  1. Moorman was the best player on the field for the Bills yesterday. That's generally a bad sign, in my book. Still looking for the passer rating number, to confirm whether or not his was higher than Bledsoe's ...

How bad has it gotten? Well, they actually ran an offensive play with NO quarternack on the field at one point! The direct snap to Moulds in the backfield. I understand the sentiment involved in trying that, but it also tipped the Raiders that it was a run play. Thus, 3 yards.

We were robbed on the "holding started at the one" call, too. That was a TEXTBOOK safety. The BLOCKING started at the one, damnit! The call the ref made violated both the INTENT and the letter of that rule. A Bills defender was in the end zone charging at the QB for an impending end zone sack, and was clearly tackled by the Raider offensive lineman two to three yards deep in the end zone. Jesus, that's exactly why the rule exists. To call it the way they did was a major stretch.

While I still (believe it or not) haven't written off Drew, I was sickened by what I thought was two disturbing things: 1) Rob-like pocket awareness, and 2) Ferguson-like hanging of the head. The first may be attributable to the fact that a "pocket" per se did not exist all day. The second, well... If I can see it, don't you think everyone else can too? I was disappointed by that. I saw no "fire" in the guy's eyes. I saw a lot of looking down, and it's always been a belief of mine that the Q is like the captain on a ship... the crew must never see fear & indecision in the captain's demeanor. But that's just me.

Last rant: Is it just me, or does everyone else see the genius of giving up on Ruben Brown? Yeah, this line is so terrific, we don't need Ruben. Probably wouldn't even have started...

  3. The trampoline girls were way too heavilly clothed... I am only saying this out of genuine concern for the young ladies' health. It was a hot day, and string bikinis would have been a much more sensible choice as a precaution against heat stroke... You know me ... Health first!

  4. I would love to see the first drive be a sustained one with an 80/20 run/pass play ratio. Willis has the size to go inside, too. Travis outside right, Willis between the tackles, Travis sweep left, then - on first-down, the play action pass. Repeat steps one through three as needed. Apply liberally. Two-back formation required, fullback not needed. If you have any questions regarding the safe use of this product, you may call us at 1-800-RUN-THE-FOOTBALL ...

  5. I am still a little surprised that all they did was move it to Saturday. The ETA for Ivan is supposed to be EARLY Monday, and that seems like cutting it a bit close. (We're talking about dangerous weather here.) I mean, sure, I wouldn't mind seeing the Dolphins getting "blown out" of their own park, but this is ridiculous ...

  6. The NFL can be proud of that game as a national opener. Great game!

-- I hated (obviously) that the Pats won. But I love that the two guys who were feuding not so long ago each took it upon himself to screw up on the last two Colt plays. Manning changes a play twice at the line, takes thirty seconds to get it off, then does a Todd Collins against a strong side blitz and moves the kick way back ... Vandy then has a chance (reasonable chance from 48) to show Manning what he means about "that fire, that drive" and just misses the kick.

    -

-- When I heard that the Dolphins game had been moved to Saturday, I immediately had this dream of us going to the opener Sunday with both the Patriots and Dolphins 0-1 by Sunday. Oh, and the Patriots with Corey Dillon now, finally, actually do scare me...

    -

-- Final thought. I hope they do this "Thursday night opener" thing forever. No better way to start the NFL season ... the whole country watching one national game. This year, we got a gem of a game, too ...

  7. OK, I'll be the optimist ...

BEST CASE: Bledsoe nails "Comeback Player Of The Year" ... The Bills pass to set up the run regularly ... late in games, Willis regularly makes tired defenders look silly ... The Bills go 10-6, and grab the Wild Card. Then, with the veteran QB and the running game to tame January, we surprise everyone by going one or two deep into the dance!

WORST CASE: Bledsoe gets hurt, Bush gets re-elected, and the world ends.

    Pick one.
