Terrorism support and domestic violence shouldn’t bring a team together. Sean and Von still need to go or winning this season is tainted

I retired from the US Army after 26+ years of service.   I did 3 tours in Afghanistan, 3 tours in  Iraq,  9 months in Somalia, 9 months in Haiti,  two tours in Korea and worked as an defense attache at the US Embassy in Chad.

While I am no a fan of McClappy,  I see nothing wrong with what he was attempting to do when using 9/11 terrorists as a teaching point of leadership and communication.

I have no idea what McClappy said exactly or how it was perceived by his audience.   I will tell you that many military leaders, myself included,  have used the events of 9/11 as a teaching point.  That doesn't mean that any of them support terrorists or terrorism.   All military leaders use events such as 9/11, October 3, 1993,  and battles throughout history as examples.

I find it amazing that people are offended talking about history.   Again,  I don't know the context or what was said my McDermott.   But I know McDermott does not support terrorism.   That assumption is asinine.

Bad people have used remarkable leadership,  coordination and communication for bad intent.  That doesn't mean that people who acknowledge said leadership support that bad intent.

There is no winner in war.

As for Von Miller,  I guess that you have already convicted him of his alleged crimes so I will refrain from commenting.

  2. I don't believe that McClappy is a bad person.  However, I no longer believe in "his process and truly believe that he is a narcissistic and has refused to change his frequently flawed game management and defensive strategies.   None of that makes him a bad person, just a bad HC and defensive coordinator.

Did anyone else notice him smiling on several occasions during last night's broadcast?  I was caught off guard as I have NEVER noticed him smiling during his half-time interview.   He is always very stoic I it seemed weird to me that since he was personally called out, he was going out of his way to portray a pleasant smiling persona.

Even when the Bills have blown out opponents,  I have never seen McClappy portray a happy demeanor during a game or even in a press conference.

Did anyone else notice this behavior?

I have an odd feeling we'll make it in but if we don't there's a whole ton of positives to be taken from this season.

    - Kincaid is a true stud, he will be a game breaker for our offense next year no doubt.

    - Bernard is a stud as well and a playmaker that this defense needs, he's better than Edmunds.

-Cook is a baller and will be even better next season!!

-Spencer Brown is a legit RT for the future!!

-Cyrus will be a monster next year as he was better than average this year as a rook.

-Shakir looks to be a playmaker and will be even better next year out of the slot(Beasely replacement finally).

-We now know Gabe is not it and can cut bate and draft a real #2/ eventual Diggs replacement.

-Ed Oliver is worth the contract and has finally got it all together.

There's a lot of positives that have come out of this frustrating season imo. I'm a glass half full guy!! Hats off to Beanes drafting!!! We're going to be okay we have a lot of young talent at our nucleus now 🦬

I agree with all the positive points.  Unfortunately,  there is an equal or longer list of negatives.

I won't take the time to list them all as you can take a look at any thread over the last two months.

The obvious one is the HC. I'm not overly optimistic that his bone headed game will not cost us 1 or more of the remaining 5 games.

If the Bills played offense as well as they have been the last few weeks (since the end of Kenny boy), we probably would’ve have been competing for the one seed this season. Regardless of the defensive struggles.

Ken cost us the season. Sucks.

Yes he played a role in this season but I would argue that McClappy has cost us three consecutive seasons.

Firing Dorsey was just another CYA move by McClappy akin to putting lipstick on a pig.

The issues this year are his defensive strategies at the end of games.   Unfortunately,  I believe the late game defensive woes will absolutely continue as they head into the hardest remaining stretch in the league.

    Go Bills!

They stopped the Miami defense and they have kept the Bills in almost every game this year.  The Bills are not in this position because of the defense, but because they had an  incompetent offensive coordinator who literally did not know what he was doing.

He is gone. Too late, yup, but there should be no questions now by all about what the problem was.

I would love to bet you on that last assertion...  You think Dak Prescott at the Ralph,  the Bills with a two game winning streak on the line and a  playoff spot, is not only going to beat the Bills but beat up on them, dominate them?

Strange that you have more confidence in a QB who cannot beat a good team in a meaningful situation if his life was on the line than a team that looks as good as any in the NFL right now.

What I think is the Bills offense can match almost any team in the league.   Look at the scores all season long.  I can very easily see a McClappy special allowing Dallas to march down the field for a winning score.

I never said "beat up or dominate".

