  1. D F will be a lot more effective with a decent pass rush. We need depth, FA dont want to come here unless way over paid, and unfortunately is one of the best 3 CB we have(not saying much). Drafting a young guy is no guarantee. We at least know what we have with D F.

Yes we DO know what we have in Florence. A guaranteed pass interference/holding/illegal contact call every game.

  2. So now that its looking like Terrence McGee will be in a Bills uniform next season, i think a lot of attention will be turned to Drayton Florence. He is making $5 million in 2012 and $6 million in 2013. By cutting him the Bills could save approximately $3.5 million against the cap next year.

There are both pros and cons on cutting Florence. The Bills could definitely use the depth in the secondary, especially considering McGee hasnt played much the last two seasons. On the other hand, if the Bills plan to make a big move in free agency it wouldnt hurt to free up some cap room.

Cutting McKelvin is not likely because it would cost as much to cut him as it would to keep him.

So the question is, would you cut Florence and save the money or keep him.

I've said this on another thread but I'll say it a different way this time around. I say make a bold move by keeping Florence and then trade both him and McKelvin in a package deal for a 4th round draft choice. If there's a team out there looking to draft a CB in the later rounds why wouldn't they want Florence and a former 1st rounder? Then with that draft choice we pick up we use it on a young CB.

Then in free agency we can pick up a mid tier CB for depth.

When the NFL draft comes around I say we go :

    1st round - DE/LB

    2nd round - DE/LB

    3rd round - CB

4th round - CB (from Florence McKelvin trade)

    4th round - TE/T/WR

4th round - TE/T/WR (Evans trade to Baltimore)

    5th round - TE/T/WR

5th round - LB/DE (Lynch trade to Seattle)

    6th round - LB/DE

7th round - WR (pray to find another Stevie)

Our CB's will then be Williams/McGee (starters), Rogers/Mid Tier CB from FA/Rookie/Rookie (backups).

  3. Aren't w way under the cap anyway? How can we not be?

Yes we're under the cap but we're also shopping for cornerbacks. Signing McGee to a restructured deal means the FO wants McGee to be a part of the team. We can still go after a CB if that's what you're asking.

  4. Either way I think It's a bright side of my day to hear 24 will be back. He's one of the few originals on the team and just seeing him on the field makes me feel comfortable to go up against any (yes I said it) any WR. Not saying he's Revis or anything but he can sure play CB when he's healthy. Doesn't get beat like McKelvin and doesn't grab and pout like Florence.

Seems like a good move by both McGee and the Bills. If he is healthy and plays, he gets what he would have got. If he is not healthy and cannot play, he doesn't. Under the old contract he was likely a cut, so both sides probably view this as being fair. If this is truly what happened, I like it a lot. As most teams keep 5-6 CBs and need to play most of them during the season, we can go into the FA period and draft with Williams, Florence, McKelvin, McGee and Rogers as the top five, and then if we find a solid veteran or rookie in the 3-5 rounds, take him.

To me, we shouldn't spend one penny on a CB until we fix the pass rush. You don't even know if a CB is any good without one.

I personally would give Florence AND McKelvin both to a team who needs depth in kick returns and CB for a 4th rounder. I'll even take a 5th if that's their final offer. With that pick I'll flip a coin on any CB that's on the board in the draft and I'll bet you that pick would work out better than both those guys.

McKelvin's final straw with me was last year.

I can now say he sucks.

Florence grabs just as much as Revis does but at least Revis hides it well and doesn't have to reach too far to grab cuz he stays with the receiver like a shadow.

  5. Sounds like same money.

    Joe Buscaglia @JoeB_WGR

According to a source, new deal gives the Bills security if 24 isn't healthy, but allows him to make the original money if healthy & playing

I'm fine with the same money deal because a healthy and playing McGee is worth it and if he gets injured then he doesn't get paid the full contract. Works for both sides.

  6. Uh oh... This is a very unexpected move. I can't say I'm upset at all because we're a bit short on CB's and the keyword being "restructured" means less money given. McGee knew he didn't have a shot at making good money on another team so I'm glad players know their own worth once in awhile.

Buddy definitely is playing chess when we thought he was playing checkers. Everybody had McGee out the door in posts. Buddy's far from a checkmate let alone a check, but it was a good first move IMO.

  7. All I know is that there's a die-hard 49ers fan in my office and he was thanking the Bills for letting SF sign Whitner. He's as die-hard about the team as we are about the Bills and he loved the pickup at the time, and still loves it today.

Tell him lunch is on him then.

