  1. Having watched every ASU game for the past few seasons (I'm an alum) I can say that Henry had an amazing career at ASU and I would love to see him in a Bills uniform. While I'm not an expert, Henry caught everything thrown in his direction, which might be helpful with a QB who struggles with accuracy. He's also been the focus of ASU's passing offense so that means he's been the focus of the DCs and yet the kid gets open every game. His QB, Manny Wilkins, was not accurate at all and would just chuck the ball of and let Henry make plays.
While Henry's made a number of unbelievable catches, take a look at his punt returns and rads after catch and contact.

  2. Yes, it is a solid connection, but they won't be the only ones involved over all. There's additional infrastructure upgrades to traffic flows, development of parking around a stadium and various other projects that would be part and parcel of any situation like this if the stadium site is chosen closer to the population center of the region. And that is very possible.

Think of parties such as Benderson Developers, Paladino Construction and the local Union halls for skilled trades on the development side, and think longer term here, 5 to 10 years beyond the stadium construction, as these projects would come in smaller waves.

As I keep saying, there is a great deal more here than meets the eye.

And for those of you that do not live here any more, this article in the Buffalo News might give you a little more insight in to what I think Hopeful is partially talking about. There is the beginning of a downtown Renaissance right now and I believe that a new stadium/convention center would be playing a significant role in that Renaissance. This article about IBM Research coming to downtown is also informative. Also, Delaware North is building a new headquarters.

The wife and I bought a new house 2 years ago and I specifically remember looking at one house in Getzville where the owners were two doctors who had moved downtown to be closer to the medical campus. We bought our current house from a UB prof who also wanted to move downtown. While that is anecdotal, I would imagine that this movement of professional, white collar people from the suburbs to downtown hasn't gone unnoticed by our local contingent of real estate developers and even some who are now here from NYC because of the low cost of real estate (Kissling)

That being said, it would make sense to build a new stadium/convention center downtown to capture additional dollars beyond football games and I do not think it a coincidence that the "leak" of Pegula was followed by this Jacobs story shortly after. If those two are working in concert, and I see no reason that they wouldn't be, it sends a really strong message to EVERY other bidder that they will not be able to compete. Both of these families have professional PR firms who understand how to use earned (free) media to deliver a message and I believe that this is a message that is intended for people like Larry Tanenbaum or any Los Angeles interests. But I could be wrong.

All you have to do is drive or walk around certain parts of Buffalo to see that we are approaching a tipping point in the city where by the 2020 census, we might be talking about how Buffalo's population is on the rise and a destination for people to live.

  3. I lived in Phoenix when the owner of the Suns, Jerry Colangelo, literally, single-handedly, revived the entire downtown area, which is now bustling. It was dying a slow death before he came in and started with the arena being built downtown, and then a couple restaurants, then a few other businesses, and then boom. Granted, Phoenix isn't Buffalo, but at the time, everywhere was booming around the outskirts and suburbs of the city, and the neighboring cities of Scottsdale and Tempe, and absolutely zero was happening in downtown.

One guy changed all that, and Pegula could do it in Buffalo.

I also lived in Phoenix (Tempe) during this time and Kelly is 100% right on the move of the Suns downtown and it's effects. Phoenix's downtown corridor is now bustling and with light rail and a downtown ASU Campus, there are a ton of things to do there now. Downtown Buffalo, with the Harbor Center as well as the expanding Medical Campus, is on the verge of turning in to something great. Add a football stadium and we could finally have the sort of downtown that we could all be proud of.

Someone who has seen what is happening here. Unlike Phoenix, look to the roots of the Buffalo-Niagara region. Many vacant brick manufacturing facilities sit idle. Many are going to find new life, as manufacturing, living spaces, even commercial enterprises. Look to the old combined with the new era industries. And Pegula isn't the only power broker that will be involved. It won't happen over night, but things are in motion that should change the area, for the better. Something this area has been waiting to see for a very long time, vision with leadership.

I just got back from a week in KC and if you have never been there you would be shocked at the similarities in architecture to parts of downtown Buffalo. Also, I think everyone would be shocked at how nice a downtown KC has and when I was walking around, I kept thinking that there is no reason that Downtown Buffalo couldn't be that nice. I completely agree with you hopeful and also think that there are a number of investors who see the potential for additional growth downtown.

  4. I purchased season's this year for the sole purpose of taking my 8 and 11 year old sons to games. They aren't Bills fans (to many losing seasons) and I thought that the game-day experience might help increase their love of the Bills.

So, I'm looking for the best place to park. I'm coming from Amherst and I'm not looking to tailgate. More of an easy in and out. Should I buy the Bills parking pass for $144 which averages out to $16 a game? Just looking for the sage advice of more veteran visitors to One Bills Drive.

    Thanks

  5. I'm student teaching right now. This is my last day of this placement. On trade deadline day for the NHL? They were doing a review sheet. Then a quick unit. Tuesday? Review sheet. Yesterday? Test. Today? Test corrections and finishing their project. THIS IS HOW I ROLL...and the best part is? My cooperating teacher is fully in support of it.

EDIT for clarification: DevilsAlum is NOT my co-op teacher. I have to ask you though sir, is your student teacher from Buff State?

D'Youville and I would have been totally on board as well!!

  6. Burfict wasn't even the best linebacker on the team. Colin Parker was and I know for a fact that a Bills scout has met with Parker at a low level "senior bowl" type game after the season. I'm hoping the Bills use a late round pick or sign him as an UFA. Good character, good parents, good kid and hopefully, just like his dad, will develop into a solid pro.

  7. I watched every single ASU game this year. Osweiller is very accurate, especially hitting guys on the run at full speed in stride. He has a good arm, has all the tools and can make all the passes. Not a great runner but mobile and willing. He hasn't played all that much, really just one year, which is a big concern. You can't say he is a winner but the team was a cluster!@#$. He seems like a good kid, and his teammates seemed to like him. His offensive coach, Nick Mazzone, now at UCLA loved him.

He is a long term NFL project though, and definitely a #3 for a few years but he has talent. He will probably go in the 4th round or so The NFL advised him between 3-5. I would definitely like him as a project, although like any project the actual chances of him becoming an NFL starter with an ability to win the Super Bowl are a longshot at best.

    Why would you say that?

I also watched all of ASU's games this year - I'm alumni- and I would concur with Kelly's assessment of Brock. As for Brock not listening to his head coach and waving the punt team off, Brock made the right call on that.
