I don’t understand the aversion to calling out a few actual interesting points for discussion.

Wood doesnt like JJ Watt. Thinks he is "me" guy. Said they would gash Houston because they would run at Watt knowing he would vacate his spot for an easier rush lane. Said Houston couldnt blitz much because Watt would do his own thing.

Said when he first played for the Bills their roster was terrible because Ralph was nearing the end of his life and didnt want to spend any money on players.

said he got the news of his neck injury after post season exit exams. They kept the retirement quiet for a while so the Bills wouldnt be hit with the whole cap number at once. Said he was losing his playing weight and when he went to functions people were wonding

Said Beane is the best GM in the business. He asked Beane if the Bills win the superbowl would he be invited to the functions and events. Beane said you go where I go.

he strikes me as a rob ray/barnaby kinda player. if hes on the other team you hate the dudes guts, but a guy you love on your team

Will Compton has the podcast with Lewan as cohost.

I saw him in the embedded youtube preview and stopped from clicking any further.

Someone give us a summary of what Wood said. Please and thanks!

Wood talks about his playing days, his injuries, his career ending injury and the details of how it was handled. He talks about Fitz, Allen, Beane, McDermott, ect.

  4. Limited snaps due to rotation will limit guys stats but keep fresher legs. The Bills could get pressure, they just couldnt get home to the QB or couldnt contain the QBs. The Bills safeties are taking away the deep plays so most underneath throws are out of the QB's hands in a couple seconds which makes it harder to get sacks. There were lots of throwaways and incomplete passes due to pressure. There arent any Bosa's or Watt's out there to be had. Closest thing would be Chandler Jones but he wont be cheap.

You are right on both counts: (1) sometimes bad things happen when he plays the same way as he does on most of his spectacular plays, and (2) it is a tougher balance than people think, particularly with a QB like Allen.

He didn't have a good passing game today. But, honestly, the guy was still the best player on the field and is in almost every game he plays. He is a special QB because of a combination of his physical gifts, his intelligence, his competetiveness, and the way that he plays the game.

It is that last part I find most amusing with some fans. The way Allen plays results in spectacular plays, performances, and wins most of the time. That same style of play will also, on occasion, result in plays and performances that don't turn out well. Then the same people that applaud when he throws back , against his body, on the run, with two defenders in his face, and completes a 25 yard pass in a tight window between 3 defenders - will complain about Allen playing "hero ball" when that same pass is incomplete when he could have dumped it off to a receiver 5 yards downfield or, heaven forbid, it gets intercepted.

When you look at games this year in which Allen has not done well, there has been plenty of blame to go around, including Allen himself. It truly has been a strange year for the team. It has been a s*** show of musical chairs along the offensive line for most of the year; a nearly non-existent running game (for most of the games) outside of Allen; critical moments of penalties, turnovers, or dropped passes; and bad weather games.

Through it all, the one consistent is that Allen has been asked, arguably more than any QB in this league to carry his team on his back. And, because of his talent and fearless style of play, he manages to do it most of the time. Sometimes he doesn't. Fans can't have it both ways. They can't applaud him for carrying the team when he is successful and then criticize him for trying to do to much and playing "hero ball" when he is not successful - for the same style of play  in both.

I am not saying his play at times doesn't deserve some criticism or that he doesn't sometimes have a bad game. He is still young, still learning, and still growing as an NFL QB. He makes mistakes and sometimes doesn't perform as well as he should. However, the way he plays that sometimes leads to those mistakes and bad performances, is also why, over the last two years, he has over 9800 total yards, 85 total TDs, 23 wins, a trip to the AFC Championship game, and his team in the playoffs again.

You are right. I think it is the timing of the "hero ball".  He has to consider down/distance, time in the game, and field position. I like that he is looking to score TD's but already being in FG range with the lead, I dont want to see "hero ball". I want to see throw it away and try for a FG. He was trying to do too much when he didnt need to. I also he probably wouldnt do it as much if his WR's didnt drop as many balls and the running game was more consistent.

  6. I think what this season has proved in the NFL is that no team is to be taken lightly. Key injuries can derail teams. The Bills are not going to blow out every team. I think fans got spoiled last season. In years past a blow out was a welcome treat and now it is expected. The Bills were starving for a 300 yard passer and now are disappointed when Allen throws for less.

  7. Signing an NFL contract comes with people knowing who you are. Some fans are more hyped about seeing their fav players out in public than other fans. Kids love to see NFL players. When I lived in CA Tony Zendejas kicked for the Rams and had Zendejas restaurant. Jerome Bettis and Jackie Slater were frequent visitors. They hung out with everybody else but that was back in the early 90's.

