  1. I can't help but wonder what exactly defines the alleged racism of a team name? Is it based solely on skin color? There aren't any lawsuits protesting the use of Vikings or Cowboys.

Its my opinion that you would name your team after a people or an animal for their admirable qualities. Hoping somehow to infuse your team with the symbol on the helmet. Not a backhanded slight against whomever you happen to have racist tendencies.

    Your thoughts?

Are you serious with this? Cowboy and Viking are not derogatory names. Why don't we make an NFL team called the Chinatown Yellowskins. Maybe we can call another team the Saratoga Whities or the Harlem Blackskins. I hate racism and prejudice and there's no room for it anywhere.

There are other ways to name Indians other than "Redskins." I love to stir the pot on these forums but comments like this is ridiculous. I don't mind the Cleveland Indians, Florida State Seminoles, or the Chicago Blackhawks. But Redskins? Really? There are other ways around this than calling them by that.

  2. Flacco - 5th round TE, Ben Patrick. http://en.wikipedia....n_the_NFL_Draft Also, a 1-AA school after transferring from Pittsburgh.

Big Ben - MAC school. I'm sure Manuel would have put up some decent #s against that competition.

Brady - 1st round tackle Jeff Backus, 1st round G Hutchinson, 1st WR David Terrell http://www.mgoblue.c.../071108aac.html

Luck - 1st round G DeCastro, 2nd round TE Fleener, 2nd round TE Ertz, 2nd round LT Martin, 4th round FB Marecic, 6th round wr Whalen, 2nd round RB Gerhardt, 7th TE Dray, 7th FB Lorig. http://www.nfl.com/d...g=0&type=school Doug Baldwin must not have been drafted as he is a former Luck wr as well.

    Brees- 2nd round T Matt Light, 5th round WR Sutherland, 5th round C Okobi, 7th round T Gorin, http://www.nfl.com/d...g=0&type=school

Ben Patrick? Give me a break. David Terrell? An NFL bust. Just because they make it to the next level doesn't mean they're weapons. Could be because these guys were a product of the QBs making them look good because the QB themselves were just good, which further proves my point.

  3. Obviously there's all kinds of exceptions but I think the OP was just pointing out that due to the lack of playmakers at FSU, we don't really know what EJ's ceiling is yet. We saw Geno put up those #'s with super stud Austin and a 3rd rounder in Bailey and Barkley with his two stud WRs and we haven't really seen what EJ can do with guys like that around him.

I still don't see the relationship. Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Flacco, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Andrew Luck are just some names that I can think of off the top of my head that probably had no weapons at all in college. Meanwhile, wasn't Pennington throwing the ball to Randy Moss, but his numbers didn't skyrocket. So regardless of who the QB was throwing the ball to, competent scouts should be able to see talent regardless.

This IMO is a bogus statement and makes no sense. If you were talking about WR, it would make more sense. Not QBs

  4. In evaluating Manuel, there have been questions about his decision making and inconsistency. However, I started thinking, is FSU that good offensively? So I did a little research.

    1) Christian Ponder went #12 and Manuel went #16. A comparison of their careers:

    http://espn.go.com/c...hristian-ponder

    http://espn.go.com/c...80849/ej-manuel

Manuel had the better career but neither had the insane #s like Geno Smith. Yet, both went in the 1st round. Which brings me to

    2) Who played around Manuel? Here's a look a drafted FSU players: http://www.seminoles...meNFLDraft.html

They haven't had a wr drafted since 2007. They've had one rb drafted (5th round this year). They had 2 2nd round OL and a 7th rounder. They haven't had a TE drafted since Lonnie Freakin' Johnson in 1994!!!

I haven't broken down every drafted QB but you will be hard pressed to find a 1st round QB that played with less talent. Even Losman had a rb and wr drafted from Tulane. Luck played with a ton of drafted guys. Same with RG3. Even Nassib had a 1st round guard, 4th round rb, and Mike Williams during his time at Cuse.

I don't how Manuel will transition to the pros but he was not on a very talented offensive team. There is little question that Bills have far and away more talent than FSU. He never had a back like Spiller. I think Marrone looked at this like college recruiting. He could get a 5 star recruit who hasn't maximized his potential or settle for a guy who might have hit their ceiling (Barkley, Nassib). And if he can make a 1 or 2 star recruit like Nassib into a NFL QB, hopefully he can turn Manuel into a franchise Qb. We can only hope.

