Getting a player like Von Miller would take this defense to an elite level. Having an elite pass rusher is just what we need.

    Oh yeah, and an offense...

That's a lot of years to have him. Then let him walk. He'll be old by then.

Agree 100%.  For the past decade and a half the front office of the Bills has not built this team to beat the patsies.  An elite defense is what you need to beat an elite offense. That and an O-line.

It can work, but solid teams are built through drafting depth.

I agree with your first statement, but you kind of contradict yourself with the second. This team needs solid OL players right now. Sign the FA's that you think are going to step in and make a difference from the beginning. The draft is such a crap shoot; if you get two starters from a draft your doing great. We need four at least. (OL and WR) get best skill position available in the 1st and 2nd round.

If the Jets end up with Cousins, it'll definitely shake up FA and the draft. Takes a contender for QB out of the top ten. Does anyone know if the Broncos are wanting to draft a QB? I know they need a starter and have their heart set on Cousins. If the Broncos  don't get him, who do they like in the draft?

I heard that the Bills already have a deal in place with a LB, but I have no idea who it is.

Maybe somebody who actually has insight can tell us.

    Williamson? Maybe.

Might be bringing Nigel Bradham back.

Last time I was this excited was 2004 draft. I just knew that was the year and the Bills were going to do everything in their power to get a QB. Instead of giving up a couple extra picks we landed JP Losman instead of Ben Roethlisberger.

I literally yeld NOOOOOO as loud as I could. Still hate to think about it.

I wouldn't rule out the Redskins, I know they got Alex Smith, maybe they draft for the future? Cards at 15, Ravens and Chargers may want to move up too.

You're right the Cards are at 15 I stated they were at 11. Phins are at 11.  I agree the Ravens and Chargers need to plan for the future. Do they trade up this year to do it? I don't think so.

If you want "your guy" and it's not who Cleveland will pick, need to get ahead of the Broncos. If you have 2-3 guys and your content with any of them you still run a risk being the Cleveland, Denver and Jets likely all go QB Rd1.

Cousins signing with Denver/Jets, would of course alter that. As of now can't bank on it happening.

This FA period is going to have a larger impact on the draft and the QB position, than ever before. Next week is going to be great.  There's going to be a lot of college QB's talking to their agents and saying "$chit, there goes another million!"

So you're saying without trades (there will be) and if Cleveland takes 2 not QBs (they are taking QB...promise) and if the Broncos get Cousins (even though Minny is reported to have him on lock) we could have whatever QB is leftover, you know AFTER 2 of our division rivals get their pick?

    Cool.

Oh there will be trades, who trades up to get a QB? My point is; there are only a couple of teams that need to get a QB in the first round. (depending on what happens in FA.) My other point is; we don't need to trade up in the first to get a quality QB. Do the Phins take a QB in the first? They definitely need another one, but in the first? Probably not.

Teams usually trade up to jump a team that is about to draft a QB. In the top 10 I see the Browns, Giants and Jets that need a QB and the Giants may take Barkley.

I think Oakland's phone is going to be blowing up with calls.

I don't know if anyone moves to 10 to get a QB. Jets are at 6 and the Cards are at 11. If the Phins still like Tannehill as the starter they don't take a guy in the first. Who goes up to 10 to get a QB?

  7. Just took a look at the draft order.  Lets say the Broncos "win" the Cousins sweepstakes. I see maybe 4 QB's going before our pick at 21. Without any trades, and assuming we take a QB in the first round. Big question, Do the Browns take a QB in the first round or fill other holes on the roster. They obviously thought TT was worth giving up a great pick for so I'll say the Browns go a different direction in the first. Do the Colts pick a QB?? Not likely,  lot of people seem to think Lucks injury is healed well enough Indy will stick with him.  That leaves the Jets, the Cardinals and maybe the Dolphins taking a QB in round 1.  If the Phins pass; one of the top 3 QB's in this years draft falls right into our lap with out us doing a thing.  This is a definite possibility especially if one or two of these teams get a guy in FA. Another argument against trading up in the first.

