  1. http://profootballta...back-on-friday/

At a time when quarterback Geno Smith has faced harsh criticism regarding his ability to handle adversity,Smith isn’t handling adversity well.

Specifically, the game that is the NFL draft isn’t going the way he expected, so Smith plans to take his bat and ball and go home.

Smith told ESPN’s Suzy Kolber after Thursday night’s opening round that he won’t be backon Friday for rounds two and three.

If Smith doesn’t return, he’ll be confirming in the minds of many that he can’t show grit and resolve under pressure. That he’ll sink his head and slump his shoulders when the team is 14 points behind in the third quarter. That he’ll pout if he’s not the starter or if he gets benched. That he’ll complain about the use of too many running plays when he prefers to air it out.

At a time when multiple other quarterbacks remain on the board, Smith needs to stand tall in the face of disappointment and show up for Friday’s festivities. Only 32 players have been picked, including only one quarterback. And if Smith thinks he has it bad, at least Smith didn’t have to experience his college coach Dana Holgorsen take an NFL head-coaching job (Marrone-Nassib), trade down from No. 8 to No. 16, and then select E.J. Manuel.

Couldn't agree more. My friends and I touched on this during one of the shots of him hanging his head. I told them I hope he's texting someone cause if he's just moping he's in trouble. He needed to look up and show the camera a cocky smile, one of those "I'll pay all the teams that passed me over back" looks.

Having said that I can only imagine how hard it would be to be in his situation, getting your confidence hit with each selection over and over again. But then again, no one said being a NFL QB was an easy job either.

  2. I would love the W/ Dansby scenario but if signed Dansby and got Ertz at 41 I wouldn't hate adding Minter at 46 and then grabbing one of the WR's listed above in the 3rd. We could improve the LB depth nicely (which I feel we need) and create some good competition at what was a weakness before the draft while we bolster special teams as well.

  3. The Bills will be trading back to the mid teens, (the Rams), who want Tavon Austin and are forced ahead of the Jets. We will pick up the 16th, their second this year and third next year...and select E.J. Manual...so sayeth the hair.

    :worthy:

Question: Most hated picked in recent Bills history? Answer: Jairus Byrd. Description: This board and other Bills sites almost imploded with immediate hatred, simply for the fact that he was listed as a CB. Translation: Don't jump to conclusions; We know nothing.

    Here's to draft day!

I can't say I agree with it being the most hated, maybe not the most popular but I would think the Maybin pick had a stronger negative reaction and was far more universal as well.

  4. of course it does. They could easily trade either or both their 1st rounds for probably a 2nd this year and 1st next year. Or he'll, if the GM is pretty sure that Rex will be gone unless he has a magical season, he could package either pick this year for a 1st, 2nd, 3rd next year easily. Imagine if they did that with both picks and they end up with 9 picks in the first 3 rounds next year. Could move anywhere they want for whatever player they want. Or they could just rebuild the entire team in 1 draft.

And with that kind of firepower come draft day, they could probably coax just about any coach in or out of the league to come to them with the ability to completely retool however they want.

Hopefully they screw the pooch and use the picks this year where and gamble on high potential players that don't pay off :w00t:

  5. Another angle to this that I worry a bit about (more of a long term thing), is does this give the jets ammo to make a move for a trade down this year and then move up in the 2014 draft to secure a franchise guy for the new Coach presuming the Jets dump Rex which a lot of us see as highly possible.

  6. Couldn't Wanny have purged those players as well? If he believed he could win with the players that constituted our defense last year would that fall on him or is that only on the shoulders of the people above him? I always assumed that he had a say in the personal we fielded on D last year (as in pursuing FA's and cutting players, Mario for example).

Having asked that question, I think it was a bit of both.

Also, if players saw that others weren't playing to their ability due to lack of effort couldn't he see that too? I don't recall any players getting benched for those type of things but I may just not be recalling it or it may have not been that obvious at the time.

And, if Pettine does succeed this year could a case be made that the talent was misused more than anything else? Assuming no major additions are keys to success this year.

  7. Haven't see this touched on yet.

So I'm curious, how do you usually spend the draft?

Me? I'm headed back to Buffalo for the first round to hit up a Wild Wings with a bunch of my fellow Bills fans. Draft night is always fun (cept for the year we took Maybin :censored: .) It's a night where we all drink the kool-aid till we can't see straight . Well, the beer helps with that one a bit :flirt: .

I usually watch the 2nd- 3rd round on TV and keep a more casual eye on things for the rest. All while watching the draft threads on TBD of course!

  8. Nice work on the graphic!

I would put Dareus as minimal right now. I think with better coaching from Pettine and just a locker room that calls for more accountability (hoping) that we'll see a better year from him. I think between Sheppard and Bradham at least one will surprise us pleasantly and average them out to high.

This of course is based on the 4-3 look. Regarding Dareus, I would still be confident of his play in the 3-4. Not sure what to make of Shep and Bradham in the 3-4 yet.

If he gets moved I'd like to see what comes from A.Williams at safety as well so between him and Searcy & Scott (if he's back there?) I think our need there is probably moderate to minimal. Gotta let the young guys get some reps :)