Interesting when Kyle Williams is named to the pro bowl as an alternate, he is great but when the same happens to Donte its time for us to be technical about it. Lets face it Donte is a good player but he is no Ed Reed. I agree that he is a "pro bowler" as opposed to an "all pro" but the way he became a pro bowler shouldn't be questioned. I think the fact that ex Bills players are playing better for other teams than they were with Buffalo can be an indictment of the coaching staff. I'm not a Whitner hater as some are, he was the best hitter we had on defense and a solid safety. Now that he has solid LB's in front of him allows him to play at a higher level. I am glad for his success...at the same time I love the safeties we have now. Let's not be angry that former Bills are in situations where they can experience winning, something they never experienced with the Bills.

I actually like the way McGee hits better than Donte. McGee hits like the batman cartoons. BAM!! POW!!! POOM!!!! @#!?*%$@#

  8. I have seen your emotional opinion on this subject before, you love Donte. You are the one that needs to get over it... You are delusional if you think Donte is really an all-pro caliber player, or that there are many Bills fans that want him back.

Donte IS an ass, he is a below average SS with above average hype and money, on an above average team. If you can't handle other's opinions, don't read their posts.

I concur. Donte isn't all that great. The only thing I liked about him was that he was born in July and that he's a Cancer sign like me, to only find out that although he IS born in July he was born on the 24th which makes him a Leo and a relief off my shoulders for defending a guy like him when he would act retarded. I kept saying to myself "hey self, why is this dumbass acting like that? It's so not the Cancer in him." Now it all makes sense.

  9. If you want an elite pass rusher on the downward side of his career why not make a play for John Abraham?

He wont cost you any picks and you could probably sign him to a 2-3 year deal at a cheaper price then Osi.

Abraham is 34. But had same amount of sack last year as Osi at 9.5.

Atlanta has two many guys up for FA and looks like he will surely hit the market. He could step in immediatley and upgrade the pass rush. Bills could then go for rush end in rounds 2-3 and spend first pick on another area of need. LB, OL, or WR depending on which way they go w the rest of FA.

By downward side do you mean any year now he will retire?

I see most of the Giants games here in NYC, Osi is a very disruptive force in the pass rush. It goes way beyond sacks. He is not on the downside of his career he has 5 years at an elite level left. The only thing you can knock him for is that he's a one way player....not good against the run. The team that trades for him has to sign him as he becomes a FA after next season. The team that gets him, I believe, needs to be close to a championship enough to 1) trade the picks and 2)pay the increas he's going to be looking for. He's not a respected leader either, something the bills could use from a 2x champ and top player. I just don't think he's a fit for the Bills...I would rather go all the way for Mario.

Dave Tollefson is the DE on the Giants that the Bills should be targeting for DE. No joke, the guy is solid, smart productive and would come cheap.

I live in nyc also and one of my real close friends is a giants fan and we usually watch the games together and he loves Osi. The only reason why he didn't miss him when he got injured is because they have an abundance of good defensive ends. As far as Osi not being a respected leader? You couldn't be more wrong. He has attitude yes. But maybe that's what we need on the team. Someone with emotion. Enough with the nice guy attitude. This is football.

  10. I sat 2 rows off the field in the jumbotron endzone for the Dolphins game last year and had a blast. Everyone was standing the whole game, the fans were loud and pretty crazy (except of course towards the end... :wallbash:). Fun time if you like that sort of thing. Looking back at the screen wasn't too bad, but even from nearly on the field you had to look straight up it seemed. So I wouldn't recommend it to everyone because I can understand how it could be annoying to be looking up and turning around all the time, but I didn't mind it all that much. Being so close to the field made it worth it for me.

Yea that's why if I ever did buy endzone tickets it would have to be opposite the jumbotron...

  11. I would give up our 3rd and our 4th rounder we got for Evans for Osi. If they also want a player I wouldn't mind giving them Jones or McKelvin.

That would leave us with 7 draft picks and an addition of Osi.

    Draft day.

1st pick - DE or LB

2nd pick - Whichever position of the choices from the first pick we didn't get.

    3rd pick (4th round) - Tackle.

    4th pick (5th round) - CB.

    5th pick (5th round) - CB.

    6th pick (6th round) - T/WR/LB/TE take your pick.

    7th pick (7th round) - T/WR/LB/TE take your pick.

    Free Agency.

Good thing free agency comes before the draft. We need to sign Stevie. If not then Buddy needs to pull the trigger on a #1 receiver and also get a mid tier WR to compliment being the #2.

Depending on how free agency plays out I definitely wouldn't mind Osi instead of the much more expensive Mario Williams.

