  1. Very cool

@jchenelly: The 3 #Bills Pro Bowlers chipped in to bring Jerry Hughes with them to Phoenix for the all-star festivities. The Dline has lot of chemistry.

As the offers get higher and higher that's money out of Dareus' pockets basically and that's his best friend on the team. I understand getting the best offer but you can't expect the Bills to match the cheeseball offers from teams like Jacksonville who are desperate for someone and will pay anything. We have other guys we have to pay too and if they want to stick together then concessions will need to be made
  2. Any competent (keyword) player with could play in Hughes spot and probably get at least 5-7 sacks. That's a byproduct of playing on a line with the 2 Williams and Dareus. Do I think Hughes production in Buffalo is a complete product of playing with them? Absolutely not, he's talented in his own right. But you could likely find many other players to fill his role and still get enough production for the defense to succeed at a cheaper rate

we thought the same thing about Mark Anderson and that didn't happen
  3. Well, that is Mehta's take. That's likely written from the JESTS perspective. Why would Revis want to sign with them for the same money that NewenGland* would offer? Moonlight trips down memory lane in a horse drawn carriage around Central Park? I don't think so. I mean, while we do owe Mehta a hat tip for blowing Maroon out of the NYJ's HC water, but it seems to me that he's looking as only a small corner of the poker table.

Same could be said about Buffalo. Revis lives in NYC, he would go there or NE before he comes here.
  4. No guarantee Murray wants to come here regardless of the money offered. It is a nice scenario but if Murray says no we are without a top RB

They didn't even wait to find out. What was the rush? Eagles would have done the same deal on Tuesday either way. Could have wined and dined Murray this weekend and tried to close the deal before he left like what we did with Mario. I'm going to be depressed when Murray gets a $6 mil contract and then leads the league in rushing again

And I'll be doubly depressed when Kiko makes the Pro Bowl 2-3 times in the next 5 yrs

  5. For those that like this trade:

Who do you think is better? McCoy or Demarco Murray

DM is younger, led the NFL in rushing with 500 yards more than the next guy, and is the kind of workhorse RB for a ground and pound system. He can run the ball 30 times a game (he averaged 28 and McCoy averaged 19). And the Cowboys are only going to offer him $6 mil per season. McCoy is set to make $10.5 mil this year. Why wouldn't we offer Murray 8 and keep Kiko or use him as trade bait for someone else? We could have had the top RB in the league + Kiko for cheaper than McCoy alone. No wonder the Eagles were happy to give up that salary. Nobody pays this much for RB's anymore and after the Vikings rework Adrian Peterson's contract we are going to have the most expensive RB in the entire NFL. Not to mention he is threatening to hold out unless we sweeten the deal. He will be good but there were better value options to get a RB

  6. Bunch of people on Twitter saying Vernon Davis just arrived at the B-Lo airport. I'm not going to link them because they aren't really authoritative.

Just thought I'd mention it because airport rumors are the best.

We need someone camping out there. These rumors are going to drive me crazy this weekend!

I'm going to say this one is BS though because he's still under contract with the 49ers

  7.

    Okay, cool.

But still, its still a one-sided increase in the likelihood that we keep him. Unless it increases the likelihood of the Tag. Or unless Hughes told them "if you offer me X, I will stay for sure."

Like any negotiation it was probably "we will sign now for X" and the Bills said "that's too much how about X?"

I'm sure this money they aren't going to give to Harris can go towards getting closer to Hughes' dollar amount. His agents probably have an idea of what he might get in the market and the Bills have an idea of what he is worth to them and they just need to meet in the middle. And I'm hoping they do it before the other team's can make an offer on Tuesday because you know there is always that 1 stupid desperate team that will overpay and we don't want to have to compete with that.

When PFT and other sources make comments like this, I am never sure if they are just connecting the dots (the same dots that said Harris was pretty much a done deal for Buffalo, because of his Rex connection), or if they really know something. Starting to think it is the former rather than the latter. If the Bills have made their best order, based on their own standards of his dollar worth to the team, why would they just decide to pay him more all of the sudden, just because another guy at the same position decides to stay with his team

It's like any budget. You only have so much money you are going to put towards something. If you don't spend on the one thing then you have more money for the other thing.

  8.

Does this really increase the chance that the Bills keep him?

Or does it really just increase Hughes' leverage, and suggest that the Bills will now up the price too much, if necessary.

Because unless Hughes was planning to go to the Jets after Harris left, I dont see how Hughes would think going back to Buffalo is now more likely. Or, maybe it increases the likelihood that Buffalo TAGS Hughes.

they don't play the same position. Hughes is a DE/Pass rushing LB and Harris is a MLB. because they didn't spend money to get Harris now the Bills have the money to give Hughes a little more

  9. Helping Jerry out a bit here...

    Pros:

    1) Get to work with one of the greatest Defensive minds of this generation. A guy who puts players in a position to excel.

    2) Comfort level of playing on the same line with 3 all pros

    3) A team and owner committed to winning - now have a superstar RB and a serviceable QB

    4) Much greater possibility of playing out the entire contract you sign -- including any back end loaded salary years

    5) Coach you hated and who was not even aware your coordinator was holding you out of a game is gone

    Cons:

    1) Less guaranteed money and salary-- by probably 10-15%

    2) Agent will be pissed I went for less cash if I sign with the Bills

    3) Hot girlfriend will be pissed I want for less cash if I sign with the Bills

    getting married next month
