  1. This kid has every right to protest peacefully and I respect his position. He created a massive distraction in a team game though and he must have known his protest could cost him his career. Not because of his opinions but because of the backlash he knew was coming. He put that at risk - granted for a worthy cause but he did this to himself. I think his political stance is bigger than the game to him now. I want guys that put the team first. No distractions. Right or wrong, I don't think he plays again.

  2.

Not a Whaley fan but it's fully possible the Bills get worse if we get rid of Doug. Who steps in next? An errand boy for McDermott or a real GM?

I wouldn't have a problem keeping Doug. I think he's done a good job while in B Lo and particularly this off season. I also agree with the "one voice" strategy the team is working under. Just so tired of the Whaley storey thread this off season and it does seems odd that he has taken a back seat to Coach Mc D? The awkward set up may turn into a distraction. If they are all in on McD than just bring in his people, fire Doug, and be done with it.

  3. The back and forth on this Whaley topic is making my brain bleed. Just fire the poor guy already. I don't think he's been a terrible GM, but he is a PR nightmare and apparently is really difficult to work with. The Pegulas are partially to blame here as they haven't always put him in a position of strength with the media or the HC. Hopefully the learn from this whole thing as owners.

  4. I listened to the whole interview. Glad to hear Marv is doing well.

Blame him all you want for the lost Super Bowls, he's given me more good Bills memories than any other coach in my lifetime.

    This

Would love it but until this organization is cleaned out it would just ruin his legacy.

He did draft Kyle Williams so he is the second best GM ever !! :D

he is a leader of men, something severely lacking in this franchise.

Amen brother. Something this organization has failed miserably at over the last 20 years is finding replacements for Marv and Jim. Marv was a leader of men.

  5. Sully aside; he's not the only one who noticed and is talking about this press conference. It may seem like a small thing compared to what is going on big picture with the Bills, but I think it shows a tremendous lack of leadership by Bills brass. Pegula fired Rex, ultimately it was his decision as the owner. Terry should have called a press conference that day instead of writing some BS statement from behind the curtain. Get out front and lead. What you absolutely don't do is shove your interim HC out there, unprepared, and let him take on the firing squad for you. It's a weak play that makes you (the owner) and the organization look bad. Especially when you consider the fact that A.Lynn was a RB coach just a few months prior. Not sure he's completely ready to be a OC let alone the HC of an NFL team.

We need a leader who knows football. Pegula knows he's not that guy. I guess he's rolling the dice that Doug Whaley can fill the roll. Personally, I think Doug is driven more about saving his own ass than working to build a winner and change the culture here.

  6. I love being angry and screaming, especially on Sundays, so for me it's just a perfect fit being a Bills fan.

I grew up in the area. Saw all the great teams of the late 80's and early 90's play. Moved to Atlanta in 97, but still love the team. Now my sons are huge Bills fans too.

  7. The Cubs sucked for 100 years. None of their fans care about that now.

It's insane to put 17 years on players and people who haven't even been here. The Pegulas have owned the team for 3 years. How is it right to put that on them?

I learned a long time ago that crying about the past does nothing to change your future.

Respectfully, I don't know anything about the Cubs or their front office or their owner. Honestly, I don't care. I'm a Bills fan and I'm tired of losing. We do agree on crying. Crying about the past doesn't change the future. Smart people making good decisions change the future. Unfortunately, OBD is in short supply of both, thus 17 years of nonsense.

  8. If I thought the Bills were as big of a joke as you did, I won't waste my time here and find other things to do.

No one is happy with how the last couple years have gone but they have won 9,8, & 7 games. Let's not pretend like it's the Browns we are rooting for. If anything, firing a coach after 8 & 7 wins shows how high expectations are for the first time in forever.

"the last couple of years" LOL. I haven't been happy with this team the last 17 years!! 17 YEARS with not one playoff appearance? 17 years with the nonstop coaching carousel, with no answer at QB, with the stupid Toronto experiment, How does that not qualify the Buffalo Bills as a complete and utter joke of an organization? The Browns have made it to the playoffs within the last 17 years, so yes, we're below that clown show in Cleveland as well.

  9. Well Rex is fired, I didn't want to stay stuck on that. However, I am finding the aftershock of the firing to be more worrisome. The Pegula's are evidently keeping Whaley as the GM and now the Bills are going to start EJ Manuel on Sunday vs the Jets. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this is totally a Whaley move. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal but starting EJ after seeing him fail for 3 years just makes no sense whatsoever.

makes sense if you're trying to lose the game...

  10. Anthony is a man of character and has risen to the task.

Let's also not forget most here would know anything about him but for Rex and many were questioning Rex's promotion of him.

How do we really know Lynn "is a man of character"? Do you know him? This guy was a RB coach 4 months ago! I think it's fair to say he was is/was an average OC. Hard to say what he is or isn't as there is a very small body of work. Now OBD is considering him the HC replacement!! LOL. Only the Buffalo Bills would do this. It's ridiculous.

  11. Only the Bills (and maybe the Browns) would promote a RB coach to OC to HC in less than a year!!!!! That is absurb. I voted Hell No.

If they decide to fire Rex Ryan the first thing we need to do is find a "football czar" and that person should be the only guy in Terry Pegula's ear. Everyone at OBD reports to the Czar. Next step would be to find the guy leaking to the media and fire them immediately. Then the Czar and the GM find the next HC. Whoever the Czar is it would have to be a well know NFL football guy like a Coughlin. Can't be some unknown scrub or anyone referred by Russ Brandon.

