Take your best shot and if you lose, okay.  This didn't feel like our best shot and that's what's frustrating

Was I upset?  No.  Disappointed?  Of course.

Totally feel the same way at the end of the game.  That drop felt so deflating...maybe in week 2 but that just can't happen in the conference finals...it felt like the beginning of the end, although we did hang around score-wise but just couldn't flip the script in the 2nd half.

KC just felt like they were a better team having a better day.  Players, coaches, red zone, all of it.  That said I think our ceiling is much higher than what we showed that game and i'm excited for the future of this team.

It was a fun year!  Winning the division and sweeping the AFCE, watching Josh arrive on the scene, knocking the dolphins out of playoff contention, nationally televised games (although I prefer Sunday 1pm game day beers any day)  and winning two playoff games!

After all these years is a shame that fans didn't get the gratification of being at the stadium to take it all in, however we still got to experience the best Bills season in recent memory...and your write-ups are a big part of the home experience.

Thanks again for the efforts this year Virg!  All the best in 2021 and I look forward to the opening week thoughts in September!

  2. Its my Mom's bday Saturday, the family was trying to organize everyone going out for dinner but I immediately kiboshed that plan and talked the wife into us hosting.

That said, we need to figure out some eats that will go with the tailgate vibes that can also pass as acceptable to serve the fam.  My brother's girls will be coming so I need to confine 6 kids under the age of 9 to the basement so we can focus on the game.

My attempt at dry January is going to take a hit on the 4th day...I have a pile of  PBR's  leftover from the holidays in the garage to finish up anyway

  3. Thank you for these write ups Virg!

I always look forward to them...even going back to the "Bill days" these have become part of my complete game day experience...thank you for keeping the tradition rolling.  Two in one week is amazing work.

Something about that game yesterday just felt special...prime time against America's team for everyone to see.  The text messages from friends started rolling in mid-3rd quarter....but the Bills fan in me just couldn't accept this was happening until the final kneel-down.  Even the wife (who humors me watching the Bills all these years simply because I do) even commented "geez...their quarterback is really good eh?" ....its been many years since we could say that and it feels great!!   It totally agree with you....feels like perhaps the biggest win in 20 years.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend down there to you and yours!

    Go Bills!

Bottom line... This front office decided the best course for Buffalo was to rebuild from the ground-up.  They didn't see a way of long-term success without a franchise quarterback.  They didn't see a way of long-term success with the bloated underachieving contracts they current had on the books.  The solution to both problems was trading away talent for draft picks.  A season like this was the unfortunate side-effect.  It just wasn't possible for us to re-stock talent as quickly as we got rid of it.  Next year is  completely different story.

This post pretty much sums things up as I see it.  Last year was McBean's first go and a "show me" year to see what they had.  They decided a full re-build was in order and literally blew up last year's team to eat dead cap and acquire draft capital.

2018 was never about making the playoffs again...this year was guaranteed pain.  The older vets they signed were supposed "good character" guys who were necessary to fill out the roster and field a team for the season.  Next year the reconstruction starts.

As mentioned above there is no guarantee the rebuild will be a slam dunk (like the sabres example) but nothing McBean has done on the tear down makes me think they will automatically blow the rebuild.

  5. In my 20's and single it was a little hole in the wall sports bar that was around back then called Dailey's Cafe.  Now in my early 40's with kids and living north of town, Bills games are for the garage on the big screen.  It gets me out of the house and a TV all to myself.  Lots of good eats and a few of the neighbors pop by and for some pints and Brady trash talk.  Sometimes we tinker with a project while the game is on, but mostly its just holding up the bar and lots of PBR.

I real am looking forward to the fall!

  6. Thanks for the entertaining read Virg!  These are truly exciting times to be a BIlls fan...and not like the Mario Williams F5 exciting times either...the anticipation for the next month or so kinda feels like we're finally arriving.

I guess we just gotta trust the process!

  7. First of all, nice work Virgil. You are doing a wonderful job and I thank you for this.

The Bills were on the road, playing on a Thursday, and taking on a team with 3 straight losses. The Jets really had their backs to the wall and the loss didn't surprise me, especially (as you say) given the 17 year history.

That said, the team bosses seem to have given the players a sane program, one that they are buying into. Before the season I predicted 4 wins and I was wrong. They are better than this and easier on the eyes than they have been in some time.

Keep up the good work and thanks again!!!

    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes thanks Virgil for continuing this time honored tradition thread (and Bill for starting it!) I look forward to reading this post game review every week...win or lose

  8. I wish Doug the best too. I suspect he will resurface as a personnel guy somewhere in the league.

Look at Doug's tenure, he came in a "hot shot" from the great Pittsburgh organization. Unfortunately he worked for the most dysfunctional FO in the NFL with Russ Brandon and Buddy Nix at the helm. Nix was no GM, he is a good Scout and that is all Buddy Nix should have ever been. Brandon was not a football guy and never will be. We also had Tom Modrak, content to work from home in Jacksonville, a knowledgeable guy but he mailed it in. Jim Overdorf's management of the cap has been dreadful.

Doug did not pick Marone, he inherited him. He did not pick Rex either.

Doug made errors, but no more than the rest of the crew. He actually performed his job the best of the entire bunch named above. Better than the Pegula's too.

I bet we see him succeed in some capacity elsewhere.

This is my take on things as well...I believe DW was a good guy and a good GM that never got a fair shake at things. Good luck in the future and I'm sure we will see him again soon in this league.

  9.

That covers breakfast... What about the game?

Three cheeses Havarti, Sharp white, and sharp yellow, sliced home-pickled jalapenos, (just a few) Sliced black olives, Homemade guacamole, ground beef with garden-variety taco seasoning, Few dollups of Breakstone's sour cream as topping.

Interesting choices...I am grading up your recommended 3 cheese combo right now watching the pre-game and will give it a go! Thanks for the tip and enjoy Superbowl Sunday!

    Cheers!
