Millions of $ at stake for players etc

How hard is it to isolate for a few more weeks?

Do a TRAINING CAMP style competitive advantage?

take an already closed St John Fisher style college and stay in TRAINING CAMP style bubble for a few weeks or even until FEB!

That's what they're doing right now.

And I am saying that yours is a straw man argument made perhaps from a willfully unanalytical position.

I have never said that Edmunds couldn't play MLB.

Tyrod Taylor was one of the only 3 AFC QB's invited to the Pro Bowl in 2015........he could play QB.......that didn't make him tremendous though....... it made him the 3rd best of a relatively weak field of AFC QB's that year.

That's the case at ILB in the AFC the past couple of seasons.    The NFC is a much different story.    They are stacked at MLB.

Not that it matters THAT much because being a top MLB is akin to being a top RB.    Their presence or the lack thereof doesn't move Vegas lines.

Julian Stanford and Tyrel Dodson have literally both stepped in for Edmunds and the D has not missed a beat and Klein has handled mike duties just fine(arguably better) when they've switched up responsibilities.

It's not if Edmunds can play MLB though............it's how well and if that's the most impactful position he could fill.

This is where you're argument falls flat.  Look at the statistics since Edmunds came back from his injury.  We're the 10th ranked D right now.  By making posts like this, you further the haters who think you have an agenda.

Based on actual results so far this year, I would rather have Beasley without Brown than the reverse.  The combo the past 5 weeks had zero question marks and was killing it.

I agree, yes.  But you didn't know that until Brown's extended injury this year, right?  I, for one, didn't realize that Beasley was the best slot WR in the league until I saw it this year.

But who are we really talking about?

    JA17.

A generational QB makes everyone looks like rockstars!

Are people actually saying he just "isn't a MLB" at all or that he's just not that exceptional at it and may be better served at a position where he can make more of an impact?

Off-ball LB's aren't as valued as they once were.     MLB in particular is basically a reflection of the RB position..........its typically a player with a size/athleticisim ratio that's relatively easy to find and the good ones seem to have a 6th sense negotiating thru traffic.

But teams let even the good ones walk in free agency the same way they do RB's or Guards because they aren't that hard to replace.

You really don't want to spend a first round pick on a guy who just executes his assignments and calls the defenses correctly from an off-the-ball LB position..........and I suspect, as do most, that Edmunds could do a lot more good in pursuit of the passer.

My point was: educated fans like you are saying this.  The NFL isn't. You can't argue that, considering he's a two-time pro-bowler.

I'm all for adding Kenny Stills. He has made meaningful contributions in playoff football games as recently as last season.

What I don't really understand is what it would mean for the game day rosters, assuming Brown and Beasley are both back for the playoffs.

    Diggs
    Brown
    Beasley
    Roberts
    Davis
    McKenzie

    Stills

They're not going to activate seven receivers on game day, so who sits? Roberts is locked in as the returner. Davis has done nothing to warrant being benched for a journeyman vet. McKenzie adds a unique element to the offense that no other receiver offers.

Would they just be adding Stills for depth in case of injury? Are the Bills just hedging their bets because both Brown and Beasley are nicked up? One would think so, but then McDermott's recent comments ("those are two separate conversations") would seem to indicate otherwise.

Numbers wise at the receiver position -- unless a current WR is too injured to suit up -- it's an odd addition.

This is a very reasonable analysis.  All I can think of is that they know Allen is God-Tier right now, so they're willing to sacrifice a backup at another position at game time in order to faciliate his success.

There are a couple schools of thought about how to call this game too. Thought one would be to be as vanilla as possible and try not to show anything that isn't already on tape.

The other thought is to show as much as possible to give the opposition more to prepare for. Just last week the Bills called at least two specific plays to break tendencies and show another look out of a particular formation. The formation I'm think of is McKenzie behind Allen. We threw a swing pass to the left McKenzie out of that and then also snuck Lee Smith out the back door to the right out of that formation. Neither of those things are accidental and IMO they are both designed to set up something we will see in the playoffs. Something exploiting the middle of the field since they stretched the D to both sides in what they've shown and both plays put pressure on the LBs to get outside quickly.

