  1. He did bring Pettine from the Jets and he was not connected with him earlier on

Yes we went through this yesterday and that's what the other guy said too so I clarified by saying I'm specifically talking about Hackett and the special teams coach he brought in that the Lions were probably going to fire. 2 of the 3 coordinators were buddies. There had to be better options out there imo. It's fine, I know coaches like to bring in their own guys sometimes but by doing this it shows that Marrone would rather have people around him that he is comfortable with. He knows what he has with Nassib so he will be bringing him in too. Any talk about Barkley is a smoke screen. Nassib has been the guy all along. Whether he is the best guy for the job or not, only time will tell but I have a feeling he isn't taking him because he is the best guy available

  2. The fact that Nassib played in snow in college will make him such a better NFL QB than Barkley. Also, we have 1 December home game. Again, would not take Peyton Manning (not saying Barkley is close to him, but making a point) because he struggles in colld weather games (like 95% of QBs do)?

Sarcasm? Man you guys are really reaching and twisting what I said. I said you have to know how to play in the conditions. It's different than when the conditions are perfect. Simple as that. Sorry, it's the truth. It's tough with the wind and it's tough to even grab the ball when your hands are frozen solid. Someone living in Cali has no idea what that is all about. Barkley might end up being the greatest cold weather QB in NFL history. I'm just saying as of now he has no experience in it and it could go either way. At least Nassib has some experience and they can look at tape and see how he handles the conditions. No such scouting tape exists for Barkley so it's a gamble. Barkley's lack of arm strength might be a big issue when the conditions get rough. Something to consider

  3. Probably...the "it's just a game" mentality doesn't work for me; I am extremely passionate about it and want to see the team win very, very badly. I just refuse to ever write the team off before anything is decided, regardless of how bad they look on paper.

For all I know, they might finish 1-15, but you'll never catch me thinking that way.

I do agree that it is more than a game to our city and our community. It's woven into every fiber of our lives. I was born into it and they are a part of me. It's just a saying. I guess I mean to say that win or lose, it's just a game and we can move on, but at least we still have a team to cheer for or to doubt or whatever your preference. So I can go on with my life happy and knowing that one day things could turn around and that I can share my love of the team with my kids the same way my parents and grandparents shared it with me

  4. I'm not sure I know anyone that can separate having a good attitude in life and having a lousy attitude toward a football team...but hey, maybe you're different...

It's actually quite easy. At the end of the day it's just a game and I can go on with my life. I come here to vent so it might look worse than it is
  5. Sure man, but why talk yourself into pessimism (as you seemed to be doing) when you can just as easily take the wait-and-see approach? It doesn't cost you any more to be cautiously optimistic than it does to be pessimistic, and you'll discover it's much more fun.

Are you sure you are a Bills fan? Optimism went out the door about 15 yrs ago. I've been hurting for far too long to be optimistic about anything this organization does. It's much easier to be pessimistic because then there's an opportunity to be pleasantly surprised one day. It hasn't happened yet but hopefully one day before I die. Otherwise it's just business as usual and I've been right more than I've been wrong about this team for many years. I just speak the truth and I know that is hard for some more optimistic people to accept but until I'm proven wrong then I'll probably continue to think this way. As you said, we'll see. But until then I'll remain a sceptic
  6. Remember, no matter what happens, it's important to react immediately, since tomorrow night will show us everything we need to know to determine whether or not the new regime will be successful.

Or maybe, just maybe, you can wait and see what happens on the field 5 months from now.

There wouldn't be much to talk about around here during the offseason unless we interject with some of our own thoughts and opinions every once in a while
  7. Do you actually believe a guy getting his "dream job" and first shot at an NFL head coaching gig will risk that position because he's "loyal" to the QB he coached in college? Come on, man, don't you see what a ridiculous statement that is?

Marrone has already gone on record saying he's going to bring in people that he knows and trusts and buy into his system. If they get Nassib I just don't believe they are doing so because he is the best guy. I think it has more to do with comfort and loyalty.

Ps, my fiancé is making me go to a bday dinner for her mom tomorrow night. Of all the nights FML! Need to DVR it, I can't believe it. I'll have to hold my pessimistic posts until late tomorrow night. Or maybe they will do the right thing and get a starter instead. We'll see. I want to believe in this new regime but I don't trust what's been happening so far and I certainly don't trust Buddy

  8. So please go on record and say who your prefered qb is. All of this Marrone/Nassib bashing will continue by some (not saying you) when quietly their pick will have bombed and be out of the league. Please go on record and state who will be the best qb out of this draft - the one the Bills should draft.

I don't like any of these guys at #8. All of them are projects. Even the 2nd round is reaching for a backup QB. But dumb choices by the front office for many years have put us in this situation and unfortunately there is nobody to get. So no, I can't commit to any of these guys because I think they are all equally mediocre. If they get Nassib at #8 it needs to be because this is the guy that is going to take our team to the playoffs and he better be the starter day 1 otherwise what's the point? We could have drafted someone else who could be an immediate starter that would make our team better (LB, WR, OL). You don't spend a top 10 pick on a backup and if they do I have to question their motives (Marrone/Hackett campaigning for their guy)
  9. My bad. I apologize. I thought when you said buddies you meant the guys he coached with before from Syracuse. I apologize.

