  1. I have heard to stay away from the Columbus City Schools. Looking in the outlying areas has seem to cut down on my housing options though as I will be renting. Cannot buy until something happens with this economy unless I were to fall into a killer deal or foreclosure.

Are there any Bills bars in the area?

I honestly don't know if there are any Bills bars in the area or not. I have Sunday Ticket and don't stray far from home on Sundays.

And just ignore The Dean (everyone else does).

  2. I also need to take into account the school systems. The kids education will probably be the driving influence on my decision.

Do they sell Labbatt Blue Light in Columbus or will I have to import it like I do in Alabama?

Since I don't have kids, I can't speak to the education piece except stay away from Columbus Public. I have friends with kids in Westerville and Dublin schools and their parents are very pleased with they system.

Yes, you can Blue Light at most of the grocery stores, at least at Kroger and Giant Eagle!

  3. I drive 40 minutes each way now. would like to cut that down a bit but if it means better schools for the kids then I can do it again.

How far is westerville from the west side of Columbus?

If you're traveling during rush hour, I think you'd be looking at a minimum 40 minute commute from Westerville to the west side. Pickerington would be at least that bad. Personally, I would avoid Pickerington like the plague, simply because the traffic is horrific.

Grove City would be a good option to cut down on your commute, I always hear that taxes are horrible but I don't know how they compare to the other 'burbs, everyone complains!

Dublin and Upper Arlington are pricey but folks who live there love it.

  4. How did I not know you were in Gahanna, AiO? (Or is that a recent move? It's been a couple of years since my last trip out that way.) My friend's brother lives there, and we used to do our FFL draft at his place ...

Relatively recent, we moved there in late October 2007. Let me know if you're in the neighborhood again!

  5. Gahanna is on my list as well. I am also looking at Pickerington and Grove City. Really the only info I have so far is what my new recruiters have told me and what I have seen on greatschools.net.

What kind of commute do you find "tolerable?" That was a determining factor when we moved to Gahanna from our old place that in Columbus.

  6. Cool ... I still dream about their vanilla custard puffs.

Is that bookstore still there too? I used to hang out there alot.

The Book Loft or something like that? It was still there last time I was down that way.

And the cream puffs at Schmidt's are legendary! Great place, great food.

  7. I will have to look into that one an give it a shot if its still there...Thx

Schmidt's is still there; the area is known as German Village, it's just south of downtown.

I don't know much of Hilliard but Westerville is nice. We're in Gahanna and like it a lot. Both Westerville and Gahanna are in northeast Franklin County, Hilliard is northwest.

Feel free to PM me any specific questions, I'm happy to try to answer them.

  8. The young TBD lad Guffalo is celebrating his birthday today. :worthy: HFBD Guff!!!!!! :worthy:

Unfortunately Guff has to share his day with the much older mega bastard, Nervous Guy who is turning 49 today. Other than the fact that he has to share a lab stool with Victor I'm not sure what he has to be nervous about and frankly I don't really care. Happy birthday ya bastard. ;)

Who the hell are these guys?

Happy b-day to my dear friends (oh, and Guff and ~NG~ too)

  9. here we go...pretty soon JSP and Gavin will be making their way here, adding more moronic comments about Muffy and Biff and that kind of slanderous douchebaggery.

Glad Gavin showed up, but JSP is probably still too pissy from last night. Remember how we used to have to "talk him down" after a loss?
