  1. I second the "need" part. Would rather draft a Defensive player earlier and then reach for a QB that's limited regardless of round.

Define 'Reach'. I have heard this word used for a couple decades now and its only used with Media and fans. A player is not a 'Reach' if you feel his skill set fits what you want to do and you feel he will be the player you need at X position for the next 12 years or so.

  2. woe is me..............let's hold back the tearfest until FA and the draft occurs. Bowe and Geno Smith and this whole thing has a better feel IMO.

i'll cry with ya if you we don't draft a qb and fitz wins the "competition"

If G Smith were the #8 pick I would feel much better. The bottom line is no coaching is going to fix Fitz. He is what he is and that is a journeyman backup. Fitz = Kelly Holcomb. No one in the NFL besides a Nix/ Gailey combo would ever have allowed him to be a starter and paid him that much money.

Now these stupid decisions are continuing to set us back.

  3. Bufcomments said it. Not me.

And I believe that one or two QBs will emerge from this draft.

One Bills Drive would never say anything like that.

Why would they denigrate someone who is on the roster?

But if you actually read Whaley's comments today about the QB crop, you would know that they believe that a prospect they like will be available.

I posted that wrong. Their actions 'Say' they didn't believe there was anyone there. Sorry I kind of posted that wrong.

As for as what Whaley says, it's 50/50 he is putting up a smoke screen in an attempt to try and get someone to move up and allow us to trade down or more possible put pressure on the guys ahead of us to take QB's when we really want someone else which makes the odds the player we really want will be there.

True. And, neither was the class of 2000. Pennington was the only clear cut #1. A qb wasn't drafted til rd. 3 after he was taken in the 1st. Redman was a journeyman and Pennington was beset by arm/shoulder inuries. Only one standing is Brady.

Brady has avg. arm strength and limited mobility. His football mentality is off the charts and that is what makes him elite.

Fast forward to 2013. Similar scenario. Lean year for QB. Consensus seems to be pointing to Geno Smith as the clear #1. But there is one qb out there that, 1 - has a higher fb mentality than any of them as well as IQ. And 2 - is physically stronger than any of them. And based on Whaley's comments about fitting, Bills will draft him at #8 because he won't be there at 41. He's likely to put up excellent measurables at the combine as well. Nassib.

I can't disagree with that at all. And I am of the mindset, screw scouts, media etc. If I believe X player is going to become what I want him to then I take him and don't risk losing him by waiting.

  4. "That's all it is, is a sham. The players that are going to be hyped, are going to be hyped," Sherman said on the "ATL Debate Club" podcast. "That's why you have half the first round as busts every year. You can go from now until the end of time. Guys have somehow maneuvered their way into the first round, maneuvered their way into the spotlight.

"As long as (draft analysts) talk about him all day all night, all day, all night, it's kind of like, 'Oh, that's why he went in the first round.' Then when they're doing nothing in the league nobody notices, they just don't say much about them. 'Oh, we didn't get that one wrong, he needs time to develop.' Then three years later, 'Still time to develop.'"

The man is spot on. Whatever they have used for the last 15+ years needs to go in the trash. Time to revamp the entire process

  5. And that feeling stinks. T Jax to compete with Fitz? Everyone knows he will never lead us anywhere near a superbowl, cut him and move on, but our new HC and Nix (who hitched his GM legacy to the guy) have kept him.

What sucks is if the Defense really comes on and we end up 6-10 to 8-8 and there is really good QB talent in the draft next year. Now we are too far up the draft chart to get a good one. Nix really set this franchise back by thinking Fitz was the real deal and ignoring QB for 3 years.

This franchise will always be handcuffed and never see a superbowl again until QB is finally addressed with a top tier talent and for the forseeable future, we are handcuffed with average to below average talent.

  6. When you have a stolid GM who believes in staying pat what does it really matter? Nix is an on the wall roto dialing telephone person in a world of iPhones. When there is a consensus that people want their current GM to have less authority to make decisions then you know you are in trouble. Going with people who have gotten you nowhere is not a good business model. An old-school mind-set has its place in certain environments but it is not a productive approach for a GM in the NFL of today.

Its nothing but same old same old at OBD
