Don't get me wrong, I'd love a stud receiver (or two), but let's not pretend our WR room is why we haven't made a Super Bowl.  It's some combination of defensive talent/coaching.

I don't disagree with that, but the receiving group being weak has played a part.  Josh was throwing to Trent Sherfield and Deonte Harty in the Chiefs divisional round game.  Not to mention Latavius Murray who might as well be a receiver due to Joe Brady.

Looking at the groups, I'm not shocked that the offense couldn't get it done the last two years when the defense finally made a stop.

This is incorrect,   he isn't so polished as pass blocker, therefore the team has to get it out on most 3rd downs,  as the final series of AFCCG   demonstrated

    Who cares?

Let him run routes on third down because he is a legitimate receiving threat.

The sack allowed percentage is an interesting statistic. In 2022, even when he shouldn't have been on the field, he recorded a 0.77% sack allowed percentage. While this is an improvement, it doesn't accurately reflect how much he has actually improved during gameplay.

It's a statistic that ignores the fact that Josh Allen is one of the hardest QBs to sack in league history.

That’s where we disagree. I feel he is already an above average defensive end that is 24 years old and ascending. He played 1 year in college.

Hendrickson in is first 4 years before signing his deal with cincy had 20 sacks. Groot in his first 4 years has 25. He is an elite run defender gets a lot of pressure.

Hendrickson was mostly a bench guy before his final season on New Orleans, he had 1,549 snaps his first four years.  Rousseau has been a starter the past three with 2,671 total snaps since being drafted.  I'm not sure if that's a good comparison.

Not to completely absolve him but that game was mainly a failure on the scheme and DB’s

But even if you don’t want to give that any credence, it was just a debacle defensively all the way around and he did pef well in the other 2 playoff games.

At some point the players on the field have to step up.  I'm not excusing the coaching staff but offenses are going to show you new stuff.  There's only so much you can prepare for pre-snap.  Torrence said something similar on the blitz call on the last offensive play.  I just don't think that's a good excuse.

It really just explains why this team struggles with the Chiefs in the postseason vs the regular season.

I think you’re completely off base here.

We have no idea what happened with Diggs but I think he was more upset about the lack of targets than he was about the system.

If the Bills added a crop of “big bodied WR’s” for run blocking why did they sign MVS as a field stretcher last season?  Why did they sign Curtis Samuel who isn’t that type of WR.  Finally, if they only wanted big WR’s why would they trade for Amari Cooper?  He also doesn’t fit that type.

If Buffalo wanted to run the football they wouldn’t have signed Dalton Kincaid.  He is a terrible blocker which is why they can’t run 12 personnel.  It was pretty clear they envisioned him as a “big slot” rather than an inline TE.

Buffalo receivers struggled to get separation all season long.  This is why they didn’t exhibit the Ken Dorsey passing attack like you advocate for.  They didn’t have the right personnel.

I think the philosophy change started with Ken Dorsey balancing the offense.  After 2023, they ended the season with a high amount of turnovers.  So they overcorrected into the ball control time of possession offense.

Diggs' usage changed after Brady became the OC.  His playing time went way down, they started preaching blocking for the receivers.  See Davis getting a game ball without making a catch in the Jets game.  Diggs being upset about his targets was caused directly by the drop in playing time after Brady became the OC.

The big bodied receiver change started with Brady.  MVS wasn't a serious signing.  Amari Cooper is absolutely that type of receiver though, he's about the same size as Davis.  Cooper was only running routes in 50 to 60% of his snaps after trading for him.  Samuel is a good point, I honestly forgot about him.  Maybe they envisioned him as the deep threat last year and he didn't pan out.  That said, they didn't use him.  I shouldn't have added Kincaid, regardless of who the OC was they needed replace Cole Beasley.  He wasn't a good example.

I think the desired personnel changed when Brady became the OC.  I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not advocating for the shot play Ken Dorsey style offense.  I just don't want the offense to hold itself back because McDermott is terrified of his defense playing.