Ridiculous. So when is it a good time to go after a qb?

It's this year for sure. We bringing in at least two new QBs. Wheather its two FA's, a FA and a draft pick or what ever. This isn't the regime to sit on their thumbs and hope something happens. I seriously doubt they reach in the draft. We're going to be the team to watch next week and in the draft for sure.

He does show a pretty decent resume, but I doubt the current regime would tolerate the attitude problems. Personally, I can't stand the "me first" attitude. I don't care how good a player is. They just aren't going to get the team behind them. Those teams associated with those stats were mediocre at best.

Let us know when a perfect QB prospect comes along so we can take one high.

There isn't one in this draft, but there have been a couple I would have traded up to get. I wanted the Bills to really go after Wentz. I also  (to a lesser extent) wanted them to try for Mariota. There are few draft picks worth giving up your future for.

    Stop.

Franchise QB is the most important piece.

    Luck is one of those.

    This isn't the same.

You're also using a trade that is regarded as one of the worst in history as a comparison.

    Just stop.

Regarded as the worst for Minnesota. It made the Cowboys a dynasty. Big trades can and do happen. Why wouldn't a team like Indy that has nothing to loose, make a trade that could do the same thing? I'm not saying the Bills should give up the farm like Minnesota did. I'm saying they should explore the possibility and see if they can make it happen.

No one said anything about it being a sure bet...but it certainly improves your chances of finding a franchise guy.

You can’t play the game “not to lose”, because the odds are that’s exactly what will happen...in order to win in life you need to create your own success...you can’t wait for someone to hand it too you.

Sure, there are a few times you might get lucky- but who wants to live that way? Imo it’s time THIS organization took the bull by the horns and announced to the world “We are tired of being pushed around and dictated to...We are ready to make our own success and finally be a contender again!”

Like your attitude about winning. Just not sure about your plan to get a QB. Just don't think this draft as the talent to justify a trade up.

If you don’t understand why it’s important to move up in the draft to get your franchise QB, I cannot help you.

Well, of the the top twenty QB's in the league last year, maybe half were first round picks. Two of those top twenty were with their second team. Three of the top twenty are on their way to another team. Six of those top twenty were day two or later picks. You thinking trading up in the draft is a sure bet to land a franchise QB is misguided.

    Exactly

Look at the Colts position. It is a total rebuild. They have the #3 pick in a deep QB class. Dumping 75 Million in cap and grabbing two more first rounders is a smart move when dealing low.

For the Bills it's a better gamble than Cousins, Foles or a rookie.

and there is a connection, not to mention Foles could go to Indy with Reich there and Philly being in cap Hell.

but hey what do I know?

I'd like this a lot. Whether or not the Bills get Luck there is certainly going to be more wheeling and dealing up to and during the draft. Great off season so far.

There have been threads on this before.

Luck isn't going anywhere if he's healthy.

Luck being on the block means they definitely don't trust his shoulder.

His arm was worse than Brees, whom Brees' own surgeon said was "miracle" he could even throw again, let alone at a high level.

    Please lock this thread.

Do you remember the Herschel Walker trade. Cowboys gave up a great player they just didn't need, used that trade to build a team that beat the Bills in two super bowls. Indy has a bunch of holes to fill.

tell me this is the answer in Buffalo Ha Ha Ha

This is what I'm looking at. When Foles has had the opportunity in the NFL (not college) he has done well enough to trade for.

Foles and Keenum's play in 2017 does not portend they'll be at that level under a new team's coaching staff and scheme.

There are no guarantees in life and that's why it's important to take calculated risks. Hence, the scouting process and off-season spent reviewing personnel leading into UFA and the draft.

Not saying we don't draft a guy this year. I definitely think we should, but not in the first round. The QB's in this years draft all seem to be abor out the same level depending on who you talk to. No one really stands out. I think we could get a good QB in the 2nd or even 3rd this year.  If we do get a guy like Keenum, Bradford, Bridgewater, etc. and a draft pick wins the job in camp I'd be ecstatic.  Agree; there are no guarantees.
