Talk about going back into TBD's past!

Edit: I did a little research. It appears this fight song was written by Marv Levy. So, it can't be the one referenced to in the article. I didn't know Marv Levy wrote a fight song, so that's another interesting tidbit of Bills history.

Very interesting. Do you have a clearer image in which the paper can be read? Looks like 1.0 Megapixels was the thing "several summers ago."

Sorry, I could find a good way to upload the picture clearly haha

The article says, "It was like music to the ears of approximately 600 listeners at the Buffalo Athletic Club's Sports Dinner Monday night when Ralph C. Wilson Jr. crouched over the mike and said:

'They say the pro American football league hasn't even a football: Well I've got news for them: The Buffalo Bills have one.'

Timing his remarks and the handling of a box with the precision of a quarterback on a handoff to a halfback, Wilson pulled a football out of the gift wrapped package and held it up in the air. On the ball, in white painted letters were the words: Buffalo Bills 1960. The dining room rang with cheers of the crowd. Almost ten years to the day that the old Buffalo Bills succumbed along with the All-American Conference, the name "Bills" is revived again."

I was born shortly after the Bills first game back in the fall of 1960.  I believe the song that is referred to is the song that was played when Buffalo had a team in the old AAFC.  Here's a wiki on it:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_Bills_(AAFC)

The article refers to the Buffalo Bills which played in the AAFC. So, that is definitely the correct time period.

  3. Sorry about the vague title. I don't really know how to title this question. It's rather specific, and something I haven't been able to answer for years. Also, I haven't posted here in a long time, so if my post isn't following the rules, or needs to be moved, by all means do so.

Several summers ago I interned for the Buffalo Bills, writing for the team. In the press room, located to the side of where the writers sit, are several artifacts. Below I have attached a link to the picture of one of the exhibits. The artifact is an old typewriter with an article from the Buffalo Evening News, by Dick Sedler, typed out. The article is dated September 1, 1959. It tells of Ralph Wilson announcing to a crowd of Buffalonians that he was starting an NFL franchise in the city. Below the article is paragraph which states, "Once more the strains of the stirring Buffalo fight song, one of the finest in the realm of football, will resound in the caverns of the Civic Stadium, in parties and wherever else Bills fans gather."

I was hoping an old poster, or a Buffalo sports buff, could remember the "fight song" to which the article is referring. If nothing else, I hope you all find the picture - and snapshot into Bills history - interesting.

  4. Hey guys, I know everyone hates when someone tries to push their blog or something of that nature. However, I'm a high school student and an aspiring writer. I began this blog primarily to get feedback on my writing, and to improve at the skill. I am by no means pushing the blog to get traffic through my site; frankly it doesn't matter to me. I understand all of you are rather knowledgeable Bills fans and I thought the best place to get feedback on writing would be this site. Anyone who has a problem with this, please don't post in this thread, I'm only looking for feedback so I may grow as a writer. Please visit the site www.buffalocubreporter.yolasite.com. Thanks for the help.

  5. If there is one QB I really don't want the Bills to draft, it's Nassib. I want a strong armed quarterback, that can play in the terrible weather in Buffalo. When I watched Nassib, and I could think was this guy is going to be the next Fitz. However, I do agree to go defense in the first round, because there is no QB worth the 8th overall pick.

  6. woe is me..............let's hold back the tearfest until FA and the draft occurs. Bowe and Geno Smith and this whole thing has a better feel IMO.

i'll cry with ya if you we don't draft a qb and fitz wins the "competition"

Agreed. We can't be upset about something that hasn't happened yet. I'll be upset if we don't do anything this offseason, but who knows what the future holds. We don't know how good Marrone is, we don't know if our defense was bad especially because of Wanny. Theres alot of unknow and alot of ahead of us, let's keep our heads up until our roster is set.

  7. I feel Tyler Wislon is the best option for the Bills this year. You can't base him upon his stats, he played for a terrible team. But, I've watched him and I think he has the ability to be a Big Ben type player. He has a strong arm, a good leader and is strong in the pocket. I can't think of anything bad to say about him, besides his ocassional bad accuracy, which I think can be fixed as he developes. We can't have an open competition between Jackson and Fitz, it's carzy and stupid, neither is a starter, and this would put an immidiate bad taste in my mouth by Marrone and co. The best thing to do is sign a FA QB, be it Alex Smith, I don't care, and let him battle for the starting job against our drafted QB. Hopefully the battle between Jackson and Fitz is to see who makes the roster.

  8. I'm really excited, but I think I am more nervous than anything. I mean I'm so nervous, that a couple days ago I was think about the game, and I had a laughing fit because my body couldn't cope with all the stress. But I have a right to be nervous because I am young. I have never seen the Bills good, except for 1999, but I was still very little. So now for the Bills to be "good" I can't imagine what its like because I have never seen it, I hope this season turns that all around!

  9. I think it was pointed out in that forum and ours (ad nauseum) the reason the Bills give up so few sacks is the design of the quick pass offense.

How good is the OL? It's really tough to say.

How good is our run game? It's quite good, so our o-line can't be that bad. Also, even though we have a quick hit offense, our line still deserves credit for allowing the least amout of sack in the league.

  10. I went to a game a couple years back, when the Bills played the Dolphins. I know for a fact that it wasn't a season or even home opener because it was very cold and snowing. Anyways, before the game their was a fly over and the only reason I remember the fly over is because it was a very large plane and when it dipped into the stadium, I swear to you it was eye level to me (I was in the upper deck). I don't know why their was a fly over, and I'm pretty sure I wasn't aware that their was suppose to be one before the game.

  11. How could you be concerned about QB already? They've played one game so far, and its the preseason. If they played like this against the Jets in week one, then I would start to get concerned. And just like last year they are only running certain plays to ensure that all the players are on the same page, so the coaches can really see what the player can do. EVERYBODY DON'T WORRY!