But why do you think they can’t push the ball downfield?  What receivers do they have that can consistently get open?  That’s why they leaned into the running game - it maximizes their talent of their personnel.

That's a personnel decision they made when changing the offense to its current system.  They traded Diggs who was unhappy with what Brady was implementing.  They gave an extension to Knox then drafted Kincaid.  Drafting Cook and Davis.  Drafting Coleman and adding a crop of big bodied blocking receivers.  I don't think they stumbled into the season without a group of receivers who can stretch the field and create separation.  I think it was a conscious decision to build the offense this way.

Total BS on the offense.  He wanted a balanced attack because it proved to be more effective this season.

I'm fine with a balanced attack, I was advocating for the change before they added Kincaid.  I don't think they created a balanced offense, they created an offense mainly driven by the run.  The last two seasons it was a ball control offense that couldn't push the ball downfield when needed.  In important moments they weren't able to move the ball well because it was too one dimensional.

Not all that crazy when four out of those five games were against Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Would you agree that the Chiefs defense is pretty good? Well, by this standard they aren't. When they play Josh Allen in the playoffs they allowed more than 30 points per game.

It's also questionable that they prioritize the defense first. They prioritize both. One good example is how they put together such a good OL this year

I wouldn't agree that the Chiefs defense has been pretty good throughout their run.  They've been significantly better the last two years, but overall they were the team's weakness.

  10. "Opponents scored an average of 33.2 points in Buffalo’s five playoff losses over that span."

That is such a crazy stat with a defensive minded head coach that:  Hired his own general manager and prioritizes the defense first in the offseason.  Changed the offensive philosophy to a ball control time of possession offense to keep his defense off the field.  Hired an in-house staff member to replace himself as the defensive coordinator.

    That ain't it.

  11. Funnily enough, I think Worthy would have been the perfect addition to this offense.  They wouldn't have needed him to run complex routes.  They need speed and the ability to stretch the field.  It's a skillset they desperately needed when they got Diggs, same now.

We'll see what happens with Coleman, it's too early to give up on him.  That said, I think we can guess what his ceiling will be.  I'm guessing Gabe Davis level player, hopefully he'll end up closer to a Courtland Sutton type.

Honestly, I think my biggest fear is that they drafted him solely because of this blocking bull####.

Huge cushion all but one of those. Lining up that way is okay if you don’t want to tip the blitz, but you have to eat it up immediately at the snap. Nope. The CB just stayed soft. Ridiculous. It looked like the whole Cincy playoff game - especially with the ineffective blitzes.

Same with the Rams game this year, the corners looked completely outmatched.  Forget covering Nacua or Kupp, Benford couldn't cover Atwell.

I have said this before, But they need to make a decision as to whether they made a big switch in defensive philosophy. Reed is great, but probably not worth it in our zone heavy defense.

Totally agree, but I don't see that happening with Mcdermott at the helm.  I also don't see the point in adding a big name defensive tackle in this rotation heavy defensive line.  Ed Oliver only played more than 80% of the defensive snaps twice last year, Chris Jones did twelve times this year.

Here is Kair and Rasul both getting easily cooked because of either how far off they played off the WR’s or when they did play press man were easily defeated.

No matter who you have rushing the passer on these plays it wouldn’t have made a difference.

I'm not sure how this was missed the past year.  Douglas was one of the worst starting corners on the team in recent history.  Probably down there with the starting group Drayton Florence, Reggie Corner, and Ashton Youboty.

Well they drafted defensive tackle Jordan Davis 13th overall, and then drafted Jalen Carter 9th overall in the next draft.

The last time the Bills picked in the top 20 picks of the draft was 6 years ago. Eagles had more down years recently to restock the cupboards. Bills are a victim of their own success.

The Eagles traded up for both of those players.  The Eagles just hit on those players while the Bills whiffed on Oliver.
