  1. Sadly, the NFL is a business just like anything else. And to make matters more worrysome, its the biggest business in sports. If the Bills are the answer to a team in Los Angeles, there's virtually no stopping it...

Wild Thing, your business acumen never ceases to amaze me. SUCH INSIGHTS!

  2. Unfortunately owners and TV execs look at market size when TV contracts come up for renewal.

Thank you, as do you. I imagine potential owners would not be too interested in hearing my nuanced and romantic argument for why the Buffalo Bills might be the most valuable team in the NFL.. Nor should I expect anyone investing almost a billion bucks into anything to use their heart as a guide. that'd be nuts.

I love the points made regarding a sure thing vs. LA uncertainty. Totally valid, and probably true. But I can't stake my happiness on the prudence of a billionaire. the sky's the limit in LA, I suspect that's pretty hard to pass up.

    Hence Kickstarter.

  3. That just means a large amount of local residents watch the Bills games. It does not mean we have a large market. We are a small market. The NFL would not be what it is if all the cities with teams were the market size of Buffalo.

Alright.. I'd argue you're being a bit conservative with your definition of "market". The raw number of people who live near a stadium is a fine metric, but taking intangibles into account, I believe the bills are far more "valuable" than you're giving them credit for.

  4. Hence why we need to Petition them for an exception.

First, ridiculing this courageous fool is shamefully uninspired. The NFL rules on ownership were not written with the eyes of the public in mind. They are explicitly designed to protect the interests of established, wealthy ownership. They institutionalize financial secrecy, stubborn dealings, private vs. public hostage situations ("I'll take my team to X if you don't give me Y"), and a litany of other things common folk like us raise pitchforks over. The NFL as it stands today, is a collection of rich people's toys.

A loud and articulate statement on the subject, I believe would generate interest/sympathy nationally, especially one tailored to the Buffalo Bills and their current situation.

Second - Coach55 - if you're gonna dream big, why not dream big? 1 Billion dollar kickstarter campaign. No equity, no draconian residency requirements, just a symbolic share which grants you the same rights Green Bay fans are allotted.

We'll get those rich dudes you referenced to bank roll the PR and Marketing campaigns. You watch Jamestown native Roger G's eyes widen as the $$s increase and the stars/politicians start making hay.

I honestly believe we can do this, or, if history is our guide... I know we can at least get pretty damn close.

  5. Is anyone else hear thinking that Byrd is being a baby?

Didnt get what he wanted so he fakes injury and makes sure he doesn't get injured all while collecting his $432k a game.

Personally I think he's full of it and now I'm no longer happy he signed. I'd rather just cut this pos.

Totally: He went and got a second opinion, and his press conference was very heavy on the "when I'm ready, when it's safe" rhetoric. I bet he only plays if we're winning. If this team stumbles out the gates, he'll only be seen when he wants to put some resume building in.

  6. The Bills have not made the playoffs since they left the quaint surroundings of Fredonia and a state university to "regionalize" the franchise and move East to Rochester. Thanks, Russ Brandon. Thanks for ticketed night practices. Thanks for ripping this team from the heart of WNY.

Rochester is just as much the "heart of WNY" as Buffalo! And find me someone who can make a cognizant argument for Fredonia being more "quaint" than Pittsford!

The curse is eternal... and it's coming from that indian burial ground in the bills parking lot.

  7. 32 teams were "too stupid to pick up" Fred Jackson for a long time.

Different circumstances, for sure, but the game is nothing if not a series of circumstances; sometimes the right player lines up with the right team and it all works out.

    truth.

Da'Rick will catch on... I believe, if our coaching staff didn't have so much on it's plate already (installing a new system on both sides of the ball), they coulda laid on Rodgers a little harder and maybe made something out of him.

I just hope Hogan takes this news and uses the self-esteem to blossom into a breakout star.... QB, who takes us to the super bowl....

  8. Well actually I'm still under my original 2 year contract, so don't have complete flexibility. Can't totally threaten to quit without cancellation fees, but can cancel ST

I'm in the same boat... what do you mean cancel ST??

Also, I once dreamt of a scenario where a group of Direct TV users like you and me all got together, and threatened a mass exodus..

  9. If the plaintiff was completely black out drunk and any reasonable person could see that, it could be considered negligence for someone in a position of power, be it a security guard or a member of the medical staff, to let that person out into the cold under their own volition. While I recognize the importance of championing accountability, if the facts indicate that this kid was totally out of it, their is an argument for shifting some of the liability for his death over to the cognizant individuals who decided where he'd go.

  10. Does anyone else dislike the moniker, "Bills Mafia"? I don't like how it originated from harassing a television personality (over something incredibly minor) and I just generally dislike the whole Mafia aesthetic. What does "The Mafia" have to do with The Buffalo Bills? It's just a crude, random, and ill thought out fan moniker, and I wish we could change it.. to literally anything else.

    Am I alone in this?