  12. Rex's defense scheme hasn't worked in two years and he got full support from Whaley on the needed pieces. The Defense was crap all year. I like Rex Ryan and wanted this to work out, but his defense sucks. Even if Rex agreed to fire his DC and his brother I don't think he would ever agree to allow someone else to come in here and change his defensive scheme. Because of that, Rex has to be released.

  13. I think after his performance Saturday Tyrod Taylor gets another year with the Bills. I know we are going to owe him some money, but if the Pagulas don't have a problem axing Rex with 3 years worth of contract to go, why not give Taylor some more money?

I started going over the losses this season and cannot find anything that stands out to say Tyrod single-handed loss the game for us! Our Defense is guilty for 90 percent of the losses, not Taylor! If the blame is on Taylor, then it's the poor plays being sent in! (Example: Reggie Bush Reverse)

Maybe if Clay is more part or the game-plan, some new receivers show up and Watkins stays off of IR, then the Offense can be a little more consistent. Hell, we've got the Number 1 Rushing Attack!!!!!

I know TT makes some horrible throws, but at least they sail over the receiver's hands and not into the hands of defenders. He needs to improve a lot, no argument there!

    Go Bills!!!!!

Reggie Bush reverse might have been the worse call of the entire season.

  14. I was a big fan of the Rex Ryan hire. As many have stated in this thread, he's such a likable personality. Loved the emotion and bravado he brought to the HC position. Unfortunately, his brand of defense hasn't worked here. Our offense, while ugly at times, isn't the problem. They are scoring even while they haven't been any where near 100% healthy. The defense has let us all down. Bottom line, Rex took the 4th ranked D, added more talent, and made them much worse. Run defense is a absolute joke.

Unfortunately, (because Rex isn't going to give up control of the D) he should probably go. The rest of the Defensive coaching staff is a given.

  15. I have to say that I have climbed down from the height of my anger a couple weeks back. I still think this franchise should break from the past as drastically as the Sabers did, but only when they are prepared to do so thoroughly. Personally I'd like anyone over 2-3 years with the org to go and start a new era (no pun intended). However, in the world of reality staying the course and giving continuity a chance, I can see me getting behind the team next year if they are able to take a low profile, workman like, and have Rex keep his mouth shut during the off season- while they get healthy. However, to have a playoff shot, they will need Whaley to really show his worth and have his best draft and free agency to date, without hitting the injury bug (Rex's job)... OK that is a lot to ask.

Agreed. I think that is the right call. As a fan I'm not quite ready to start a total rebuild. I also don't think there are any coaching candidates out there that can fix this. If we stay healthy and draft well, this Rex Ryan team can make the playoffs next year. Our bigger problem is TT's extension and Rex's defense has been really bad.

Keep Rex, ALynn and of course Whaley.

Tell Rex to fire Thurman and Rob, hire a Defensive Coordinator who you've had past success with (Pettine).

Give them all 3 more years.

Pick up the option on Tyrod.

Draft a #2 receiver or Kyle's replacement (DT) in the first.

    Hire new training staff.

    Playoffs 2017!!

    Imo

Not sure if you're serious or not, but I'm 100% on board with this. I think there is still a ton of talent on this team. I don't want to see it blown up just yet. I would add "draft a QB every year" to your list. We have to get deeper at WR and pray to god that Sammy's foot gets better during the off season. The big question is, can Rex and Whaley continue to work together?

  16.

Completely agree. In fact, that's how Rex should answer questions about his "future" with the team. Example below:

BN Reporter: Rex what about the reports about you being fired?

    Rex: What Reports?

BN: Sources say you're gonna be fired . . .

    Rex: Who are your sources?

    BN: Can't divulge.

Rex: My sources are in the Bills organization and they haven't told me this. So if you cannot share your resources, I have to go by mine and prepare for our next opponent. Next question.

BN: (If they keep pressing - and they will . . .)

Rex: Guys, if you cannot tell me who in this organization is telling you this, we cannot have a conversation about rumors. Next Question.

I'm not sure if I want him fired or not.

The offense is averaging something like 25.5 pts - which is very good, however the Offense is challenged when playing from behind or running a hurry-up pace.

The Defense isn't what it should be under a Defensive Guru - it's allowing 22.4 pts per game and has maddening fits of ineptitude - against the run one week, the pass another, 3rd downs, red zone - something different each week. Injuries cannot be an excuse, but losing Dareus and Kyle for 8-9 games and Aaron Williams for another 8 games weakened the Defense up the middle.

The Bills Brass has a tough decision to make on Whaley & Rex & Tyrod. Brandon is untouchable - he's not in the Football Dept - he's on the Business side and he's doing a great job of selling the mediocrity every year - he's going nowhere!

I would like Terry & Kim to bring in a consultant - someone who can objectively evaluate the football operation. Someone on the cutting edge and not a dinosaur like Polian (he was great in his day but . . .).

I feel the same way about both the leak and about Rex. If I'm Pegula, it's top priority to find out who is leaking in house business to the media. It's ridiculous. I wish Rex would handle the media just like you mentioned. Personally, I don't Rex has done that bad of a job overall. I agree his defense has been disappointing, but he's had a ton of injuries this year and who are we going to get that is any better? I think I'd like to see him get one more year.

  17. Enough about firing Rex Ryan. I'm disappointed and frustrated about this season too, but can't blame everything on Rex Ryan. Yes, penalties are a big problem. A huge problem. Probably cost us at least two wins this season. I would also argue that injuries, some historically awful officiating, and new systems also contributed to a few loses. Pegula isn't firing Rex this year, but not sure about Whaley. Personally, I think Whaley has done a decent job as a young GM for this team. I'd like to see both stay with the organization if they can work together.