Still, Marrone knew Crossman from 20 years ago when they played one season in the World League together and coached one season at the Coast Guard Academy. That hardly reeks of what is (inaccurately) called nepotism in this league.

Name me all the great ST coaches out there he should have hired, and please do not say he should have kept DeHaven, who was terrible in the last couple years.

So you truly believe that a guy is going to risk his professional career, the one chance he may have at the top of his profession, because he wants to throw a bone to his buddy Ryan Nassib?

    That's hysterical.

And I mean that in the most psychotic form of the word.

I really hope I'm not back in here at around 9pm tomorrow night saying I told you so. In my psychotic opinion, all signs point to Nassib being their guy. I really want to believe he is the guy they would have gone for without the influence of Marrone and Hacket but I haven't seen anything that makes me think wow Nassib is the best QB we can get. I think Marrone is being loyal to a fault

  10. You said Syracuse guys. Crossman is not a Syracuse guy. He's also been a good ST coach in the NFL. He may not be your first choice but he's HIGHLY qualified and has had some excellent results. It would be unusual and disconcerting if he hired all kinds of guys he didn't know.

What are you talking about? Please quote me where I said anything about Syracuse. Don't put words in my mouth to make your point. And Detroit was terrible at special teams, the guy was probably going to get fired if he didn't leave on his own. A lot of people were calling for him to be fired last year. Marrone was throwing a bone to his buddy. It is what it is, I know other coaches do it too. I'm just stating the obvious. Anyone paying attention can see that Marrone is going out of his way to help his buddies rather than get the best person available. It is pretty clear he is going to do the same with Nassib. There's no way a project QB should be the first pick of any team let alone one with so many pressing needs. Unless they expect Nassib to come in here next year and make us instantly better then there's no way we should consider him with our first pick...unless of course the coach is once again just looking out for one of his own

  11.

The most important hire was not a Syracuse guy, it was Pettine. Two of the three coordinator jobs were not Cuse guys. Of the main position coaches, WR and OL were not, RB was. DL and LB were not, DB was. It was about one third. That is not unusual or more than any new coach would hire as far as bringing in guys he worked with.

I'm talking specifically about OC and Special teams. Two highly questionable hires. They were brought in because they were his buddies and not because they were the best available for the job. You will see when they take Nassib at 8, a player that is without a doubt a project and not an immediate starter, that Marrone is more about loyalty than doing what's best for the team

  12. Let's get serious everyone. The Bills are taking Nassib. It's a done deal. It was a done deal when they brought in Marrone. Since becoming the coach, all he has done is bring in all of his buddies as assistants. He seems to be loyal to a fault. Is he really getting the best guys or just handing out jobs to his loyal followers? All signs point to Nassib so all of this speculation is pointless imo. As goes Nassib, so goes Marrone. So I hope he's right about hitching his wagon to this guy or we will have a new coach in 2016

  13.

I don't know how one can get Barkley or Manuel in the 2nd round...There is Kansas City, Jacksonville, Oakland, Philadelphia, Arizona, Jets and Cleveland in front of us in the 2nd round (We only pick 41st)...If one of those teams jump and get Geno or Nassib, I don't know how Barkley will get past any of those teams (especially KC which will run a WC offense)

I didn't say 2nd round. I said trade down to the middle or end of the 1st

  14. And the same will hold true to whomever we draft. That player will say "I'm happy to be a Buffalo Bill, it's where I wanted to be". Now... how much of that is true?

As per Ruben Brown this morning on 103.3, guys are just happy to be drafted by any team and get some $$$. They can care less what team. If they play good then they can sign with whoever they want after that. I don't think anyone we get will be thinking oh crap Buffalo drafted me. At least I hope not

And think of what it'll be the night of the draft!!

Lol oops, I jumped the gun again! I just wish it was tomorrow. The suspense is killing me!!!

  15. The same holds true for the posters. We'll get:

"This is a great pick. Love this pick!"

    or

"This is the worst pick in the history of the franchise. This guy has bust written all over him"

Lol very true. This place is going to be a mad house tomorrow night. People praising their pick and guys like me who are pesimistic about everything the front office does after years of losing. Can't wait

  16. They signed Kolb as an insurance policy, just like they traded tavaris for insurance policy. They didn't sign kolb to be a long term answer, at least I hope they didn't. and it has become obvious they want to trade down, and are going to make a play to trade down, but that is easier said than done. The draft has to play out the right way, the right players need to fall to us, and the right teams have to want those players bad enough to be willing to give up the right stuff that would be worth it. It isn't like they can decide now they they are going to trade down no matter what. For all they know, when their pick comes up, there isn't a single team even considering trading up at that point or they already traded with someone ahead of us.

saying "just trade down" makes it sound like a piece of cake, and it isn't

Granted, things need to fall in place and you have to have suitors. But I say TRADE DOWN (assuming we have the opportunity) because I know Nix's history of "let's just take the best player available" and you can see where that has gotten us
