Beane is a genius cause the pick fell in their lap..........wait?..........what?!?

There was a ton of talk trading up. Beane could have pulled the trigger, potentially giving up future 1sts or other high-value picks this year (possibly just to get the same guy), but he didn't. He managed to avoid panicking and didn't overthink the pick or trade back.

Yes, it was an obvious pick, but we got great value by not overreacting and losing assets to get him.

  2. Agreed - every time he has seen extended playing time, he has filled in admirably. I don't really count the one or two plays per game where he would come in as a 6th lineman last year.

I'm not opposed to taking a backup C on day 2 or 3 if someone we like falls to us, but there are many more pressing needs on both sides of the ball that should be addressed first.

  3. Honestly, I'm comfortable with a pure BPA approach for the first time in quite a while. WR is the only position I think we have a major need for and would be willing to make a slight reach for. Otherwise, it is mostly depth and guys to replace our older starters.

After that, in no particular order: 1-2 LB's to replace Alexander & provide depth, OG/OT with Incognito getting old, DL (primarily DT) with Kyle likely retiring or at least not being a full time starter moving forward, and a backup/future starter at RB. CB would be a smart investment I think, but McDermott has never needed to rely on premier players at that position.

As much as I would love one of the top QBs, it is not worth trading up for one with how Tyrod is looking and the coaching staff apparently being fairly high on Peterman as a developmental guy/quality backup.

  4. I think this is a major, underrated aspect of our success so far this year - halftime adjustments are phenomenal.

Pretty much every week, the first half we do well enough to stay in the game, but it is fairly close. I feel like the coaches have a great grasp on figuring out what our opponents are doing, and adjusting out gameplan to effectively counter it at the end of the game. Something we have not seen in years and years.

    Thoughts?

  5. Rather than having tons of separate posts about the free agents we all want the Bills to sign, I figured I would get us started with a megathread for interesting players.

So far, a few players that caught my eye:

Owa Odighizuwa - Former Giants DE, Former 3rd round pick. Hasn't done much in the league, but the Giants have a talented and deep front 4. Young and has some talent. On a 4 game suspension for PED use to start the year.

Ron Brooks - Serviceable Backup for us in prior years before signing with the Eagles. With decent CB depth showing up in preseason, probably not worth bringing back.

Jah Reid - Another former 3rd rounder; OT most recently with the Chiefs. I don't know much about him, but he hasn't really stuck anywhere. Might be worth grabbing as a backup LT upgrade.

Feel free to add more that you're interested in. Not many cuts yet, but I'm sure they will start coming in soon

  6. Obviously not many Cub or Boy Scouts around here. That is where you learn these things

Eagle scout here. I'd agree that Scouting taught me more about being respectful and appreciating what our military and country does for us. The flag is a representation of the Country, but I'd argue that respect does not equal standing silently and doing nothing. Unless the players are actively acting in an anti-US manner, a respectful protest is the most American thing someone can do, particularly when that protest is to stand up for the disenfranchised. Silently accepting the status quo of social injustice and economic inquality in the US is more insulting to this country that protesting against it.

So what if it is happening during the anthem? The players aren't saying that they hate the country, the military, or the flag - they are trying to call attention to the fact that the virtues we claim to uphold, the good that the flag represents, are not being shared with everyone living here. In this way, the anthem is the best time to make this protest - it really drives home the point that not everyone in the US is able to truly live the American Dream.

  7. It's all great until we whiff on 4 of our 6 early picks next year. Just wait - top two picks are Jets and 49ers, they take Darnold and Rosen. Then what? Draft a mediocre WR and CB in the first, some dud OL in the second, and trade the rest of the picks to 2019 because "that will be our year"...