  12. For your sake, I hope it was "allegedly spitting" as I can't think of anything lower in my book.......

It was... I was so angry that when I was yelling in his face spit was coming out while I was talking and then the guy said I spit on him... Hence the alleged part...

Best they had on offer. That or 136 but they were lower down (row 10). I wanted seats in the 130s from Row 20 or back.

Considered the Rockpile or endzones but in the end I've waited so long to get tickets why not pay the premium and get the good seats right off the bat.

I guess in future seniority will allow me to move closer to the 50.

You're fine at 136 believe me... That puts you around the 20-30 yard line... The closer you get to the 50 the more fans have sticks up their assez... Team members families and such also get seats around midfield... The better fans IMO sit farther away from the 50 but 136 or 135 is where I usually buy my tickets also... I've never watched a game from the endzone... It seems like the crowd is CRAZY there but if I ever did it would have to be on the opposite end of the big screen... I can't believe we only have one tv at the Ralph...

  13. I'm a happy man today.

The Bills called to confirm that ticket prices wouldn't change for Season Tickets and they could go ahead and assign me seats.

I will be sitting in 131, Row 24, Seats 1&2 for the forthcoming NFL Season. To those of you sat around me - you will know me in three ways. 1) I have a Union Jack/Bills Logo Flag. Unmistakeable. 2) For every first down I will shout loudly "Move the Chains. Mooove the Chains. ISAIDMOVETHECHAINS!" 3) If I have company, I will while the Bills are on D periodically shout "Hit Em Harrrrrd" and my friends will reply equally loudly "Take the Ball".

This concludes a 20 year journey to this point for me that started in Wembley Stadium in July 1992 and has seen me travel over 50,000 miles to see just 14 games (3 in pre-season) with an overall Win-Loss score of 4-10 (3-7 Regular Season). I have relocated my family to Waterloo, Ontario in part so I can own season tickets for at least one year of my life.

I've mad great friends through this place and through the Bills and I look forward to seeing you more often for the 2012 season.

Here's hoping the Bills can find a way to win some more for me too...!

    My home games so far:

Wins: Philadelphia 92*, Carolina 01, Miami 02, New England 11

    Losses: Denver 98, New England 05, San Diego 06, Atlanta 07*, Tennessee 07*, San Francisco 08, Houston 09, Tennessee 11, Miami 11

    (* denotes preseason)

Question - Did you choose 131 or did they offer it?

  14. You can also find me in various seats throughout the year as I buy single game tickets. Those who have sat around me can hear me scream without question and I am most famous for getting kicked out of Ralph Wilson stadium for allegedly spitting on a fellow Bills fan's face for telling me to sit down cuz he couldn't see. Meanwhile it was 3rd down defense so how bout you stand UP? Like I said, allegedly.

  15. He was so effective in those first 5 games the Bills defense yielded only 2,109 yards or 422 per game. If anything, the defense improved from Game 6-16 when they allowed 348.1 yards per game and he was again on the sidelines.

This concept that Merriman helped in ways not quantifiable is really reaching. For the money he was paid, he didn't do anything and his contract prevents the team from spending elsewhere.

As far as the money he got paid you're right. He didn't earn it. But to hand out statistics like you and to say the defense got better from game 6 to 16 is insane. What's stats compared to wins and losses. Merriman contributed to a couple of wins even though there are no stats to prove it. All you can do is watch film and see he was being doubled in week 1 and 2 then after week three he started losing a pep in his step.

There are also other ways a player can contribute. By being a leader. The way he was huddling the team up before games and getting them ready was something I haven't seen in the Bills in a very long time. Ray Lewis can have his teammates play better even when he's not on the field. You always need leadership. Especially amongst your peers. It's one thing to prove to a coach you're worth being on the field but its another thing to show your teammates that you're worth sharing the same field.

All in all? Whether you like merriman or not, this is his last year anyway. I for one hope he doesn't get cut and stays healthy and shows all the non believers what he's made of. Worst case scenario? He gets injured for the season and the Merriman talks will be put to rest next year.

  16. I say let go of Florence ( I really do believe he's the disease of the team and I hate his play ). Let go of McGee. Keep McKelvin ( just in case the corners need to get blaimed for poor play he's at least experienced in that dept. ) Start Williams. Start Rogers ( Chan don't give me no crap about we didn't want to start him at corner AND have him returning kicks ). Then draft a corner and pick up two free agent corners all who should give Rogers competition and maybe beat him to a starting role. Oh and let Reggie walk also unless he can come back for a decent price.
