Are people really saying any of that? Weird.

I mean, number 2 makes some sense. Allen clearly work, but it's fair to question how hard. I hadn't heard it compared to Diggs. I'm sure Diggs works hard on his body, as I think it's clear Allen does. Beyond that I don't think receivers have anywhere near as much work beyond keeping in shape as hard-working QBs do. A guy like Peyton Manning or Brady has insane work habits even in the offseason. I hadn't heard that about Diggs.

I'd seen the podcast. And while it's not the greatest thing Allen said, it's one sentence, immediately after a horrible game, and we don't know what Diggs said. To me, I don't hold that against him one bit.

The CBS Sports national host on WGR this am said Diggs was a top 5 wide receiver. So yes, they are really saying that...

You can look at this two different ways:

    Positive.
Samuel knows the Brady offense and had his best season with Joe as his OC.  He also brings a dimension of speed and explosiveness has been lacking.  Brady has also shown that he can utilize the talent better than Dorsey could as evidenced by James Cook, Khalil Shakir, Ty Johnson, and Dalton Kincaid who all came on after he took over.

    Negative.

Samuel runs 70% of his snaps out of slot.  The Bills have Shakir who established himself as an upcoming slot receiver.  Is Samuel going to take snaps away from a promising player?  Also at this point in his career Diggs seemed to trending into more of a slot receiver.

You can argue that while Buffalo gets a player with more speed, they now have 3 WR’s best suited for slot WR and not a true outside WR unless you include Hollis.

Either way it’s a signal that Buffalo is doubling down on what Brady wants to do on offense.  They tried the same under Ken Dorsey and he never found a way to really get the most out of players like OJ Howard, James Cook, or Nyheim Hines.  Hopefully that changes

I believe Joe Marino reported yesterday that Samuel runs 49% out of the slot, the remainder out wide or in the backfield.

And this is a game not having Dodson could be big loss.  With a torn labrum, he can probably play but he will be limited vs when he is healthy, not sure we want that.  Hopefully Spector and/or Williams can step up.

I am getting low offers from people who have tickets in the lower bowl........there will be a lot of Steelers fans there.  It will be ironic given what happened last week.

I'll take Spector over Dodson if the Steelers are going run first.

So C.J. Stroud had a career day against the same team we played last week and I thought I would do a quick check of the offensive stats to see how we compared, particularly given that Stroud is a rookie versus the veteran Allen.

    Houston

    Stroud:

    30/42  470 yds    15.6 YPC

    (top 4 receivers)                                     Longest Catch

    Noah Brown:  6  - 153 yds                          75 yds

    Dalton Schultz:  10 - 130 yds                     26 yds

    Tank Dell: 6  - 114 yds                                29 yds

    Nico Collins:  3 - 54 yds                             23 yds.

    Total for top 4:   25 - 451 yds

    Buffalo

    Allen:

    31/40   324 yds     10.4 YPC

    (top 4 receivers)                                 Longest Catch

    Shakir:   6 - 92yds                                    30 yds

    Davis:  9 - 87 yds                                      16 yds

    Diggs:  9 -70 yds                                       17 yds

    Kincaid:  5 -65 yds                                    22 yds

    Total for top 4:  29 - 314 yds

Houston was sure able to move the ball down the field and was much more explosive than we were. Nico Collins is probably their best receiver based on YTD and career stats, and he came in 4th in receiving yds. Their TE Schultz has had some very good years with Dallas, Tank Dell is a rookie, and Noah Brown hasn't really shown much throughout his career. Is their receiving corps really that much more explosive than ours?

Stroud was sacked 3 times versus Allen's 2 - don't have stats on the number of pressures.

I think this sort of comparison underlines exactly what we see week in and week out - we don't have an explosive offense or an offense that can put up game changing chunk plays and/or move the ball down the field with big pass plays. Here we have a rookie quarterback and a decent but not elite receiving corps light up the same team we played last week and seemed to move the ball at will.

Houston scored 29 points of their 39 in the second half alone, including 17 in the 4th qtr.

We scored 7 points of our 24 in the second half, and 0 points in the 4th qtr.

Sure, every week is different, I get that, but TB is the same team that we played and we are supposed to be the team that wins our division with a potential MVP candidate quarterback.

Trust the process? The process is broken.

I think it starts with the entire offensive scheme we are trying to run that is far too predictable and absent creative and big play making capabilities. I might be in the minority but I actually think we have the talent to do what Houston did to TB but I don't see it happening anytime soon unless some significant changes are made to our offensive coaching leadership. We need to whatever we can to bring in the most experienced offensive coordinator we can find/steal - someone who has a track record and most of all "experience". The Dorsey experiment has to go.

    Had the same thought.