  8. Unless a good RT is released this coming week, the Bills should try to resign Williams. RT's that can pass protect and are good in the run game are expensive. Try to sign Williams to a 2 yr extension and look for a possible replacement in the draft this year or next. As others have mentioned his pass protection is what is needed for the Bills passing game. Maybe the Bills select a RB with some speed this draft so the outside run game comes into play.

Moss is getting more comfortable and it showed. He disappointed me on that long run though. He kept talking about making people make business decisions and he had some db standing at the 10 as the only thing between him and the goalline and be neither bowled him over or juked him or stiff armed him. He kind of gave in to a casual tackle. Where was the “business decision” there, it looked like he made it not the other way around.....

I think that whole "business decision" stuff was when he was playing with boys and not men.

  10. Allen missed some throws and the drops were not helping him. There were multiple drops on short routes. Drops on 3rd down at the sticks are killers. Allen put up a couple bombs that didnt work out....one the DB made a great play and the other was right off of Diggs hands. It would have been a tough catch but one he can make. The Bills defense was playing soft to not get beat deep so they got beat everywhere else. Until the Bills figure out how to stop a good running team, this is what we are going to see. Hopefully Josh and the offense can get back to putting 30 points on the board because they will need it.

  11. People go off the deep end here. The Bills lost to two of the top teams in the NFL. The Ravens have a much better defense than the Bills right now and got torched by the Chiefs. The Bills are not an elite team but that doesnt  mean they arent a playoff team. Just win the AFCeast and go from there. To say they will lose both games to the Pats is Beaten Bills Syndrome. Denver came into NE and beat them with field goals.

  12. I am enjoying it and it is nice to have confidence in the Bills. That being said I am not getting too high because I know there will be lows. I like knowing the Bills have the ability to play with anyone offensively but there are games coming where it wont work out. Most of all I like seeing the aggressive nature of the Bills and not sitting on leads. Put the foot on the gas until the game is well in hand.

I don't think its dumb, and why not do both?

Some sort of covering actually on the helmet face mask, while not impeding breathing, would only benefit the individual.

Additionally, people are getting confused that you get this through sweat, which you don't.

Pile ups...OK, maybe an issue, but again it is not like these guys are face to face over an extending period of time.

So how does a mask that doesnt impede your breathing do anything to filter the air droplets you are expelling?

If they want to play the season with the virus continuing, they're going to have to treat the virus like an injury, with one change.  They will have to change IR rules so that a player can be put on Covid-IR where they can return when healthy & be able to sign a replacement player.  It will truly be survival of the fittest, but most NFL seasons come down to that.

I see teams losing players to Covid-IR similar to the 2019 Jets season.  When Darnold & then Simien went down, their season was shot, but they still had to play their games with whatever QB they could find on the streets.  Lots of free agents in & out every week but seriously, as long as there is 100% survival rate among the players & coaches, the season will go on.

I agree with this. I think COVID is something that we are going to have to deal with for quite sometime. Not much is known about antibodies yet. Some studies have shown that the antibodies may only last a couple of months. Maybe a cure all vaccine is found and maybe COVID is treated like the Flu getting yearly shots.

That's part of what makes the true infection fatality rate so difficult to know - healthy living people who were infected, but didn't realize because no or minor symptoms.

[But your wife should bear in mind that serology - antibody tests - have a false positive and false negative rate.  A good test will be 2-4% false positive in practice.  So if the actual infection rate in a population is within 2x of the false positive rate, false positives become significant!  In a location with 25% positives, not so much of a problem.]

The other part is undercounting deaths.  The "seasonal fatality rate" which measures how the death rate predictably changes from month to month due to seasonal flu, heat waves, etc shows a gap where we see more deaths than expected this spring, and identified covid-19 deaths don't fill the gap.  A study comparing the official covid-19 death toll to the overall deaths and previous seasonal fatality rates in Italy concluded that covid-19 deaths were likely 1.5x higher than the official death toll.

It's actually rather hard to find that data for the US right now, as some jurisdictions can take up to a year to report deaths to the CDC.   Here's a blog that does a pretty good job at explaining why certainly through mid-April, covid-19 deaths were likely underreported, probably by ~30%.  It has links to the CDC data.

Once she tested positive for the antibody then she had to take a COVID test before going back to work. The first one was inconclusive and then the second one was negative. She also retook the antibody test three weeks later and it was still positive. Nobody else in our family tested positive.
