  1. Thanks for this thread, OP. And I know I'm a softie, but cutting Tre is hitting me hard. His hard work, great play, and infectious positive energy will be sorely missed. It was the right move to move on from him this offseason but he gave all he had for this team and that will always mean something to me. The perfect definition of a process guy. Thanks for everything Tre.

  2. Sorry, y'all, this one was on me. I hang a Bills ornament on my parents' Christmas tree every year. This year we hung it up when the Bills were 6-6. The team promptly went on a winning streak. I made my parents promise me that they would leave the tree up for the duration of the playoffs, because I knew moving the ornament could have catastrophic consequences. Unfortunately, they lied. They took the tree down and I was forced to move the ornament. While the team was somehow still able to beat the Fins and the Steelers, the bad juju from moving the ornament became too much to overcome and the team faltered and lost to the hated Kansas City Chiefs. I will no longer trust my parents in any way, shape or form whatsoever and I promise to do better next year so that we can enjoy a Super Bowl Championship.

If we talked about this team anytime in September or October, I think it would have been hard to find a poster here who didn't think we were either the best team in the league, or at least even with the best.  We went to the house of the eventual SB champ, and beat them, without any breaks or anything flukey.   We had some blowouts.  The offense was clicking on all cylinders, and the defense - at that time - was pretty smothering.

Our losses were all 1 score, 1 play.  Cincy in the playoffs was the 1st time that any team took it to us, and just beat us up and down the field, all game.  THAT is now how many here now view the team. Very flawed, and much weaker than we thought.

But ultimately, it was just one game.  Teams lay eggs, and given how emotional the last month of the season was, it's easy to see in hindsight how that affected the team (and the Bengals were kind of the opposite, playing w/ a real chip on their shoulder).  They also may just be a bad match-up for the Bills, which I'm hoping will change w/ the change in DC.  I think Frazier's defense was very effective against quite a few teams - but against Cincy & those receivers, you have to be aggressive, and challenge them more at the line.

I don't buy the whole "we were already behind the top teams and now we're falling further behind" narrative of FA.  When healthy, we're still right there w/ the best teams - and we're rolling everything back minus Edmunds, and with a new guard, a faster receiver than we've had in awhile, and the draft still ahead.

I don't see us taking a step back in '23.  We'll be right there w/ the top teams.

I strongly agree OP. The fact is that if we had started the season with no Von Miller, no DaQuan Jones, no Micah Hyde, and an injured Josh Allen we would not have been the overwhelming Super Bowl favorites. Heck, we probably wouldn't even have been the favorites at all. Was the loss disappointing? Of course it was. Does it dampen my expectations or excitement for the future of this team? Not one bit.

  4. I'm in 3 leagues. First one is an auction keeper league where I made the playoffs as the sixth seed. Josh Allen has been clutch for me but I would have missed the playoffs if I didn't pick up Justin Fields and start him over Allen when Fields played Detroit and Josh played Minny. Allen Robinson was by far my biggest bust on that team.

My second one is a standard snake redraft where I had the overall #1 pick. I picked CMC but my team was floundering until I picked up Fields and CMC got traded to the 9ers. I made the playoffs as the 3 seed.

My third league is a league where you have only your favorite team's players. It's kinda a joke league, obviously, but it's surprisingly fun and I've won it the past two years. We have one more week left before the playoffs and I'm currently the 2 seed and only 4 teams make the playoffs. I could get bumped out of contention entirely if things go wrong this week. Fingers crossed!

    No, that's not right.

Engaged or not, if he's downfield before the pass is thrown it's a penalty.

The rule is to prevent confusion for the defense, so they don't see lots of guys downfield that they think they have to cover. It's got nothing to do with blocking.

Though officially they should call this penalty quickly, it's almost never actually called until someone is five or more yards downfield. You can see from the Cover1 footage that Brown stays within about 3 yards of the LOS until well after the ball is thrown.

He can be downfield if he's an eligible receiver. I didn't realize he was covered up at the line so he couldn't have reported as eligible. I appreciate the clarification.

Man, that first TD pass play to Gilliam, how did we not get flagged for Spencer Brown being so far downfield? He was as deep as the LBs!

    (Good teams are lucky)

It's only a penalty if he's engaged as a blocker downfield. Since he wasn't blocking anyone he's allowed to go wherever he wants as long as he reported as an eligible receiver. We snuck him downfield to block in the second level after setting up the screen.

  7. For me it's the Packers. Early season struggles always should have been expected for them offensively with the loss of Adams, with how green the rest of their receiving corps is, and with David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins still hurt. Their defense had a bad first half but they have a ton of talent and looked much better in the second half. They'll be fine.
