnesota allowed less TD's in both departments and so did Jacksonville and they were 2-3 behind us in pass yardage allowed.

    Is that just bad luck?

  4. and yo, the bills were one of the worst teams defending the run last year, so I don't really care what LoAx says about him.

    https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2018/opp.htm

We allowed 17 rushing TD's and allowed a mediocre 1839 rush yards.

We also allowed 111 rushing first downs (lack of urgency) and apparently, teams loved running against us. (9th most rushed on team last year.)

The hyperlinks in my previous post are not able to be clicked anymore. Dunno why.

Absence of Kyle Williams is one thing, yet when you look at Stars production you can't say his lack of contributions arent partly why.

And yet, he has exactly the same snap count that he had on the Panthers top SB-contending D in 2015.

Perhaps that snap count is not a sign of declining play.

Perhaps you could defend your viewpoint that Star's play is mediocre with something besides his snap count?

Or perhaps not.  Please see Happy Gilmore's post above quoting Zo and Frazier on Lotulelei's contributions to the line.  Perhaps he is doing what is asked, and doing it well.

Yeah maybe, and perhaps that's why WalterFootball had him ranked as a 2-star free agent in 2018.

I just think we could do better for the money we are spending.

    https://walterfootball.com/freeagents2018DT.php

Star Lotulelei, DT, Panthers. Age: 28. star.gifstar.gif
    Signed with Bills (5 years)

Star Lotulelei was a first-round pick in 2013, but never lived up to that billing. He has just been a below-average player for most of his career, but has played well enough at times to warrant a two-star rating.

    https://www.profootballfocus.com/nfl/players/star-lotulelei/7795

And PFF also has him ranked as an incredibly average big man, tagging him with a 59.9 rating

Like you said though, perhaps he is doing what is asked and doing it well.

Why?  Are we up against the cap?  He serves a purpose, and we have the money. And we will have plenty next year. He’ll be good with Oliver too.

No, quite the opposite. I just don't think he is worth the money, and his play will likely continue to decline while we throw millions at him.

I think playstyle and personality wise, Lotulelei and Oliver will not mesh well. He's essentially the opposite of Kyle Williams.

Also, I think keeping him around sends a bad message to our new rookie 1st round draft pick that you can play mediocre, yet as long as you're a 1st round player organizations will pay you top dollar.

Hmmm.. Ok, Just tone down the hardazz rhetoric and maybe you’ll be fine. No reason for private convo. You’re one of many thousands of Bills fans to tune in everyday and have for many years. Since you don’t seem to understand, let this be your motto: NOBODY respects a badazz noob with a chip on their shoulder.

    alright

Go back and read your introductory 94 posts, then come back and answer your own question.

I have, and I just read the hard rules and soft rules.

    I don't see the rule I broke, and I didn't even swear.

I said it does not make sense that Gore would no longer be with the team after training camp considering how all the staff and media are building hype for our new RB.

I also added he had more yards than any other back we had last season. How is that against the rules?

I would rather discuss this via DM, yet my account wouldn't let me DM you.

  9. If Tyler Kroft was able to go back to Rutgers next year does he put up a better stat line than Hockenson or Irv Smith Jr. did last year?

Does his NFL experience make him arguably more valuable than either of those names?

In a way, we have our Hock (Kroft) and our Fant (Knox)
and when you compare their intangibles it becomes scary similar.

    - Kroft and Hock both ran their 40's in the 4.70's (4.67, and 4.70 respectively)
    - Kroft and Hock are both 6'5

    - Knox and Fant are speedier TE's.
    - Knox and Fant both ran their 40's in the 4.50's (4.54, and 4.50 respectively)

Could be a very ideal situation. Looking forward to seeing how our new Red Zone assassins produce.

It is a production league-if a guy produces he keeps his job. In fact it is disrespectful and demoralizing to the entire team to keep anybody who can't produce-they brought in Frank Gore because he looks like he can still play-it has nothing to do with Barry Sanders records. The goal is to win.

yeah yeah like he's gonna sign with a team where they can't guarantee him snaps and help him go into retirement at his pinnacle? nah brother, he would have signed somewhere else if he didn't think he would get ample touches to solidify his accolades.

The top RBs are gonna play-nobody cares about individual records, etc. There is no seniority bonus in the NFL.

Like I said, he had more yards than any of our other RBs last year and he's 35. He's here to act as a player-coach, and break some records, no need to act fake about what is.
There is this thing called respect in the NFL, it's not an internet forum, 14748 yards + being 400 away from breaking Barry Sanders record is not the same as 14748 posts and thinking he'll be cut so we can not make the playoffs once again and maybe win an extra game.

They can't stay healthy.  I'll be fine with them playing in sub packages where the wear and tear will be far less.

Yeah Murphy and Ford aren't likely to make the team.  PS maybe.

    It's ok

    Because he's nothing special.

Maybe, but only if he can't cut it as a QB.

Foster can do what McKenzie does.  I just think there's too much (potential) talent to keep McKenzie.  But we'll see.  And I think they keep 7 WR's as Roberts will be used primarily on returns.

At least we've heard of him before and he has some decent tape. More than I can say about Marcus Murphy or Keith Ford.

Saying it's possible that a 35 year old RB doesnt end up on our final roster (never said he'd be cut) out of a room of 6 RBs isnt that hot of a take.

It is when last season he rushed for more yards than the other 5 + is a lock for the hall of fame and he's obviously trying to break all-time rushing leader records.

He's less than 1000 yards away from Barry Sanders. Let him eat.

I dont think anyone can speak in absolutes about what is going to happen in the future in the NFL. We'll see.

Its pretty wild hot take, like they have Cody Ford telling us what it's like to be blocking for the RB you think is gunna be cut, makes no sense and you're looking like a bookies best friend

Yeldon isn’t a lock to make the roster this year

this is true, yet I can't think of an actual reason that they would cut him either.

Oh, I sure hope so. But it's the NFL, and every year there are things that dont work out like we expect them to. This is just one of those things I have a hunch about.

Just like it's basically statistically impossible that every OL we brought in will work out well. More like maaaaaybe half of them when real life kicks in.

I think the equivalent combos are Shady/Gore :: Singletary/Yeldon. Singletary being quick and shifty like Shady, and Yeldon being more of our power runner like Gore.

Ha, not sure what happen, that post was littered with typos

what's the rush to put Yeldon and Singletary on the field this year?

do you think we are currently in a position to win the super bowl?

    this is a development year.

Im not sure Gore makes it through camp. Just a feeling/hunch. I like having him and Shady around to sow the young guys how to be pros, but not cure he holds up to stick around this year.

nah b, they've asked every draft pick how it feels to play w/ the two current player-coach RBs. He might not play a tonne, he's gonna be here at the beginning of 2020 though.