I used the word ugly. ( I.e... 13 seconds = ugly, Philly game = ugly, Jets game = ugly, every overtime game in McClappys tenure= ugly, Patriots game = ugly).

Let me know if you would like more examples of ugly games.

IMO... the Bills should be 5-7 on the season as they were gifted a win by horrible officiating against the Giants.

What two game winning streak are you referring to?

You think that the Bills are going into KC and winning on the road against Mahomes and a greatly improved KC defense when they have lost to the Jets, Patriots Jags, Denver, and Jax?

If so, let me get your plugs phone # cuz I need some of what you are smoking!

Look.  I am a Bills fanatic and I will always be.  Yes I would like them to dominate and with JA17, I believe that they can.   Unfortunately McClappy is navigating this titanic and he struck an iceberg during the AFCC against KC.  It just hasn't sunk yet.  But I do see people running for lifeboats.

    Go Bills!

(McClappy seems like the type of Captain that will make sure that he has a seat in one of the lifeboats)

Will the Bills offense play as good as Geno Smith and the Seahawks?

I think that offensively yes they will.   Frankly,  I think that we will play Dallas very similar to the Seattle game last night.  I will not be surprised if McClappy allows Dallas to drive down the field for a game winning score.  I mean really,  how many times are we going to do this?  McClappy is NOT going to change his defensive strategy,  particularly late in the game.  Our only chance of beating Dallas is that they struggle offensively due to the weather.

As it turns out, McClappy fired the wrong coordinator . . . .

When speaking of the importance of "complementary" football, McClappy should have looked in the mirror.

I have been saying this since the 13 second debacle.  Welcome aboard.

I appreciate the positive  changes McClappy has made during his tenure here, but it's clear that his playing not to lose defensive strategies only result in losses.  It's that simple.

I personally think he unequivocally has to go sooner rather than later.

I have seen very little humility from a leader who has preached "humble and hungry " for the last 7 years.

Conversely, McClappy has come across as one who is never accountable.  I think that he honestly thinks his defensive strategies work and continues to allow opponents to shred him in the 3rd and 4th qtrs.  Yet he refuses to change or adjust.  Pure arrogance and quite frankly pretty stupid IMO.

I'm currently watching the Sea v Dal game and I will tell you right now that the Bills D will not be able to stop the Dallas O.  It will be ugly.

  8.

This team WILL NOT go 5-0 during the toughest stretch of their schedule.

What has this team done to promote this type of optimism?

Was it the win against Miami two freaking months ago?

I have watched every snap and this team has consistently shown that they can play close with any team yet have lost 50% of their games (against primarily weaker teams).

Why should I believe that they are going to win 💯 % against tougher opponents.

Sure they can win 2 maybe 3 games but I think it's time for many here to take of the Zubas sunglasses.

If they play against the next five opponents like they did against the eagles, you know, the best team in the league, then I can see them winning out. The chiefs are not the chiefs of old. Dallas? We’ll be home and I think we are a better team than they are. Then the pats and the chargers who are not very good should be a win. Then close out against the dolphins, which might be for the division lead.
I don’t get all this talk about the season being over. Ask the players if they think the season is over.

Do you honestly believe that the Bills are better than the Cowboys on Defense?

Oh no amazing point. So much fun seeing things like last night. And the Hail Murray. And 13 seconds. And the collapse at home against Minnesota last year. And the meltdown playoff game against the Bengals last year. And the dumb ending with the Broncos this year. And....should I keep going or are you having too much fun???

We have soooo many fun and exciting "moral victory" banners from the McDermott era. So so many.

See, it's not all about what last night was. It's the cumulative failings of this team going all the way back...even before the loss to Urban Meyer...no even further back then that. It's ingrained in this team now to fall short. That's the defining theme of McDermott's whole tenure here.

Well said my friend.   I get so frustrated with this staff that I can't put it into words.

I can't imagine that the players on this team have faith in this HC.

For me it goes back to the first playoff loss to KC when Diggs left the locker room to watch the KC celebration and Mc Dummy went out to console him.

56% completion and 82 passer rating is Superman? I guess love really is blind

Really... Josh threw the ball 51 times.  500+ yds.   In a heavy cold rain.   I'm sure Jalen Hurts ratings look better,  in fact he only had 33 passing yds. At halftime.   Josh is only responsible for offense.   IMO JA17 played one of his best games yesterday.   Second only to the 13 second meltdown,   but same ol same ol Mc Dummy cannot manage a game or get a defensive stop in a big game.  But whatever... blame Josh.

