So many dissing poyer as old and done, but maybe his real gift to the phins is his knowledge of the Bills.

I wonder how much he can help the rest of the defense with identifying 'tells' and diagnosing plays.

I'll never forget him traveling 15hrs one way by van to play in a game because injuries wouldn't allow him to travel by plane. That's borderline Ronnie Lott territory.

  2. My condolences to your family.

Long term, please consider family/individual counseling to help navigate this, especially for children, but for you, too. I raised two kids myself from ages 7 and 11. I did the best I could, but there are things I couldn't 'see' that they needed more help than what I could provide alone. They are adults now, and are both doing well, but they went through some hard times that could have been better with some professional assistance.

  3. I was grocery shopping before the KC game, guy walking the opposite direction wearing his KC team jacket/hat pointed to my Bills jacket with an 'uh-oh', which made me laugh and I fist-bumped him and said 'good luck'.

He then chased me down to ask why are Buffalo fans always so nice, and fans from other teams are so awful. I gave what we used to call the "PACAF salute" (palms up shrug), and said 'Yeah, but why?'. I'm just a fan here to get the grouper on sale, man.

  4. I thought trading up to draft Sammy Watkins was a fire-able offense for the GM, and I would have done it immediately.

I thought the 13 seconds game was a fire-able offense for the coaching staff. Again, I would've done it immediately.

I think the end of season win streak is the HC's finest work to date, and part of me just doesn't care.

I often wonder if these views are because I'm a cranky old man, and I have no patience any more. I'm tired, boss.

With the Thursday night games on Prime the game is available the next day on the NFL Network (I believe), always.

Will the same be true for this game as well?

I've decided I'm not rewarding this behavior by buying another service. I'm either pirating it live, or more likely, enjoying my day doing other things knowing the NFL network will replay this game within the week and I can watch it on services for which I am already paying a ridiculous amount of money.

  6. I don't have as deep a knowledge of football as many posters, but since the 13 seconds game, I don't have very much faith in the coaching staff's ability to take this team to a SB win. This HC showed he can get a team running well, but gameday management, oof. Not everyone can get a team running well, so I accepted that they hoped this would improve with experience, as it sometimes does. With this in mind, taking on more responsibility as DC was the absolute wrong move to make. That effort should have been to focus on the HC tasking that you have not mastered. As they say, 'do your job'. Hard to improve (if it is possible) when you have two jobs. Sean may get there someday, but not in this configuration. It's making him a worse HC.

Well, the regular season home opener was September 1, 1973, Jets at Bills. I found this:

I attended this game, end zone seats. Seemed like every time any team crossed mid field it was in the other direction. 11 year old me didn't see very much of the actual game.

  8. Watched YTTV RedZone channel since the Bills weren't on. I don't recall the host's name, but he's no Andrew Siciliano.

The jumping back and forth between games seemed a little more jarring than DTVs RedZone, where the host spent a lot of time describing what was going on in other games while you were watching one, and switching back and forth had some context added to at least briefly inform where you were switching to. The YTTV method is the millisecond a play was over they jump to another game where a play is about to happen without any other information. It can be a bit difficult to stay with.

    Yes

You raise a number of valid concerns that are important to make people aware of.

I don't want to sound like I'm minimizing them, but it's also important to me for folks to understand that this is really pretty straightforward to address.  I don't want people to feel that it's "whole house generator or bad idea" when it comes to emergency preparedness.

Good job! Many years ago I learned there is a common redneck engineering solution to wire a plug to backfeed from a portable generator via a dryer outlet to power the house. This step is very easy to accomplish, and requires little to no understanding of what you're dealing with. And as you might imagine, long-term outages here are often accompanied by news stories of electrocutions, fires, injured/dead linemen, or a whole house full of blown appliances due to it. Just hoping anyone interested does the same level of research and planning as you described.

There's a lot more commercial solutions available these days, so maybe it's not as big an issue.

We don’t have the fancy-pants option, but we are prepared.  We hauled out the inverter generators, fueled them up, plugged them into the handy-dandy twist-lock exterior outlet, did some jiggery pokery on the electrical panel, flipped some breakers back on, and Voila!  Our modem and router work, our fridge and freezer have power, our i-devices can be re-charged, we can use the igniter and turn on our gas stove.  And I can sit in front of a fan, or under a ceiling fan, and turn on an LED light or two if I feel like it.

It sounds like you went through the trouble to set this up properly. Having a little experience with power outages in FL, I would just like to caution people about DIYing this type of setup. You can set this up pretty easily with a portable generator, but please consider:
    - line workers will be in danger if they assume a line is without power, but it is live due to power backfeed flowing from your house. You need to ensure your house is disconnected from the power lines.
    - Being able to throw a light switch or turn on a fan is awesome, but be careful with turning on major appliances (let alone AC/Heat). Your generator may not be able to provide as stable/consistent power as line power, and major appliances could be damaged. You have to make sure the generator output is able to handle what demands you place on it. There's a reason whole house generators are more expensive than the standard portables.

  11. 100% dumping DTV, had it since 1994 for Bills NFL ST/Sabres NHL Center Ice.

YouTubeTV will have sunday ticket, so that's it for the Bills.

Maybe they get NHL at some point, but the NHL channel isn't part of their programming currently. I recently got the Hulu/ESPN/Disney bundle, and it has almost every Sabres game (MSG feed). TNT is part of YouTubeTV, so that just leaves any games that are exclusively on the NHL channel, which is pretty few.

I believe I read that DTV was paying $1.5B for NFL ST, and YouTubeTV is going to pay in the $2B range, so I'm curious to see what they charge for it.

Nice write up.  It's a little thing, but I liked the way they put Davis in motion on the short yardage plays and he pushed Allen forward.  I don't think I've seen that before.  Nice wrinkle.  I could do without Allen going Renaldo Nehemiah anymore this year unless absolutely necessary.

I've noticed a couple teams doing this in the past couple weeks, man in motion timed to be behind the QB at the snap to push the pile. Pretty successful so far, but if/when defenses plan for it, it provides a tell when the ball will be snapped. Will be interesting to see this wrinkle evolve on both sides.
