  1. With the exception of the head coach/OC win-loss record, how are the other stats junk? The other stats are what they are. Gruden was the playcaller as the head coach. It wasn't as if he had an offensive coordinator.
  2. I'm not comparing the two as head coaches. As for talent, successful coaches tend to have good talent. Gruden obviously had great defensive talent in Tampa that helped him win many of those games, just as Cameron had great defensive talent in Baltimore. Cam also had a starting quarterback in those 11 years that averaged less than three years of experience as a starter. Again, my point wasn't to compare those two coaches. My point is fans following these searches shouldn't get too worked up over a hire based on how a coach is perceived or based on pure stats, especially when a coordinator is elevated to a head coaching position.
  3. I don't think it's ridiculous at all. I think it shows that perception isn't always reality. Jon Gruden's perceived as an offensive guru and his offenses have been very average throughout his career. I also understand why if you were a GM you would clearly hire Jon Gruden as a head coach over Cam Cameron. However, there are successful coaches like Cam Cameron who because they are on the bigger stage (playoffs) more often and might now win a Super Bowl whose perception is far below their productivity. To think that Jon Gruden's been in charge of NFL offenses for 14 seasons and has only had four of those years result in an offense that finished in the top HALF of the league is stunning.
  4. I won't make everybody research it but Coach No. 1 is Jon Gruden. Coach No. 2 is Cam Cameron.
  5. These coaching searches are interesting in that nobody knows what will happen. One coach may be great with one organization and poor with another. Some guys have better reputations than their resumes warrant and the flip side is also true. I like posting resumes without names and then having people guess. Coach No. 1 14 years of either head coaching or offensive coordinator experience Total Wins as either head coach or OC: 121 in 14 seasons (8.64 wins per season) Regular season points per game: 21.02 points per game (4708 pts. in 224 games) No. 1 scoring offense: 0 Top 5 scoring offenses: 2 Top half (top 16) of NFL scoring offenses: 4 top-half of NFL scoring offenses in 16 seasons Playoff appearances: 7 in 14 seasons Playoff victories: 6 in 14 seasons Coach No. 2 11 years of either head coaching or offensive coordinator experience Total Wins as either head coach or OC: 101 in 11 seasons (9.09 wins per season) Regular season points per game: 23.74 points per game (4107 pts. in 173 games) No. 1 scoring offense: 1 Top 5 scoring offenses: 3 Top half (top 16) of NFL scoring offenses: 9 in 11 seasons Playoff appearances: 6 in 11 seasons Playoff victories: 5 in 11 seasons Hint: one coach is sought after by many teams to be their head coach; the other coach will most likely never coach another game as an NFL head coach Point 1: head coach success is part getting lucky and landing in the right situation; Point 2: not all good coordinators are necessarily made to be great head coaches