Saw a stat on RZ that the Bills are the first team in 40 years to have a plus 75 point differential and not have a winning record.   Ouch.

What does that tell you about this team?

To me it screams horrible game management,  coaching.

The Bills should get a win at home but they are far from out of the woods.  I would not be surprised if they lose this on to a superior defense.

So not sure if the final moments have been detailed in this thread, but I just rewatched it.

The 12 man debacle was just mind blowing, as the Bills had just used TWO timeouts (After the PI on Johnson was called, the Bills called TOs after Denver’s 1st down and 2nd down kneel downs by Wilson). So they obviously knew the FG was coming up very soon, and they had plenty of time during the two TOs to “get their ducks in a row”, yet they didn’t.

Seems obvious to me that one player may have screwed up big time. I assume that the FG defensive unit is always the same 11 guys, so unless one of those guys was injured, who was the 12th guy who shouldn’t have been out there? After Wilson did the kneel down on 3rd down (that play started with :24 left), the Broncos had to run their FG team out there (as the clock was running) and the Bills ran at least FIVE guys from the sideline out there. There really wasn’t time for a Bills defensive Capt to do a head count at that point; and it wouldn’t have mattered anyway because they couldn't call a TO, and there wouldn’t have been enough time for the 12th man to run off the field.

Bottom line is that during those two TOs everything should have been planned out as to who was going to be out there for the FG. Hell, the FG defensive unit should have been put out there on 3rd down.

So who's responsible for ensuring that the proper players are out there?  IMO, McClappy blew it.   It didn't matter what 11 personnel were out the for the three consecutive kneel downs.  He should have taken the dime package out immediately after the PI call.

This is typical McClappy game mismanagement.

Personally,  I think he looks like a total clown 🤡 by firing Dorsey and not accepting responsibility for his own actions.   Hello...  he could have fired the ST coordinator and not have lost as much respect instead of the option he has chosen.

Jeff Saturday has flamed him about this and I don't think he is wrong.

Is there a single serious fan who thinks that that McDermott does better end of game management than they could.   He is truly horrible at that particular part of coaching. I can't even think of a HC in NFL worse at that aspect.  In fact I am curious if anyone has any candidates for worse than McDermott at end of game management.

    You are not wrong.

Personally, I have been saying this for seven years now.

My last straw was the 13 second meltdown.

I will be a Bills fan until my last breath but that doesn't mean that I have to support this HC.

  15. 20 hours ago, CincyBillsFan said:

Do you know what was worse then to many players on the field?  The fact that McD called an all out blitz TWICE IN A ROW after Sean Payton & Russel Wilson had time during a TO to discuss what they would do if McD did it again.  And Russ threw a sky ball deep and got the expected PI.  It was 3rd & 10 from midfield we didn't need another sack they were alreday out of FG range.

You nailed it.  Might I add that the reason they had 12 personnel on the field was because Mc Dummy had the dime package on the field despite Denver kneeling  for three consecutive downs and didn't change the personnel knowing they are going to attempt a FG.

Instead he tries to change out of the dime personnel as Denver rushes to get their kicking team an the field.

    He's an absolute genius.

I hate to disappoint all of  the process believers but be prepared for 7 more weeks of the clown show.   Yes Dorsey, needed to go and IMO was never a good hire for Josh.  However, the real problem with this team remains in charge of the team and the defense.

Pretty sad state for such a promising group of professionals.

  16. How many personnel are going to be on the field as the Jests attempt a winning field goal?

We all know that now that Dorsey is gone all the problems are fixed.

I mean Mc Dipcrap can now get back to playing "complimentary " football and the players are going "execute" efficiently and with precision now that he has rid our team of what has been plaguing them for the past season and a half.

The results are in. McDermott is an incompetent head coach and needs to be fired.

It’s always been clear that he’s a deer in headlights when it comes to in-game management. I think a lot of fans wanted to forgive that because he did establish a winning culture and attitude at first. We all remember how bad the drought years were.

That culture is completely dead now. He’s lost the team, and he’s gotten even worse at coaching during games. There’s no excuses left. The team won’t start to heal until he’s fired.

I agree.  It was my opinion that he lost the team after the 13 second debacle.  I would have fired him immediately,  I wouldn't have allowed him to travel back with the team.

Now I will give McDummy credit where it is due, yes he changed the culture.  He also has done a good job coaching the defense this year.   Despite all the injuries and 4 turn overs tonight they took it to the end.

I will be surprised if they win 2 more games this year.