They could and should be showing things on tape this week to set up stuff for the playoffs.

Daboll is definitely the "shock and awe" type.  He's endlessly creative and every week there's a new wrinkle.  Now with John Brown returning... me, personally, I'm trying to win this game.  Having at least two home games, now with FANS, is such a huge psychological boost to the players.  That's their approach i think.  That being said, I don't except the essential starters to play the whole game.  A half at most, most likely.

I think his "struggles", and I mean them in a relative sense, recently have been failing to take the easy play that is there and trying to force the big low % play. I mean he isn't at Carson Wentz levels in that regard or anything but has definitely been evident. It is almost like he thinks he can make every play out of the ordinary. And sometimes you just have to stay in the offense and take the easy throw. It is something he has done in previous seasons that is missing at the moment IMO. That completion % correlates with the eye test.

Yes, I agree with this.  I feel like he will adjust this come playoff time.  We will have to outscore them.

Same reason as the Milano discussion.

    Availability.

Brown’s speed does nothing if he’s out half the season.

I don’t mind keeping him next year, but I’d like to have another speed threat on the roster in case he catches the injury bug again.

    2014 Arizona Cardinals 16
    2015 Arizona Cardinals 15
    2016 Arizona Cardinals 15
    2017 Arizona Cardinals 10
    2018 Baltimore Ravens 16
    2019 Buffalo Bills 15
    2020 Buffalo Bills 8

This is the games Brown has played in his NFL career.  You say availability?  That's obviously a red herring.

Who?  Brown?  He's not even the #2 WR on this team.  Then there's Lockett, Ridley, Moore, Godwin.........

He's obviously the #2 WR on this team.  But you know that.  Is he the best #2?  You raise a good counter-argument there.  But the idea that he should be discarded is absolutely ridiculous, imo.

Edmunds is a good not great player.. If he wants elite money, you let him go.. I think he’s worth $10M aav. He’s a better player than Milano, no doubt. Problem I have with Edmunds is he isn’t a violent, hard hitting, vocal leader at LB like Takeo Spikes or say Brian Urlacher or Patrick Willis. Ironically he reminds me a lot of Patrick Willis minus the hard hits and the mean streak, same range and athletic ability, but he gets abused at times against the run.. He has positional versatility, can play all three spots, bigger, faster, more durable etc.. I think Edmunds would excel in the role Milano is in.. Let Milano go.. Add a true MLB in the draft, let Edmunds assume Milano’s role, but once again it all comes down to money... not a penny more than $10M/yr.. If Edmunds isn’t reasonable with his contract demands, see if you can bring Milano back at a discount instead.. $$$$$$$$$

This whole thing about "Edmunds isn't a MLB" strikes me as a fan thing.  I get the arguments, but the players and coaches of the NFL obviously disagree.

Yeah he runs good vertical routes but that's about it. Outside of that he is really just a possession receiver. If he develops I think his ceiling is as a #3 outside option that you use for chunk plays. If we ever try to make him our permanent #2 option I don't think it will work out.

Perhaps your right.  It just reminds me of all the people who want to cut ties with Brown for "salary cap reasons" even though his cap hit is reasonable.  Why would you want to get rid of maybe the best #2 WR in the league?

That's because we have a QB capable of elevating the players around him. Literally every receiver on the team has had a career year with Allen throwing the ball (even John Brown last year had a career year). Davis has been a decent possession receiver that gets open in the end zone because Diggs draws so much attention. I haven't seen enough evidence that he can separate consistently enough to be a #2 WR in the league but it's possible he'll develop. I like him as a #4 option but Stills is even better at that spot.

Stills is better than Davis at this point, but that shouldn't be construed as hate on Davis, who I think is a baller as a 4th round rookie and just needs to develop like all rookies need to develop.  Also, calling him a possession receiver is not accurate, imo.  That called back TD because of the timeout against the Patriots speaks to that.  He's not a burner, but he ain't slow either.

I think we can beat Tua with backups in this kind of weather.  I think our swagger extends to our whole roster; it's our aura and we know it, believe it.  That being said, I'm counting on Allen putting up a couple of TD's before being pulled.
