The Iowa butt kicking ultimately ended the OSU season. With that being said, depending on tomorrow, OSU could finish with 5 wins better than Alabama’s best win (Wisconsin, PSU, MSU, USC, Michigan). Some of it is a little subjective but that is pretty crazy.

OSU has better wins, but Bama's loss is so much better than OSU's combined two losses.

This is subjective as you say, but IMO if OSU played Auburn on the road, I think it is quite likely they would have lost, whereas if Bama played OSU's schedule (including the Bowl), I think they would have finished with at most 1 loss.

Agreed. I wish more emphasis were placed on winning conference titles. At least teams would know what needs to be done. There would be guidelines to follow, and the system could be more easily explained. I could except OSU as a conference champion better than Clemson and Bama entries based on reputation. I understand that those teams only lost one game, but it’s tough for me to see a contending conference champ excluded. OSU did what they needed to do by winning their division. Bama had their chance to do so, and failed. It’s a shame to be punished for scheduling legitimate non conference opponents.

Considering how bad the Pac 12 looks, I am sure glad their conference champion didn't make the playoffs. The playoff should just be composed of the best teams, and that should be true if the playoff were to be expanded. In an 8 team playoff, no PAC 12 team should have made it.

The unfortunate thing for the Big Ten is that they had three teams that look to be top 8 teams, but I don't think they have any top 4 teams. I have no doubt that that the 4 playoff teams would also easily take care of USC, Washington, and Miami.

  3. Big Ten has been very impressive and the bowl season shows the conference has depth.

However, I still think Bama > OSU, Georgia > PSU, and Auburn > Wisconsin.

OSU has a good defense, but they were not overly impressive against USC, who couldn't get out of their own way and lost by 35 to ND. I think OSU was rightly ranked #5 behind Bama.

    Unfortunately, no.

Had the 49ers missed that long FG at the gun vs. the Titans 2 weeks ago, I think we'd get in today.

Bill Belichick's midseason trade of Jimmy G will likely be the reason we miss, let that sink in.

And also the fact that Tennessee plays Houston and Indy twice and we play the Pats twice. No surprise they have the better AFC record.

However, I won't be shedding any tears over the Bills not going in. This team simply is not playoff caliber. Below average offensively and defensively. We are 8-7 because of turnovers and a lot of luck (winning every close game, every loss is a blowout).

I was much more disappointed when the 2004 and 2014 teams missed the playoffs – I thought those teams were actually deserving and could potentially compete in the wildcard.