Everything you just said means absolutely nothing when evaluating QBs in college. Who did Matt Ryan have when he was at Boston College? What about Joe Flacco? Tom Brady had some nice weapons but wasn't the most talented and didn't have the best numbers. Who was Andrew Luck throwing the ball to at Stanford?

When you're evaluating QBs you look at the QB himself and gametape. What he does under pressure. His mechanics, athletic abilities, etc. Regardless of who his targets are.

  5. Both teams trading their busts. Hughes was a big disappointment for the Colts. But, the Bills have more of a need at 34 OLB, especially if Dansby is signed, so yay.

Dont think you can ever consider a 3rd round pick to be a "bust."

I don't see an immediate contribution from him but definitely someone we can plug in every once in awhile for added depth.

  6. This defense better be ready to stop the run because I see the Patriots as becoming a more balanced offense. Ridley and Blount combination could be deadly.

This defense better step it up in their rush defense this year or we're gonna be picking in the top 10 again next year.

  7. I love the Manuel pick. I was on the Nassib bandwagon pre-draft, but after watching EJ's highlight film, and reading up on him, I feel like EJ has a higher ceiling and more potential than any of the qbs in the draft. He certainly has the most athletic ability. It will be nice to have a qb that can actually throw a 15 yard out. Not to mention the guy can flick the ball 50 yards down field with little effort and lots of accuracy.

We drafted alot of athletically gifted prospects. At this point, its up to the coaching. If Marrone was able to coach Syracuse to play to above and beyond their potential, Im really hoping he can do the same in Buffalo. We landed 3 or 4 guys who had combine best numbers, and the Darick Rogers was a complete steal. I couldnt be happier.

We finally have some nfl caliber players on our roster, lets hope our coaches can do their jobs. What a difference from the Levy/Jauron drafts with "character" guys.

    x2.

This is the thing I am most pleased with about this draft. Glad we're finally drafting players with an edge to them instead of these nice guys.

  8. Stevie seems like a good guy. He likes to have fun in games, yes, he is a good person i believe.

Stevie's experience as a 7th round pick who is now a real NFL star could be huge with some of these young WRs coming in.

I hope Stevie and Rogers get along. I think Stevie could help Rogers out a lot as a mentor for what it takes to succeed in this league. Lets hope Rogers is up for the challenge. On paper he has as much if not more raw talent then Stevie had, lets hope Rogers has the work ethic and stays away from trouble like Stevie did.

After meeting him in person and talking to him and his wife, Stevie is a stand up guy and VERY mature. People give him a bad rap for being immature on the field. The dude loves his job and wants to have fun. Off the field he's very well spoken, intelligent and an overall great guy.

He doesn't even think of himself as a celebrity or anything. When I met him he kept saying "I'm a normal guy just like you." If Rogers sticks with Stevie and listens, he'll be fine

  9. Add a lineman and a lattimore in the next two picks and we might have a track meet ready. Start moving real fast with subpackages to keep guys fresh

Do you draft the best player for this September, or the guy you think will be best long term? I vote the latter. Though a big guy with foot injuries is a concern long term

Yup. Redshirt Lattimore this year and release Freddy next year and we'll have our Thunder and Lightening for the future. Would LOVE Lattimore in the 4th. Great value IMO.

  10. Yes those are bigger needs, but Chandler isnt guaranteed to be ready Week 1. Plus Marrone has used plenty of two TE sets at Syracuse.

Also, they addressed QB! Who do you like better than Manuel in this draft?

No one. I would've stayed away from every QB in this draft and just gone with Kolb. Would've drafted a QB in next year's draft. Buddy feels the heat so I guess we HAD to pick one this year.

  11. We could've traded back a bit further probably and taken him at the end of the 1st round and gathered up more picks. This was a boneheaded pick if you ask me. This guy's not even ready to start day 1 and had other needs that could've contributed in his first year.

49ers were right there willing to trade up for Eric Reid and could've been an ideal trade partner. Drafting Manuel near the end of the 1st round wouldn't have been as bad.

NIx said in the interview posted to Buffalobills.com that they had a chance to trade down from 16 but passed on it to be sure they got EJ. No specification as to who the trade was to be with or what the bills would have received in return for the 16th pick.

That was a panic move if I ever saw one. Don't think any team would've traded back into the 1st for EJ Manuel. Just didn't see it happening.

  12. Shoulda traded back again if we were gonna take this guy. Just don't understand this team and their thinking process on drafting QBs. Completely inept. This guy better live in the film room his rookie year and eat, breathe, and sh** football. He's a 2-3 year project and is far from being ready to take over the reigns. Get ready to draft another QB in 4 years.
