  1. I read this article earlier about the flight attendant & thought exactly the same thing - I could care less about how I was treated by a crew member and just happy to be alive with minor injuries. Maybe if he writes a letter to Air France he'll get a free round-trip ticket to anywhere AF flies!!
  2. dextosmurph reads the articles in Playboy
  3. Sparkle - I have driven from Charlotte (Fort Mill SC) many times but the most pleasant drive is up to Shelby using I-85 to HWY 74 to I-26 into Asheville & then down to Franklin over to Murphy NC into Cleveland/Chatanooga, TENN. Quickest way is all Interstate from from Asheville via I-40 to Knoxville & then I-75 south to Chat. Stay away from Atlanta since you'll start hitting traffic 75 miles out.
  4. After leaving (1978) the Arm Pit of Western New York - Niagara Falls I moved to Ft Laud FL. 5 years later a job relocation took us to the Raleigh/Cary area for 8 years before the boom & loved it. I could have filled a bus with people wanting out of South FL!! Moved to Charlotte/Rock Hill SC for 15 years and this too was very nice. Also familiar with most of both the Carolinas with in-laws & daughter living in different cities too - All experiences have been pleasant with only excetions being with transplanted yankees. I've had P/T jobs in addition to fulltime work and have met many people along the way. 6 months ago an opportunity came about with my employer & we transfered to Huntsville ALABAMA. This is very similar to what the Carolinas were 20 years ago. The growth & development along with crime, cost of housing, & congestion is what made us decide on moving further into the South. It's been a lot of fun and enjoying it more than we thought. This may be Dixie's best kept secret. My 11 year old isn't thrilled about starting school next week but a trade off to the mild winters & early summers. My only complaint are the South's summers - I would trade July & August for their January & February any time!! The Tennessee River and many lakes are all around us and we'll hopefully get a boat sometime soon. Having had many vacations to beaches in FL, & N & S Carolina I can honestly say that the Redneck Riviera of AL & FL Panhandle on the Gulf of Mexico are very nice - although Sharks seem to think so too. Bama & Auburn (Tenn too) is primarily what you hear the most about down here. BILLS - PANTHERS Super Bowl this year but I'll hold off on picking the winner!!! Oh what the heck - 24-20 BILLS !!!!!
  5. Killians Red but now Dos Equis Amber. Whenever I get back to WNY there's something fantastic about Old Vienna Splits!!
  6. I do much reading at this site - very little writing but felt I should add my reply. Obviously I'm a dog enthusiast and I feel bad for your loss of Wendall. I have to tell my recent story and apologize if it drags on. A week & a half ago, we moved from Charlotte NC to Huntsville, AL. I'm originally from Niagara Falls and have lived in the South for @ 25 years. An opportunity became available for this move further into Dixie & so far so good - little bit slower paced & just what we were looking for. About 10 weeks ago our 8 year old Golden Retriever -Lucky- came down with what the vet diagnosed as Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia which put his blood count "upside down"!! Over that time period, & several trips to the vet's office we had treated him with antibiotics, transfusions, and steroids and hoped that he was on the mend. Since he was in excellent shape prior to all this we thought he'd be with us in Alabama for at least a couple years. When it came down to the last weekend for the family and I to move, Lucky was too weak to even get up and his kidneys had completly shut down. I swear that he communicated to us that the past 8 years were terrific but it was time for us to go our seperate ways. We called the vet @ 7am and made the decision to put him down at 11:30 am - It must have been the slowest 4-1/2 hours we'd spend with him. With tears running down her face, the doctor performed this gut wrenching procedure. I will always remember his as "polite, gentle, & courteous" but I swear he chose the "most convenient" day of that weekend to pass away. I was alone with him on Friday, Sunday was the day to load the trucks and our vet was not available, & Monday was the closing of the house sale & the 9 hour trip to Alabama!!! I may have to name our next dog "Bama" in his memory. Regards, Pete
  7. Your title caught my attention. I've lived here in Charlotte for the past 15 years and for the most part, enjoyed it very much!! Left the Falls (armpit of NY) in 78 and after a stint in S.Florida moved up to Raleigh in 83 - which was another nice place to live. Sort of watched this area develop too much so am now moving to Huntsville ALABAMA!! Just like "My Cousin Vinnie". I think that's were Pesci was in that movie? - Italian Yankee moves deeper into the South. I was able to get a transfer with my employer and thought I'd give it a chance. I've truly enjoyed the past 22 years down here and have had all pleasant experiences. And yes there are many trasnsplants down here mostly from Ohio, Western PA, & NY. Good luck to you & let me know if you need to buy a house, or piano, dining room set, patio furniture, water ski's ...... Everything stays & will start all over again with the exception of the wife, dogs, & kids - in that order.
