  1. Cowher said to be squarely on the radar in Buffalo. The Bills think they have a legitimate shot at Cowher.

For myself, if Cowher says yes, except for Fewell, the interviews are over.

Don't they still have to interview a black candidate under the NFL's policies?

  2. Alot of people might not like Kelsay and Denney but they would most likely be better next year than any rookie the bills could draft in the second round. Moreover, they still have Chris Ellis who they drafted last year in the third round. You really can't keep more than 5 DEs so you would have to cut Ellis and basically say he was a bust.

  3. Doesn't cash to cap also mean that all the signing bonus counts against year 1 because that is when it is paid. Moreover, if they made another signing like Dockery who had a $17 or 18 million signing bonus that in and of itself would cancel out about half of that.

  4. Trent Edwards could be the next modern day Joe Montana in my opinion, the question is can we give him the supporting cast Montana had during his years with the 49ers. :wallbash:

Yeah if Trent Edwards had the greatest WR of all time and very good #2, the best OL in the league, and a great RB and FB like Montana did I'm sure he would be very good. Hopefully all that can fit under cash to cap.

  5. The problem is the player can sign the offer sheet at any time and the contract is then guaranteed. If I was Greer as soon as they put the franchise tag on me I would sign the offer sheet and get the average salary of the top five CBs which is too much for a player of his talents.

  6. Better Starting RBs (no particular order for any groups)

    1. Adrian Peterson

    2. Michael Turner

    3. Clinton Portis

    4. DeAngelo Williams

    5. Steve Slaton

    6. Brandon Jacobs

    7. LaDainian Tomlinson

    8. Frank Gore

    9. Brian Westbrook

    10. Steven Jackson

    11. Marion Barber

    12. Larry Johnson

    At Marshawn's Level

    Thomas Jones

    Chris Johnson

    Matt Forte

    Ryan Grant

    Ronnie Brown

    Slightly lower than Marshawn

    Derrick Ward

    Jamal Lewis

    Kevin Smith

    Justin Fargas

    Le'Ron McClain

    Jonathan Stewart

    Warrick Dunn

    LenDale White

    Maurice Jones-Drew

Average starting RB would be the 16th best running back considering there are 32 teams. Given that at best he is slightly above average but not top 10 and definitely not top 5.

  7. Can we please drop this notion that the Offensive coordinator is the one to blame every year for the poor offense. Look Kevin Gilbride won a super bowl ring as the giants offensive coordinator and the giants are doing very well this year also. Dan Henning is now OC in carolina and that team will be one of the top two teams in the NFC. Even Fairchild has improved the colorado state football team (they actually won a bowl game after only winning a total of 7 games the past two years combined).

  8. Looking at the drafts of the short Levy era it looks like the bills under Levy were no better at talent evaluation.

Donte Whitner Ohio State - Bad value for this pick

John McCargo NC State - complete bust

Ashton Youboty Ohio State - Average

Ko Simpson South Carolina - Ok value for backup player

Kyle Williams LSU - Good value here but still average player at best

Brad Butler Virginia - Good value

Keith Ellison Oregon St. - Decent value but below average starter

Terrance Pennington New Mexico - Can't fault for missing 7th rounder

Aaron Merz - Can't fault for missing 7th rounder

Marshawn Lynch California - Poor value below averge starting RB (the easiest position to fill)

Paul Posluszny Penn St. - Average player at best

Trent Edwards Stanford - Decent value but will probably be marginal starter at best would be good backup

Dwayne Wright Fresno St. - bust

John Wendling Wyoming - bust (reminds me of Leif Larsen pick, has great physical attributes but not a real player)

TE Derek Schouman Boise St. - Ok pick for this late

DE C.J. Ah You Oklahoma - Can't fault for missing 7th rounder

Moreover, the free agent signings of Dockery and Walker have not produced much for the amount paid. Overall a good GM has to find at least a one or two above average players in every draft and Levy did not do that.

  9. The bills cannot sell out the luxury boxes and seats that it has in its stadiums now and a new stadium is not going to help. Fans don't come to see the stadium its the product on the field. Free agents don't come to a team because the stadium the team has it is the salary and chance of winning a championship. The reason why owners always want new stadiums is because it increases the team's value at the tax payer's expense.

  10. I think the Patriots and Jets are better than the bills and the Dolphins are about even with the Bills. The bills have not beat any team that will make the playoffs this year and I think the early wins were not that impressive. The Bills have to at least be the second best team in the AFC East to make the playoffs and in my opinion they are not now.

  11. I think there are a couple of reasons the media types don't pay much attention to the bills.

    1. They have no players at the most visible positions (QB, RB, WR) that stand out for good or bad.

    2. They haven't made the playoffs for a long time so every automatically assumes at the beginning of the end that they are not that good.

    3. They are in a small market. Radio and TV is a business and they have to appeal to the mass market therefore the smaller market teams are not going to be covered as much.

  12. I'll wait until the regular season before getting excited about the offense. It seems unlikely that the OC is the only problem considering people has been unhappy with all OCs since Ted Marchiboda. They can't all be that terrible. The players should take quite abit of the blame as well.

  13. I don't know if there's enough of a body of evidence to support that. For every Earl Campbell or Ricky Williams, there's an Edgerrin James, Jamal Lewis, or LaDainian Tomlinson who were overworked early in their careers, yet still stayed productive for many seasons. Sure they'll become a little bit more prone to injury, but not everybody just falls apart overnight anymore.

Tomlinson is just a couple months older than Johnson, and has more than twice as many career touches...it's too early to say Johnson is "clearly" on the way down.

I think the difference between LJ and LT is that LJ is a pounding type running back while LT is going to try and run around you. The way LJ runs makes him much more prone to wearing down. Of course there are always exceptions to the every rule.

  14. At first glance, what you're saying makes sense, but judging by the fact we've had UDFAs make the Pro Bowl, I don't think you can say they only broke through here because we had crappy players. I think for some players, yes, maybe on other teams they wouldn't have made it. But for guys like Jason Peters, Pat Williams, Jabari Greer and Fred Jackson... we must have done something right.

To have UDFAs make the roster is one argument, but having them turn into starters and Pro Bowlers is completely different.

I would also say that it is a sign of a poor roster. Peters would not have made the roster of most of the teams when he first came into the league. I don't have the numbers but I would think that the bills have kept more UDFAs than most and, therefore, they will develop more starters from UDFAs. Nevertheless, the UDFAs are very raw and on a deep roster it is rarely justifable to keep players that will likely never develop into a servicable player. All teams have to deal with injuries where players you didn't expect are going to make it onto the field making all roster spots valuable. Moreover, you need those spots for special teams.
